What do you do to make your engine look pretty? :)

Hey, I have no argument about that point, particularly since I already made it.
The sexy car that can't go nowhere... you just described everything that ever came out of Stance Nation.

I agree. tcb_02_max has an impressive list of mods, and that 350Z IM is sure unique... but those pictures are the total opposite of the thread topic. That engine bay is anti-pretty.
Sorry, tcb_02_max, but the pride is in the mods, not the looks. What you've got there is a seriously ugly chick who's awesome in bed.

I bought some new ti-bolts to replace the rusting chrome pins that anchor the FSTB to the tower brackets. The tapered allenhead design looks better with all the other buttoncap hardware from DressupBolts.com. And it matches the black-chrome on the FSTB brakets better.
Looking at this photo... I think I need a new pop-charger. It's only been about 10K miles, but that one's looking kind of done in.

This can potentially look real good if you clean up all the little details. Get rid of those rusty bolts, brackets, etc. Polish up or just paint that timing cover, re-route some wires and get a smaller battery with a cleaner relocate and you'll be golden. The black and red combo actually goes well together.
Other than that, how much did you have to lower the engine to get the manifold and plenum spacer to fit?

But that's just a side note, and I see the point your making and I agree to a certain extent. Back to the topic at hand now.

It's nuts.
The validation comes by surrounding yourself with other people who are just as crazy, then suddenly it doesn't seem so out there. It's the Tea Party of automotive modding.
And you're right, Stance Nation isn't in any way related to engine bling, so this is off-topic. I shouldn't have brought it up.

I get that, essential1. I just don't understand the psychology. It's analogous to intentionally wearing a full body cast when you have perfectly fine, unbroken limbs. And then taking pride in being able to hobble around, despite your self-imposed handicap.
It's nuts.

It's a great feeling to have a clean engine bay even though no one sees it, but my theory is if a mechanic opens up an engine and sees it clean and detailed, he may show more respect and be more diligent when working on the car.
I took the plunge earlier this year and got an engine shampoo done. Thankfully the water did no damage, so since then, every week when I check the oil level, I always wipe off the sides of reservoirs, the black plastics, and other surfaces with detailer and touch up the hoses with some tire shine to keep everything looking nice and neat.

I cleaned my engine bay and the engine too, also I installed the lift supports... Not the OEM ones. As an interesting fact I installed a different model from Mighty Lift where they recommend you the Model #95346 but I installed the 95090 and they fit perfectly even when you close your hood. They hold the hood without problems and you don't have to wait 1 o 2 weeks for them or spend a lot in OEM parts.
My clean (well, some spots are still a little dirty hehehe) engine bay. And the broom stick that holds my hood... LOL
And the hood with the new ones lift supports, even you can see that the weight of the hood isn't a problem and the height it's even higher that with the OEM supports.
Greetings everyone.

Its just a cover I found online. Wanted something different and have never seen one like this... figured might as well give it a shot. I wanted silver or black, but unfortunately my color choices were either red or blue... and I think you can figure out what I went with...

Work in progress, but at least it's clean. I plan to re-wrap all the wire harnesses with new tape. I also need a tube for the intake that replaces the "Black box". I found a cheep kit on ebay I might go with for just the tube. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-99...#ht_3823wt_812

These photos are much improved. At this point, I'd have to see your engine bay in-person in order to come up with constructive comments. (Probably the reverse could be said as well.)
I know you've got yellow in the battery, and the washer fluid cap, but I can't help but think the yellow-handled dipstick is out of place. Have you considered painting it maroon to match your new radiator cap? Same for your little green EVAP pressure test cap.

...unless you go the other direction, and cover your dipstick handle with one of those ZeeToys polished aluminum covers. Very nice.

Pick up a can of Rustoleum "Plastic" spray paint for cheap at Home Depot. When black, the dipstick handle and EVAP pressure test cap will pretty much disappear, which is perfect... no point in drawing attention to them.

You're probably going to be tempted to paint that yellow washer fluid cap. I tried, and no matter what I did, I just wasn't happy with the results. In the end, I purchased a gray cap off the Murano. It's a perfect fit, and designed with a pin-hole on the top and straw down the middle to insure it never pops off.
Or there's the 350Z cap, which is baby-blue. Not too keen on the blue.
But gray works really well. Better than the yellow, for sure.
