To me, it sounds like there may be some sort of charging system issue. See about having your battery and/or alternator checked to make sure they're working properly. That would be one of the first steps that you can take that aren't overly complicated and/or expensive. Once you get beyond that point, you can start to attempt to isolate the issue further.

Good luck.

1. looks at the coil packs. Do they have a gray dot on them, or not?
2. Have you changed spark plugs recently?
3. MAF may need to be replaced
4. IACV may be bad.

EDIT: now that I re-read your post, it looks more and more like a bad IACV (Idle air control valve). I have this problem on and off as well, but it's not something I want to mess with, since some people have screwed up their ECUs trying to fix it. If this is the case, I would probably have the dealer take care of it.

ive heard of cleaning the IACV after having similiar issues, would you sugest this? Further while accelerating there seams to be a bit of a "lapse" from when hit the throttle to when the car pulls, coulod this be relating to my MAF

any help would be appreciated

My clutch is being a lil hard to press and is making squeeky noise. I checked on my cluth fluid and it is decreasing at slow rate. any suggestions?

Which one is the first bank for the 0420 SES code. I am thinking its the most rear under the car since its a 2001 with 4 O2 sensors.

i have 2001 5-speed

regards

I am new here, but I have an intermittent gauge light failure

I want to say hello to all and thanks for having a cool forum. I own a 96 SE 5sp with 190k miles which is for sale 2k. I just purchased an 03 Se 6sp all options except Navi with HLSD and the gauge lights go off while all other interior lights work. They may come back on, they may not. This happens in the daytime and at night. Are these lights adjustable by the dimmer? I thought they should be able to be dimmed, but it appears when they are lit they are at a constant level. The other lights dim appropriately with the wheel. My question is, does the standard operation of these lights allow the gauge lights to be dimmed along with the other interior lights? Is this a problem others have experienced because I cannot find any details. Are the gauge lights a separate fuse? I doubt its a fuse since they go on and off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Clunky 1-2 and 2-3 shifts

I was reading the posts about MT-90 fluid and I am going to try that to alleviate the 1-2 clunk and 2-3 clunk. It only happens when I shift as fast as I want, if I take it slow, the shifts are perfect. I will let you know. Are these synchros prone to clunk?

buying a 00-01 Maxima with a rod linkage will get rid of the clunky shifting. You have a cable linkage. Get used to the clunk.....

cable shift linkages suck....

MT-90 combined with ES bushing significantly help the clunky/notchy shifting.
it will never be eliminated though due to the design (like irish said)

I believe your ? to the back windows was answered by Irish.
The seats do fold down. To pull down the rear seat simply look along the top of the headrest on either side for a **** that sticks up (one on each side).
Pull up on **** and then pull down seat.
Do the same on the other side.
You can not access the trunk through the rear arm rest on some of the newer maximas.

If everything is still stock, you'll have drilled, brushed stainless pedals, like those on the 350Z and 2001 Anniversary Edition models.

Those pedals can be bought aftermarket, even if the car wasn't equipped from the factory with HLSD.

This way is better just in case the car isn't still stock.

Look at the transaxle code under the hood on the firewall. If the code is RS6F51H you have HLSD, if not, it will be RS6F51A, which is open diff.

You can also just call Nissan and give them your VIN, they will be able to tell you everything the car came out of the factory with.

I have been wondering if I should get 2k2-2k3 HID's for my 2001, and I was looking at the Phillips branded one from performance_depot on eBay but I noticed mixed reviews according to my search.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=395311

Is there a better alternative or is this pretty much the only option for now?

Thanks in advnace for the response!

If I remember correctly, that happened to me right before I had the MAF replaced, along with hesitation and detonation while accelerating. But that was YEARS ago, so don't quote me.

Hey guys,

I just finished installing my new suspension (Eibach springs and Illumina struts) and am going to get an alignment tomorrow. I did drive the car a little bit today and whenever I turn to the right, there is a loud sound that comes from the passenger front side of the car. Is this normal or will an alignment take care of this sound? Thanks for any help.

sounds like you didn't align the top hat assembly correctly, or didn't seat the spring correctly on the lower seat. the Eibachs have more preload than alot of other springs so they accentuate the problem. I suggest you take them off and inspect to make sure everything is assembled correctly and pointed the correct direction.

yes, many people have done them.

Buy OEM (not ebay projector crap), you can often find them used as well.

you will also need the 02-03 wiring harness to splice into yours (its not plug and play) and the lower mounting clips. Call DaveB to get both of these items.

Im new on here with a question about pricing. my check engine light came on and i brought my car to a local shop. he said the middle of the three o2 sensors was broken. they are going to charge me $300 to fix it, and he said the o2 sensor itself costs $160...to me that sounds crazy, but then again...i am new. what do you maxima experts think?

Can you get the exact codes that were pulled? If so, post em here and we can probably give you more feedback. IMO, if you know which O2 sensor it is, you can save half of that doing it yourself. It shouldn't be that hard to do but yet they are charging you 1.5-2 hours labor.

yea, i just picked it up today, i just paid the $300. they had it all done and installed correctly, which i would rather it be done how it should due to the fact that i am considering selling my car, rather than me just setting up problems for the next owner.

In addition to the xenon and 9005 connectors your need, I recommend getting a pair of these:

http://store.racinglab.com/kyoplheduwih4.html

This way, you can wire these h4 plugs to the xenon and 9005 connectors, as well as a relay for the xenon, without cutting off/splicing of your Max's H4 harness.

It will save you time if you ever sell the car, because you will be able to quickly and easily swap out the halogen for the xenon lights.

Turn signals are a little trickier. I ordered a set of the park/turn signal bulb holders in the 00-01 headlights, cut off the end that holds the bulb, and then soldered wires from the leads on the plug end to the wires coming off the parking bulb holder and turn signal bulb holder on the 02-03 headlights. This created a custom adaptor to attach the turn signal harness without cutting it off either.

i kinda wanna order these fogs to match my headlights, but it says that they are stage 2 fogs. but the wattage and all that are just like the ones i have in now. What makes a fog a stage 2 fog, and should i not order these. tia. these are 55/100, and the JDM yellows i have in now are 55/130. just wondering the distinction.

Intake

Still debating whether or not to get an intake for my 2002 maxima, what are the benifits from it and are there any risks i.e. water or dust getting into engine. Also any recommendations on which one i should get besides injen or berk?

I just bought a 2k for 6k with 129k on it. I don't have some of the "goodies" that the newer models have. So I was wondering if I could 1) swap my cd player for a 6 disc in-dash cd changer & 2) swap my regular steering wheel for the one with the audio controls.
