P0300 misfire code. All the usual suspects check out OK...

I got a random / multiple cylinder misfire, cylinder 4 misfire, and camshaft position sensor bank 2, poor performance / timing over advanced codes. I do believe the camshaft position sensor has gone bad. I have horrible performance, and the engine sounds terrible. I went to inspect the cam position sensor today and inside where the harness connects to it I noticed what looked like it may have been oil on one of the prongs.
I am going to have my friend order me a new sensor from Nissan. I am also due for an oil change and spark plugs are original with (86,xxx); I think it is a good time to get the intake manifold spacer kit too. Hopefully this will solve the codes because I need to get my inspection done. I will keep everyone updated, hopefully within 1 week.

PO300 and cat fixed
My scanner was giving me po300 codes for a couple of months and didnt know what it was, car idled low 500's range and would die randomly. then got misfire cyl-3 replaced that coil, then cyl-1 mis replaced that coil,(the car now has 6 new coils cause i went ahead and replaced the other 4 coils) then looked at the old ones and the had been arching to the cyl head, their for completing the circuit. the car also had a bad exhaust leak and took it off and found the rear engine cat had fallen apart and clogged the exhaust,(it also blow a 4 in long hole in the cat) put a new cat on and runs just fine now

I had this code pop up a while, cleared it using the pedal dance and it went away. The only mods I had at the time were a bop and spacers. I just gutted my cats and installed a Cattman y-pipe, and the freaking code is back. After reading this thread there is a lot of possibilities, I remember reading about a solenoid in the cam sensor being cleaned and possibly fixing this, which im gonna try tonite. I'm also gonna check my front pre o2 sensor, since I don't have to take the intake mani off. Does any one know what it should read if it's ok, I don't have my computer and can't load the large fsm files on my iPhone

I too have code P0300 every once in a while. The idle sucks. It's very rough and it sounds like an intermittent dead cylinder. I happen to own a 2004 infiniti I35 and the motor is identical than my max. I exchanged the coils, installed new plugs, exchanged all three cam and crank sensors, maf and still the code is there and the idle is rough. My friend at the nissan stealer parts counter told me that the only other thing that could be bad is a faulty fuel injector. Does anybody know how to test injectors? Thanks for the response.

Random misfire resulted in blown engine
Well, after a couple months of the SES being on and blinking every once in a while my engine blew something.
I was driving normal, nothing crazy. I was actually off the gas changing lanes to get off at an exit. I remember hearing a sound and I looked out my rear view mirror and I noticed smoke coming out the back of the car. Then the engine failed and I coasted it off to the shoulder. When the tow truck came I noticed oil on the drivers side front tire.
I'd been having the SES come on and go off for about a year. Symptoms were crappy power, rough idle and hesitation on acceleration.
I guess my point here is that if it's running poorly it's possible that the misfires can result in complete engine failure. At this point my 2003 SE 6-speed is sitting in my driveway and I've put my 1997 SE 5-speed back on the road as it still runs perfectly with 178k miles on it.
I'm not quite sure what I'm doing with my 2003. Any suggestions? :-)
Anybody know of a reasonably priced engine replacement? I'm in NJ.

that sucks, I am sure there are plenty of junk yards by you in jersey with a low mileage used vq35de. search the boards or even search nycmaximas and maybe someone on their can help. I remember there was a member on their who worked at a junkyard so ...
