It's your precat behind the radiator.

Hollow it out or get a Eastern Cat.

On a 2000/2001 (5th gen) Maxima the best bang for your buck bolt-on mod is going to be an aftermarket y-pipe, because that eliminates the pre-cats in the 5th gen. After that, there are a ton of other supporting mods you can do. (short ram intake, headers, NWP intake spacers, etc etc.)

I have a question: is there a #74 LED available so I can just swap out with no soldering? I really not concerned about brightness i just want to achieve a particular color. Since the subject is somewhat related. what bulbs would I need to replace some of my warning lights specifically my abs, tcs, and slip lights on a 2000 max. What kind of bulbs do the shift selector for a auto, the auto climate control, window controls, and the stock radio. I basically want to make em all green. Any help would be appreciated

The inside of a precat is made of a honeycomb ceramic type material that can be removed in a couple minutes with a air chisel, or 20 mins with a normal tool.

You would also have to get a O2 simulator to trick the computer into not throwing a P0430 code again. This is all if you don't want to spend the money (about $180) for a new Eastern Precat.

BOSE SOUND :-(

I recently purchased a used 2002 Maxima GLE with the BOSE sound system in it. There is absolutely NO BASS in this system...it's terrible! The car looks like it had a separate aftermarket sub in it from previous owner. Do you think the lack of bass is from the stock BOSE sub possibly being disconnected? What do other 02 GLE owners think of their BOSE system?

It sounds likely that it was disconnected because of an aftermarket being installed, but I think it would be beneficial for you to confirm if your Bose sub is actually hitting or not, prior to posting. This way we can guide you based on facts rather than speculation.

If it is actually active, then I'd recommend replacing your Bose HU with something aftermarket - it will bring out the untapped potential of the rest of your Bose speaker system.

Maxima Year 2000 Auto Transmission idling issue

Hi, I am a newbie here, looks like a great place to get to know your car. I have a 2.0 Maxima auto year 2000, just got it a few days ago. I notice though when it is idling and in d when my foot is on the brake, it is like the engine is pulsing, kind of jumpy every few seconds, hard to explain. If I put the car in P or N, it sounds perfect, no sensation. When moving very slow, I notice this too but once on the motorway etc, it is fine moving along. It is not even like the car is trying to pull off, it is a very odd sensation. Any advice or help would be great.

All the best,

Mike.

Dublin, Ireland.

Yes, it will fit. Bolts right onto the crossmember and lines up to the engine no problem.

What makes the SE and GLE different, when it comes to performance? Is it just the transmission or tuning?

No difference in performance if you get the auto transmission. If the SE has a manual, then it's a bit different, but the engine is identical.

The differences are more in the suspension and cosmetics/options/features.

Hi again guys,

Turns out I cannot create my own thread (yet?) so I'll post my question here.

I tried to DIY brake master cylinder replacement. I knew I'd definitely need the Flare Nut wrench to loosen/open bleeder bolts on the MC. Well lo and behold after suctioning the brake fluid using a turkey baster, i started to loosen the brakeline bolts, the one on top came loose fairly easily. But the one that's facing throttle body seemed really hard to shake off. The wrench just spun off a little. I reseated and made sure to hold it in place so it doesn't run off again. After trying relentlessly for a while, the bolt is just semi-stripped. The corners on the bolt are almost warped. I don't think I'll be able to loosen or unbolt it using the Flare nut wrench.

So for now I've tightened up the upper bolt again since I can't take off the MC anyways till I have a solution to get the brake lines off.

Have any of you ever run into this problem? What's my best bet to unbolt the stripped bolt? I'll ofcourse replace them both with the new ones once I have 'em off. Getting 'em off is a priority right now. Please help!!!!

Thanks a mill!

I have not tried it yet. I'll have to buy vise grips. You know the spot is kinda tight though....

Definitely looks like you can. Regular ones have a lot more gripping power and have a few sizes, but if you can't fit any, get the needle nose kind.

Why don't you use a regular box wrench instead of flare nut?

I was under the impression that the reason you use Flare nut is because it prevent stripping of the bolt since it envelopes the bolt. lol Ironic!!

I tried to needle nose pliers already, it's a no go. The damn bolt is on there pretttttty tight.

Try vice grips. The nut is already stripped so who cares if the teeth marr it up.

Hello.
Anyone ever had an issue where front speakers just stop working, then come back and go out again?
Checked the fuses, and the harness connection. Weird.

It's your head unit. Replace with aftermarket.

Check the all motor section. There's a LOT of info there.

Here's a link to the sticky in that section that has the 5 speed swap parts list:

It is relatively straight forward. You can use your auto ecu, but it will throw a few codes. Here is everything you need to know:

**Please PM all Responses** I posted a few weeks ago that I had a cat code p0420 pop up, I realized that I had overlooked a test pipe that replaced the rear cat. With this new knowledge, I wanted to know if this could be the reason for my P0420 code? And if so, should I be concerned about the front cat being clogged or damage because of the test pipe? Also, would the test pipe cause the smell of a cat going bad (egg smell? It has only happened once)? How concerned should I be? I am not familiar with how test pipes operate but, plan on doing some research to find out. Could I just replace the test pipe and be fine? "Please" PM me responses or if you need more detailed information of what's happening. Thanx in advance.

Don't you have to install a O2 sim or antifoulers with a test pipe?

How many holes, and how big are they? The repair is really dependent on the extent of the damage.

Have you been able to isolate where the water is coming from? 99% of the time it leaks through a bad seal in the tail lights.

Also, have a look at the link in my signature. I've developed a product that replaces the saggy spare tire cover - I'm assuming yours is soaked and useless by now.
