Hey, I'm back, and I am now a Maxima owner. Got an '02 on Monday.

I read about in-cabin air filter being standard on the '02-03. Yet when I called the Nissan dealership, they say there is no such part for this model year - that the in-cabin filter was started in '04.

One source referencing the existance of the filter is here:
http://www.shiftice.com/cabin_filter.html
I've also seen a part referenced at sites such as car-stuff for my year.

I could always remove glove box and take a look, but I thought someone here might know whether this air filter is standard or not for the '02.

I thought that filter was standard on 02-03 and optional on 00-01. I think those models should have a label in the glove compartment referring to the cabin filter. Mine didn't have such a label nor did it have a filter, but it did have a place or housing to put one. I got one from Autozone (Beck Arnley 042-2038 cabin filter) and installed it in there.

Yes. Only way to check, that I know of, is actually removing the glove compartment. There's useful information and tips in this thread:
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...000-miles.html

Supposedly, if your car has a factory filter already, you should have in your glove compartment, a label like this:

I found the glovebox did have the sticker about the filter, so the dealer parts guy was wrong. I emailed them, and the manager of parts phoned back to apologize for a new guy who didn't know how to look up the cabin air filter part. For the 02-03, the original filter is paper with a thin cardboard-like frame - one piece. The aftermarket filter from Wix includes charcoal and anti-microbe coating, and is in two frames of sturdy plastic, one sitting atop the other. The original filter looked like it might have been 8 years old - very choked up with a gray coat of dust.

If you wanna post a for sale thread in the 5th gen classifieds, talk to a mod for that forum, or an admin. They might be able to help you out.

Or get yourself to 15 posts (without postwhoring... )and then start up a thread.

Hey guys,
Alright so i just got an 03 max and for about 2 days now, i've been noticing that there is something wrong with the BOSE Cd player. the sound either comes on the left side or the right and at random times in unison. At first i thought it were the speakers but the cassete and the radio work fine and u could hear it perfectly clear. I thought that the Cd changer maybe need cleaning so I bought a lens cleaner for 15 bucks and that dam thing didnt work. Anyone have any ideas as to what I shud do? Plz help

There's really no way to do this. You'd be better off buying a used Maxima ECU, sending it off to TechnoSquare and having them re-program it with the 350z VTC maps. Trying to wire in another ECU from a different vehicle and expecting it to run properly without major software reprogramming just won't work...even if the harnesses matched, I doubt the pinouts would be the same.

It's a common issue with our cars. It's not the speakers, it's actually the wiring inside the head unit. Nissan used cheap ribbon wiring, and over time it works its way loose and eventually starts cutting out. It happens in more than just the Maxima. My 350z has the same issue. The subwoofer likes to cut in and out.

If you want to keep the head unit, there's a write-up here. It's not an easy task, though.

Your best bet is probably to spend a couple hundred bucks on a nice aftermarket HU. The only downside is that you lose your steering controls.

My front seat does not move forward it's stuck all the way back. The rest of the controls work. Up/down for both the seat itself and the back.(recline) why could be wrong?

Hey y'all

Dammit, I had this sweet message typed up, went to click "preview", found out I wasn't logged in, and lost it all.....

Oh well, life goes on.

Wanted to stop in, see what y'all have going on. I just signed the title on an 02 GLE, black on black, leather, bose, 17's, yadda yadda, y'all know the drill, got 146k on the clock, I paid $1200 for it, why?

Engine's locked up, lol, NBD, I ain't afraid to drop another in, I see 'em on car-part.com for $450-$600, actually looks pretty easy going by my Mitchell/OnDemand5, comes out the bottom, I've got lifts and tools, piece of cake. From what the previous owner told me, it sounds like a coolant line to the oil cooler failed on him on the interstate, and by the time he realized he was running hot, it was too late, and the engine locked up. The rad's empty, and the oil's a little overfull, very chocolate milky-ish. Looks like the HG failed and what little coolant was left mingled with some engine oil. I'm thinking for laughs I might try to un-stick the motor and pour in some Steel Seal, aaaahahahaha, like I said, for laughs, the motor's trashed, what's the worst I can do?

Car's in real good shape, interior is cherry, got a couple paint scrapes I can clean and buff, and the RF bumper cover needs to be pulled back out, easy, tires are good, car's ready to go, just needs motivation. I'll try to post some pics after I hose it off, it's been sitting this last month.

First thing I want to tackle after it's running are the headlights, they seem awful faded/foggy. Is there a "treatment" or technique y'all wanna recommend, to buff these things back out?

After that, I guess I'll know if I need to do that MAF dealie I've been reading about, but other than that, I don't really wanna wrench on this car, just back and forth from work every day and haul the kids around occasionally.

Speaking of the Mitchell OnDemand5 program I use, here's some recall numbers they pulled up for my car, I'll be researching as soon as it's on the road:

RECALLS
All Recalls by Number 7 Titles
OEM REF NO TITLE PUB DATE
02V010000 ODOMETER READS IN KILOMETERS NOT MILES
02V043000 ACCELERATOR PEDAL STOPPER
02V146000 SUSPENSION TRANSVERSE LINK REPLACEMENT
03V455000 CRANK POSITION SENSOR
06E026000 EXTERIOR LIGHTING 2006-03-23
09E012000 EXTERIOR LIGHTING 2009-04-07
09E025000 EXTERIOR LIGHTING: HEADLIGHTS 2009-05-11

There's also a ton of TSB's, but they can come later. Think I'll wander on over to the "for sales", see if anyone's selling a VQ35DE.....

Y'all take care, talk later,

Transmission problems

I have a couple of questions and also a couple of problems with my 2000 Maxima . First of all for some reason when I am either about to park, or trying to make a u-turn, or coming out of a parking whether going forward or reverse my car shuts off and the battery, brake, and oil lights turn on. I have to turn off the car and turn it on again quickly in order for me to move but sometimes it turns off several times in a row. I've been told it can be a problem with my relays, or a ground wire, or some other things can anyone please tell me what might be the cause? Also my car has this weird problem where sometimes not always when I am accelerating and right around 20 mph the car kinda shakes the rpm's go way up and it only stops when I let go of the gas. I had a couple of places look at it one said I need to rebuild my transmission others said i just need to change a few sensors. I need to know what the problem is because it is really annoying, can anyone give me some advice?

Hello all. This forum as already been a big help. I would like to start a new thread but I am still unable to even with 15 posts. I am having a lack of power issue and have checked a few things out and I would like to start a new thread. I dont want to start it in here because I would like to add pictures as well of oil in my intake manifold and figured it would be best in a new thread. Can anyone help me out please.
