NmexMax...

Thanks for the post. I have a question though: What would you do as far as routine maintenance? And, are stock springs OK if you dont plan on dropping your car? I dont like the dropped look.

I want to make sure all the important maintenance is up to date and then start with HP gains.

Stock springs are fine. And of course, all the regular maintenance found in the owners manual. Fix all that needs fixing.

Hi there folks !

I was reading you for half a year already but now I decided to join in the discussions

I have a 2002 SE Maxima automatic tranny and I was wondering if this car is locked at a certain speed. I know some cars are locked at 110 mph or are locked with the RPM's. I looked everywhere but I never saw anyone talking about it.

What I mean by lock is that the car won't let you go faster than a certain speed even if it could do it (didn't knwo how it is called)

Thanks a lot

its called a governor and that doesnt determine your top speed...the speed limit on the road does that.

meaning...it doesnt matter since you have no reason to ever go that fast

Seems as if you’re referring to a speed limiter. It’s @ 130MPH for the 4AT.

I just had my car towed to Armory Nissan up here in Albany, NY. I was just driving my 98 Automatic when the car would just rolled to a stop. I would give it gas and the revs would just go up and the mph would as well but the tranny wouldn't move the car. When i go from D back into P it grinds and makes terrible noises. Only in P though. So i have these guys looking at it and letting me know what what the deal is for $90 an hour. They said that they might have to take the tranny off to look at it better. I really have no idea about this one here boys so i could really use your help. I'm thinking it could be flywheel but i really am not a mechanic. Any input would be great guys!

What's the limit for the 6 speed? And what RPMs is the 4AT on while doing 60mph?

Speed limiters are only used/exploited when dynoing, IMO.

LOL! 149mph is plenty for me. So the RPMs are pretty much the same for auto and manual trannys. And they might be useless, but I was wondering what they were, because I've hit the 180km/h limit on my previous car on some longer trips... I was wondering where the limit was for the new car. Thanks for the answers!

Before looking at the speed limiter, check your speed rating of your tires.

I’m sure you knew this, but most if not all car manufactures use the correct speed rated tires for the application as OEM equipment. Hence why some GXE’s are speed limited since they are equipped with a lower speed rated tire from the factory. Also, when purchasing tires from a reputable company, i.e. TireRack/Discount, when entering in vehicle information, there is a disclaimer with respect to speed rating.

IIRC:
All A32 SE from the factory are fitted w/ H rated tires, and have a speed limiter of ~130. All A33/B SE's are equipped with V rates tires, hence the 149MPH speed limiter.

These are theoretical values on unloaded tires.

By now I would assume that he is on his seccond or third pair of tires, and not everyone spends the money on decent tires. Some go for the cheap tires, not realizing that good tires is money well spent..

I run OEM pads, but IIRC lots of people are running hawk performance pads.

the ones available to you in the GD section are some of the best that you can buy for our cars. Are you just looking for an oem replacement or something a little better? Street setup? What exactly are you looking for?

I broke the lense on my fog lamp this weekend (hatchet fell of the wall in the garage - duh) and I'm wondering if there's anywhere that just sells lenses, or if it can even be done? Does anyone have a P/N for that lense? An OEM replacement costs $77 so I'd like to replace the lense if I could.

Not an easy way around it. Buy the entire assembly.

I have a 2000 3.0L 5MT GXE.
I had it only for 3-4 months but I noticed there's a limiter @ 5000rpm at any gear. But when I get to the limiter if step on the gas more deeper it carries on more than 5000rpm. Mine got to 210KPH and it seemed like it can go further (I think the engine was running at 5300rpm) but I didn't like the way it was handling (due to the aerodynamics and suspension or whatever affects - my uncle's mercedes 230 is all stock and it is very steady at 200KPH and more). So I stopped pushing it.

I'm replacing my shocks/struts this weekend. The front of my car is sagging about a half inch on the front driver side and a quarter inch or so front passenger side (based on FSM). Rear is perfect. Do I need to worry about replacing the springs? Would hate to go thru all that work to replace the struts only to replace the springs later. I drive my car about 4k per month for work and don't want a lowered stiffer ride. Just going for comfort (too bad the "comfort your sole goal" thread is busted in the sticky). Also, anything else I should definitely replace since I'm doing this other work? Thanks
