5th Gen "I AM NEW HERE BUT HAVE A QUESTION" thread
RS6F51H == HLSD.
RS6F51A == Open diff.
Correct. Since drive by wire controls the throttle plate electronically, it's cheaper and more effective to just crack the throttle to control the idle.
tires 01 max
need new tires for my 01 max. bought yokohomas last time from tire rack, they had great reviews. didnt seem to last long though. (cant quote mileage cuz i run snow tires in winter, upstate ny) anyone have any tires they loved enough to recommend? nothing fancy mostly day to day driving
im running bridgeston potenza GO19s...they are great in the spring/summer/falll....made the mistake of leaving them on in winter...NO grip...if you put snow tires on anyway though id go with them for non winter conditions....i think ive seen alot of maxes around me with Nexes (spelling?)
New Here
Helllo everybody. Im new here and could use some help please. recently my idle air valve control went out. After fixing that the service light went off. Recently it came back on. Im gonna go get some codes off it to see what it is.

I have found that local autopart stores carry the grey dot coil packs. Such is the case of the $70 Autozone's Duralast coils. The grey dot is hidden under a silver sticker and the nissan logo and part number are shaved off from the stems and the heads of the coils, perhaps because of some copyright or brand name issue. The same is the case with some of the coils I ordered through amazon.
A little Help!! Please
Hi Guys thanks for taking the time to read my post. I have just recieved some disturbing news from the dealership. They want $990 to change a Cat because its plugged. Is there only 2 pre-cats then the actual cat? Can you purchase the pre-cats or am i better off replacing "y" pipe? If its the back cat i will just replace that but If i have to replace the "y" pipe doe anyone know a good place to get one??

Thanks In Advance

Bad Cats
The Car is a 2000 with 156k. They had suposedly change a cat a few years ago under wrty. and i believe it was one of the fronts because the rear didnt look new. I will find out for sure when i go pick up car because i obviously didnt have them do the work thats crazy!! I am just wondering if i do have to replace a front cat can they be bought individually or do i need to replace the whole y pipe? It pulls codes for both banks catylist so i dont know but i am guessing its the rear which will be easy. Thanks for all the help.

Intake Manifold
Does anyone have an aftermarket Intake Manifold?
1.) What's the gain like if any?
2.) Difference in sound?
3.) Last but not least, where did you get it?
I'm trying to totally replace all my airflow components.

There's the Kinetix, but NA you're not going to make much if any power from it.
Or you could do the RWD VQ35 UIM, but that requires even more modification than the SSIM, and you may very well have hood clearance issues.
You're plenty good with the stock manifold, if you're looking to modify it you could just do the SSIM. There are no aftermarket intake manifolds made for the FWD VQ35 besides the Kinetix.

What's an SSIM?
The SSIM information is easily found, and I'll refer you to the first post of this thread:
Key places to look are All Motor and this subforum here.
Found em here in case anyone else is curious:

2003 6spd 3rd gear
Ok im new here .. so bare with me .. does anyone else have a problem with the 2003 max feeling like it grinds into 3rd gear? Its a 6 spd?... and also is there anyone in the Richmond VA area that could help me with some install stuff like i have a set of K-Sport coilovers that have been sitting for 2 months because i know nothing about installing them.. and live in a Town house and have no where to even try .. Thanks
Seriously, this has been beaten to death. Yes, it grinds into 3rd. It's common. It happens.
My friend has a black 2003 20th anniversary and is set on purchasing nismo lmgt4s.He is wondering what is the most aggresive offset he can run or the best looking without it looking like a sunken battleship. All help is appreciated
As to your question, here are some relevant threads:

Just to name a few. Do a search for more info.
You could, but you'll blow the struts fairly quickly, depending on drop. Just get a good set of struts and springs. Before you ask which, search. There are many threads with good info on this.
Are the rims different?
I have a 03 SE 6spd Maxima and my buddy keeps telling me the finish on my rims are different than a regular SE. Is he bugging or is there something to what he is talking about. I only ask this because my rim is bent and i have to replace it and i don't want to get a replacement rim and the finish not match. If anybody has got some aftermarket rims and want to sell their factory rims hit me up.

2003 Maxima SE - MAF
2003 Maxima SE - MAF
I would like to replace the MAF on my 2003 Maxima SE, can someone please figure out what and where to get it?
I went to the dealer and they first offered me a MAF for $300 but ended up being the wrong one. Then they offered me a $600 MAF which they say is the right one this time (22680-AM600) with a discounted price of $400 since they messed up the first time, is this a good deal? or can I find better online somewhere?
Also is the 22680-AM600 the correct one? Any ideas or wisdom on replacing my MAF and exactly what I should get. Thank you very much.

What do you mean by "get an A33 (5th gen) MAF"? Is there a part #? Also, my car is in fact a 5th gen (2003 Maxima) so naturally I won't get anything else but for a 5th gen so what do you mean? Is there another version for the 5th gen?
Also, I'm sorry about the fact that I have no idea who Dave B. is??
Thank you.
I'm sorry but I tried searching and so many articles come up and sweeping through them all I'm finding is non-conclusive random comments about stuff that leads to other stuff, very confusing.

This is why I said to search.
I googled it, and this is on the first page:
It's in the FAQs, and search brings it up a thousand times.
The most common places are Dave Burnette at SouthPoint Nissan in Texas, 1-888-254-6060 and tell him you are from the org. Or courtesyparts.com. Dave will probably be a couple bucks cheaper, and much better service. He is in the stickies in the generation-specific maxima forums above, but he works parts at SouthPoint Nissan in Austin and hooks up forum members with very good deals.

IThank you for all the info, I opened some links you referenced and found:
"Call Dave Burnette at South Point Nissan and order the new 2k1 meter for around $110. Then transfer your existing IAT thermisitor over to the new 2k1 MAF and re-install it. You'll basically have the AM600 MAF once you move the thermisitor over."

Transfer existing IAT thermisitor over to the new 2k1 MAF?? No offence but I have no idea how to do that they way they describe it seems to assume like I'm a Nissan Technician or electrical engineer I have no idea what that means or how to do it and they have no instructions.
Since I'm not an electrical engineer would I just get the same benefit by spending $400 on the AM600 which already has all that in it?
Thanks.

There are pictures and clear instructions.
If you want to save 15 minutes by spending an extra $320, go right ahead. Yes, you'll have the same thing either way.
Personally 15 minutes of work is a lot easier than spending $320, but that's just me
need new tires for my 01 max. bought yokohomas last time from tire rack, they had great reviews. didnt seem to last long though. (cant quote mileage cuz i run snow tires in winter, upstate ny) anyone have any tires they loved enough to recommend? nothing fancy mostly day to day driving

Could i drop the car by just changing springs and still use factory struts?
