Acceleration hesitation
Acceleration hesitation
I have done so much by way of trying to pinpoint this ongoing, enduring issue I have with my car. It is, in short, definite acceleration hesitation, but more than that. The longer the car runs, or runs and drives straight, the worse it gets. It like chokes itself out when attempting to accelerate, if you floor it in this state, the engine can completely die as well and have to turn it off and on again. I have tried a few mass air flow sensor replacements as well as using maf and throttle body cleaner as well as trying to clean the idle air control valve, replaced spark plugs and ignition coils. I wonder still if it is the maf causing this plaguing issue. I perform the maf test where you unplug it and the engine dies. Could it be a pcv valve, vvt solenoid, tps sensor, fuel pump and filter issue? Could it be EGR? Could it all be due to a vacuum leak? Could it be anything at all to do with oxygen sensors? I have no muffler or exhaust or resonator or catalytic converters as they fell off. The most frustrating part is that this issue takes time to show up.
I do already have a throttle position sensor replacement, waiting to install it. I see what it looks like, the silver, moveable part on it. How do I test the current one and what is the adjusting process?
Read through the TPS related portions of your FSM:

I still have the longevity type issue (major to me, I cannot drive long times or distances without it choking out and dying as I described previously) along with bad hesitation of acceleration. The new replacement throttle position sensor I had was most likely a cheap Chinese aftermarket item and was worse because with it installed I had the revving up and down issue after driving for awhile, turning off, then turning back on. I went back to my original one, a Hitachi and that specific revving up and down issue went away - that was new to me. I have replaced the air filter. I possibly suspect the mass air flow sensor is maybe the issue even though no codes and when doing the disconnect while running test it passes - is this a definitive test? I believe the one in there is not a Hitachi and I have cleaned it with the proper CRC cleaner and still have my vexing issue. Has anyone had success with aftermarket, non Hitachi mass air flow sensors? Another thing I have learned with experiencing this issue is if I let it idle for awhile this longevity issue will come rather immediately, after the somewhat long idle. Could this be anything due with the idle air control valve? I will scan for codes later today and share them here. Could a vacuum leak cause my issue? Anything to do with the fuel filter or fuel pump?
Did you replace the MAF housing too, or just the sensor? All the culprits you listed can also play a part in this unfortunately, and with no codes pulled will be difficult to determine. If none are coming up, maybe your ECU is fried (hopefully not)?
Thanks for the reply. So when I first changed out the mass air flow sensor it was with the housing. I do believe now as of a couple days ago my mass air flow sensor is actually bad. I did the pull while running test and it continued to run. I have bought a new one in haste with a warranty and it is on the way - this one is sans housing and unfortunately it is aftermarket. I will see how I fare. I did this because I have encountered a new problem in addition to never resolving my previous explained problem. I cannot hard accelerate without my car engine dying now. I can only lightly accelerate slowly just to be able to maintain normal acceleration without it killing the engine. I pulled codes, I really need to write them down and share them here. I can tell you off hand I have the MAP sensor code, never had a MAF sensor code. I have both bank oxygen sensor codes because I have no exhaust or catalytic converters or resonator under the car. Should I get the dummy oxygen sensors to trick it as I have read about? I also do not have the resonator box from under the hood. And my other code I have is for that long ridiculous name solenoid issue, the swirl valve control solenoid whatever it is. I will pull codes proper and report back. The code descriptions I have just mentioned I have had all along. They are not new. I have no new codes other than the ones I described.
Is it possible that the one upstream bad oxygen sensor I have and get a code for is the culprit for this? The second bad oxygen sensor and code I get is only a downstream one which I think I can ignore as I have no catalytic converters or exhaust pipe.
