Yeah I just don't feel like spending $80 or so for a BCM and then realizing it wasn't exactly the issue lol.

Did you check your fuses? Most likely you 'interior lights' one is out.

Okay, so I picked up a used BCM.

My problems were the following:
  • Key ring LED did not work
  • Dome Light (near middle of the roof) did not work in the AUTO position. Only the ON position.
After swapping BCM (just remove the radio, and remove the 2 10mm nuts that hold it to the dash frame), the dome light works (with my LED's) and the key ring light works as it's supposed to.

I used a 98-99 BCM with keyless as my car is a 99 with keyless. I'm pretty sure they have to match, cause 95-97 is different. Or perhaps it's just 95-96.

I also noticed that my car will unlock/lock from a greater distance. An awesome plus as I was getting tired of my lack of being able to open from 100ft+ away.

All in all, took me 10 minutes to swap and fixed my issue(s). It is not almost like day light in my car when my map or dome light are on. Beautiful.

3 10mm nuts, not 2

And like a lot of other things, the BCMs are 95/96 and 97-99:

I only had 2. I'm not lying. There is a third hole, but there was no...uh...stud if you will...for another nut. So I only had 2, and only 2 were used to keep it in place after the swap.

That's odd, normally there are 3 studs welded in. Huh

+1

this is actually the second post i've found in the past 30 min. of someone having similar issues that i've got in mine. Except mine is of the flickering skitzo type that likes to come off and on at random unexpected times when the doors are open and it includes my door lights as well as the dome.

Got the part, bcm, and they work again. Just to add if anyones lights inside the car do not work its number 26 on our 95 maxima. Should e be a 7.5 and the lights will work. get a flash light and you can see the nubmbers of the fuses if hard to see.

Half my keyring doesn't light up. Is there a led or bulb back there or does the whole key ring have to be replaced?

There's a bulb. Pull off the steering column trim and you'll see it.

I was having the same problem with the dome light. It would work when switched on manually but would not work with the door switch, so i pulled the driver side plastic piller cover off and found the wiring for the dome and map light. If i remember correctly the wires were red, black, and red with a white stripe. the red is constant power for the map light and for the dome when switched on manually, and black is ground.. but just for the map light. The dome grounds with the mounting screw. The dome lighting works off of ground, the red with a white stripe is supposed to controle the dome when the door is oppened.. but wasnt. So what i did was take the door pannel off and traced the wiring for the door light and jumped the red with a blue stripe wire to the red with a white stripe wire after cutting it and it worked. I spliced a prmanant wire into the red and blue wire and ran it through the door with all of the other ones and pulled it up the piller. It doesnt work exactly like its supposed to but ive tryed everything. All i need it to do is come on when the door is open and when i manually turn it on, and that it does. Just a suggestion for ya.

Electrical Problems.

Ok so I've gone through this whole thread and I came across a couple of the same problems. I felt that it'd be easier to just reply. I recently bought LEDs for my 95 Max. Courtesy lights, map light, dome, trunk light, and license plate lights.

Trunk, license plate, dome lights work fine. Here's the problem; map light doesn't work @ all. I put the original bulb back in and it does work so i'm assuming it's the bulb they gave me. That's not what's really bugging the sh*t out of me though...

The driver side courtesy light works fine but when i have the passenger side bulb in, and close the door, it not only stays on, but actually gets brighter. I've been tampering with all this for a couple weeks now and i'm starting to get frustrated. I'm just glad i came across this thread.

So if there's any help, information, anything i can get from y'all. I'd be forever grateful. Thanks in advance fellow .org members!

This is funny, many years ago I tried replacing my keyring light with one converted to LEDs and the new one didn't work after I plugged it in. I then reinstalled the stock keyring, and it didn't work either! Since it was just the keyring, I just tried to ignore it, and it hasn't worked since. At the time, all other interior lights worked and no fuses were blown. I was confused as to how only the keyring light was broken and not any others. But then I had similar problems after trying to install LEDs in the door lights and map lights. After installing LEDs and them not working, the OEM lights didn't work either!

Someone in another thread mentioned a "proper" way to install LEDs in these cars. Does anyone know what that method would be? I assume the circuit just needs to be powered off, is there more to it than that?

I also have power door locks that have a mind of their own (when I unlock it will quickly lock them all again, but one of the front doors will be unlocked) and a large parasitic drain. I can't help but wonder if my BCM is faulty, since it also controls sleep mode.
