Oh ****... Now ive done it..

I just finished replacing my radiator on my 2000 GLE. All was well. Everything woks great, then I accidently broke off one of the bolts that hold the radiator bracket (with rubber gromet) in place. So i decided it would be a good idea to drill a hole through the bracket and through the brace that runs in front of the radiator. Little did i know that the main wiring harness is tucked under that brace (a big 2 inch diamater group of wires). I just drilled straight through the wiring harness. Now i have the folloing problems:

One headlight is out.
One foglight is out.
Both interior dome lights are out.
All power door locks are not working.
Visor Mirror lights are out.
Keyless entry doesnt work.
The harness seems impossible to get to...
I'm screwed...

Ouch... A good mechanic should be able to help. Dealership will be a pretty penny.

or spend countless hours pulling it apart and splicing all the wires back together.

do what gen4 said. Go to the junk yard and grab the harness. Disconnect your bat and spend a sat splicing. Maybe cost you a couple bucks instead of a couple hundred or thou. You can do it..i have faith or see if an orger is close to you that you can pay to do it.

it was a very small drill bit.. i wouldnt have a problem splicing severed wires back together.. my fear is that the metal drill bit crossed connections and shorted a bunch of electronic components.. i still havent checked any fuses (at work now).. but im not counting on any luck there.. what a mess im in...

I would splice wires then look for other problems...
it sounds like it was mostly accessorie wires, might get lucky, and be able to fix it in an hour or so with only a few bucks...

WOW, that sucks... I cant help but chuckle, it sounds like somthing I would do... LOL

I bet it's not that bad. One power wire could cause multiple problems. Pull the harness out, peel back the wrap and see what's damaged.

If you could replace the radiator by yourself, you should be able to get this taken care of as well. I wouldn't think it would be all too difficult if it were a small bit that caused the damage.

Yea thats what I'm hoping.. I dont have much experience with electronics. and the small bit of experience i have has taught me its better not to mess with it.. lol.. im definately going to give it a shot though.

just reconnect all the wires.

for the people saying "replace it"...those wire all go to diffirent places. you know how long it would take to remove the yards of wire and replace all the wires? its not like they all start at one place and end on the other side of where they were cut.

It's not that difficult, you need to remove the with plastic holder, then you should be able to pull the cable underneath but you may have to remove the radiator in order to have room to solder the wire back together, ask a friend to help you then you should be done in 2-3 hrs.

Soldering iron + a couple of feet of wire(to cut into little pieces and connected the broken ends)
Reminds me of when I had to redo my ac/clock/radio after my car got broken into.
