5th Gen "I AM NEW HERE BUT HAVE A QUESTION" thread
Just bought a 02 SE with 65k, I've put 800 miles on it in the 8 days I've had it, yesterday the SES light came on. Autozone pulled the following two codes.
P0455 - Evap leak
P1147 - 02 Max voltage not met
I've looked into what people suggest for the codes, will probably try a new gas cap first as its the cheapest solution.
But my real question is can I tell if the ECU has been reset recently, like if it was reset before I bought it with these codes then they have popped back up after some more driving. My mechanic hooked it up to a OBD II device and didn't show any codes before I bought it but I wasn't sure if it could tell if it had been reset recently. Also if I remember correctly when you go for a MA inspection you can't pass if your ECU had been recently reset to hide codes but I could be wrong.

Modding CAIs?
I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but I'm just asking because I'm too cheap to actually spend $300+ on an Injen intake for my Max...

Anyone have any experience with building a CAI for the 5th gen out of the universal piping you can buy from Autozone, or possibly modding a 4th or 6th gen. short ram/cai for use on a 5th gen? And I'm not looking for the ghetto air intake made out of dryer tubing, either. Tried it...hated it.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated..

Hi i am new here and i am wondering if anybody has had the same problem as me. My wifes car has 152k and we have owned it since it had 56k and overall has been a great car. But now when you are driving, if you hold in the clutch for more than a few seconds it will drop the rpms down to nothing and sometimes bounce back up or sometimes it will stall which can be a little dangerous. Car has no current DTCs. It runs fine at idle and never stalls but once you get going like 30mph or above if you hold the clutch in it will stall. Plugs are new and the coils have been replaced once, so has the MAF. I have been wondering if there is some type of speed sensor involved in this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated as i dont want to bring it to the dealer.

You may also have to remove the fan to get all of the area clean. There are several threads plus how to's to help you get to the fan and filter.

It comes up whenever i apply the breaks or whenever i hit any potholes or make right turns...(not consistant though)

can anyone tell if theres a difference in the color of the light gray leather interior from an 01 maxima compared to an 02 maxima. Are they the same color or a lighter/darker shade of one another? i have an 02 maxima and i need headrests for it (light gray leather) and some guy wants to sell me the headrests from an 01 maxima? will there be a color difference thats noticeable? thanks in advance!
i asked this question in the forum but no one actually confirmed it but does an 02-03 nissan emblem from the trunk fit for the 00-01? i switched tails to the 5.5 gens and i still have the black emblem and wanna know if the 5.5 gens chrome emblem will fit in the same holes?

when i bought my 01 max i noticed the coolant was a bit low. I didn't think of it much since i didn't see any apparent leaks and just refilled the radiator (no water running sound yet). A couple of days later the check engine sign came on. I went to autozone and they said the 02 sensor needs to be replaced. I also started hearing what seemed like water running under the dash on startup. Well i know its below freezing outside so the noise can only be the coolant. Surprisingly enough the check engine sign went away today and now the check engine sign is replaced by the water running sound
Is it possible that the coolant is being leaked onto the wiring or something that connects the o2 sensor to the ecu? And now that the coolant is below the leak point (if there is a leak) the o2 sensor came back to life?

Hey Ive got a coolant leak right below my throttle body and im not sure where its coming from

Have you looked as to exactly where the coolant is leaking? You've got two coolant lines to the TB, and the coolant log from head to head under there too.

Call them and see if you can get the bend piece (if you want to keep it all original Berk). If not, get one of those bends from an auto parts store or a piece of IC piping. The midpipe also appears to be a longer piece.
Honestly, just sell it and buy the Altima kit.

Do a pressure test, see if you can find the leak.
Have you checked the O2?

Go to the classifieds, there are probably some stock intakes floating around there.
thanks, Ive checked, but i cant seem to find out where its dripping, I know its literally dripping directly below the throttle body, and i even see where its right above what i BELIEVE is the actual "throttle position sensor", or to the left of the throttle position screw (that phillips head screw)

I plug everything just they way it was and when i turn my lights on only the high halogen light comes on and the HID light doesn't turn on at all. and also my day time running lights don't turn on at all.

Hi everyone. I just got a 2002 Maxima SE last week. The car has 79600 miles on it right now. So far I'm liking it, but the SES came on a few hundred miles after I got it. Went to Autozone to have the codes read and got 1612, 1800, 1147, and 0139. I kind of know what they mean and I reset the ecu. The light came back on though after driving 60 miles. 1147 and 0139 means the oxygen sensor but I want to be sure about it before I cough up the money for a sensor. I already looked at the diagram in the sticky and know where it is located, but can someone look at this https://www.automedicsupply.com/cata...?&pkey=1431961 and tell me which brand and part number it is? The whole front, rear, pre-cat, and post-cat naming is kind of confusing to me. Also, how is the Walker brand of o2 sensors? I haven't heard of them before.
Also, can the vais be fixed with this diy http://www.cardomain.com/ride/442543/16 since my car has the 3.5 and the diy has a 3.0?

You need bank 1, sensor 2. Also called Rear bank, post cat. Or could be called right bank, whichever. As long as it's right/rear/1, and sensor 2/postcat, that's what you need.
Wrong type of VIAS, really. DE-K's have dual runner UIMs, you've just got a power valve.
That's for the SV bolted to the front of the UIM, right next to the vacuum canister. Has two vacuum lines on it. It's either the harness or the valve itself.

Anyway, have you tested them as said above?
yes i plug all of the wires and then turn the car on and hi beams comes on in my regular light switch and HID don't even in Hi Beam Switch.
