I use LFR5A-11's Justified here---> http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...&postcount=120
I posted that sarcastic reply in an attempt to clear up sooners post seen here:

My point, using these plugs (LFR5A-11) will have no ill affect on the engine whatsoever, even if they are incorrect plugs.

Well aren't those copper? If so do you think they're these ones that I mentioned above http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...7554805&rd=1,1 ?
If that's the case them I'm more then happy with copper at 3.50 a pop instead of 10 plus shipping!

Detonation vs Pre-ignition
I just read this article found in the FAQ's on this forum.
http://www.streetrodstuff.com/Articl...ne/Detonation/
It speaks about the differences between detonation and pre-ignition, and from what I understand;
Detonation: burn-off of end gases in the cylinder chamber after the spark plug fires.
Pre-ignition: spontaneous ignition of the air/fuel mixture before the spark plug fires, due to heat/pressure, etc.
Light detonation, not so bad. Pre-ignition, very bad.
If this is true, why is it that in most cases, you can get rid of detonation by retarding your timing? What difference does it make what your timing is set at if the end gases of the fuel mixture is firing after the spark plug fires?
The reason I'm asking is because in all cars I've had, I could get rid of engine pinging by backing off the timing, and I'm not sure there's any difference between these two terms. Both are pre-ignition, no?
I've got the well known engine ping in my '02 I35 between 1500-2000rpm under light throttle, when my A/C is on in hot weather, and in traffic.
My second question is, why the hell isn't the knock sensor hearing this ping, and backing off the timing for this problem?

Also mentioned in the thread above, retard your base timing a degree or 2.

I searched and couldn't find this answer. Buying struts; tokico illuminas or tokico illumina A33's? I am a driver and I may tune her up seriously, so are A33 package as good for daily driving as the ebach/illumina setup? What comprimises are there, thanks.

Hey guys,
I bought and installed Illumina struts and Eibach springs a couple of weeks ago. Since last week I have been having a "thump" noise coming from the passenger rear wheel. I went back and tightened everything again and I still have this noise. I also recently installed a Cattman catback exhaust. Thanks for any help

Also they mentioned that I have to replace part which is in charge for quiet/steady operation of engine itself (engine mounts my guess!?) and that this part caused all trouble shorting the wire and blowing the chip.
Does this story make a sense?
What could cause this? Is it just part got older or any other issues caused this? Is this usual problem on maximas?
I saw some wires on engine mounts:

Any info how this system works?

Got a new ECU and a new engine mount, I really feel the difference: before, I could feel the engine vibrating in the steering wheel. Not anymore...

I was wondering if anyone has a shifter **** for an 02 Maxima. Mine is getting pretty worn and I would prefer to either put the stock **** back on or something pretty similar. Thanks.
I understand this post should go under 'Parts for Sale/Wanted', but I don't have enough posts to start a topic - thanks.

I am trying to find out what the differences are between the GXE and SE trim levels on a 2002 maxima. The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking at a 2002 to buy and its got 16" 5 spoke alloys. I know that those come with the GXE trim. The salesman said its a SE but I'm not sure if he's right. What else do I need to look for that will distinguish between the two? I spose its possible that the last owner just put these on and sold the original 17"? Someone want to help me out here?

1. 17" rims stock
2. An "SE" badge on the back. If there is no badge, it's probably a GXE
In terms of engine and suspension, the GXE is the same as the GLE (SE has slightly stiffer sprigns and stiffer front sway bar).
Then it comes down to options. If the car has cloth interior, no sunroof, no automatic climate control, and no Bose stereo, its probably a GXE.
What does the car have on it? that will allow us to know which model it is, usually.
There is also a code on the information plate on the firewall in the engine bay, but I don't recall offhand what part of teh code indicates the trim level.

2. call DaveB (see stickies for his number) for the best deal on a new ****.

1. Why can't I post my own threads? It says I need activation? I already did, a few times...
2. I want to increase the power a little without adding any noise, I like the quietness of the car. I figure it'd be engine work and not intake/exhaust.

2. if you don't want to add ANY noise, and don't want to do engine internals...the best bet is to buy some lightweight wheels (under 17lbs or so) to replace your 25lb stockers. removing rotational mass will have essentially the same effect as adding power, and will not add any noise.

I just bought an '02 se w/ 6 speed.
I have a few questions, and did some searching.
The first, is in regards to my transmission.
I have noticed that some times it may be difficult to get it into gear or it may scratch slightly. After searching, it seems that the 6 speed is pretty notchy. I did not find anything that showed how to change out the trans fluid, and, while I am at it, whats the best trans fluid to make it shift smooth(er).
My car also did not come with a manual, I am trying to find out what oil I should use, I'd like to change out the oil and prob go mobile 1 or amsoil. I will more then likely be only driving the car during the warmer months and drive my truck in the colder months.
I notice that under slight to medium acceleration, at times, it feels as if the car is missing. The car has 48k on the clock, I would like to think that the stock ignition system should be more then adequate at 48k miles. I was also reading that the 02's had some MAF problems? Where is the best place to look to get an OE replacement?
Motor mounts-being that the car is a stick, how often are these prone to failure?
Also, is there a good how-to/faq to the most common bolt on's? I am thinking I'd like to do a few to add more pep.
Thanks in advance.

I am a n00b and I have a question...
I live in Houston and I'm tired of idiot drivers slamming their Lincoln Navigator doors into my car and scratching up the paint. Luckily, most of the damage is on the passanger side doors, over those door bumper things. I have a 2002 metallic grey GLE. Is there any way to replace this piece without having to repaint the car?
Also, does anyone make chrome versions of this piece? I think that would look sweet with the chrome lining around the windows... and would take the punishment a little better...

I have a 2000 Maxima SE (Smoke) and am wondering what my options are for HID headlights.
I've been doing some reading and it seems that with the proper wiring, HIDs from 2002+ Maximas fit on my generation. They are expensive as all hell though, so, I'm wondering if there are good aftermarket HIDs that fit in my 2000 Max.
I think a dark housing would look pretty good, so that would be a plus also.

If you search here on ebay and projectors, you can find some info; here is one thread:

But do the world a favor, and dont put xenon upgrade lights into halogen housings. They are not designed for it and you will blind everyone in front of you.

This is not definitive mind you, but it is one more thing you can check.
