Fivespeed...
$32,999 is a great price to buy the Maxima, however your lease deal is not as great. Your total payments are about $17,000 (assuming 39 month lease with 12K mileage), this leaves a residual value for your Maxima at ~49.5%. Nissan Motor Acceptance Corp.'s September buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 39 month lease of a 2010 Maxima SV Sport are .00165 and 57%, respectively.

Hence, that ~7% difference or $2,300 equates to $35,300, or the average price people are paying for 2010 Sport + Tech, which is a $38.5K car.

NOt trying to burst anyone's bubble here, but dealers are sneaky and you must know how to read between the numbers.

I don't think so. I would not pay that much for a new one, and didn't. My deal: 2010 SV premium, mats, splash guards, spoiler, and trunk organizer. $33969.00 plus t,t & t. That is $615.00 below "dealer invoice". Now with the $500.00 cash back ($750.00 on 2009), hold back, floor plan insentives, etc., I know they made money. They have to make money. I bought from the internet manager @ John Lee Nissan in Panama City Florida. I never met him until the day I picked up the car. I did my homework, found several cars I wanted, and when I was ready to buy, I emailed my offer. He realized I had done my research and agreed to my first offer.
I would think one could save another $1000.00 to $1500.00 on a 2009. Don't ask what they will sell you a car for. Decide what you want, do research and tell the dealer what you are willing to pay. There are too many cars out there on the lots to get a bad deal. You can go to Edmonds.com for invoice information. Thanks, Jeff.
That price seems okay but its just a premium no tech, I could have got a Sport/tech for 31,500, but the misses wanted the premium.

I got my 2010 SV Premium+Tech with spoiler, splash guards and floor mats for $34,998 (before tax/title and including freight). Essentially about $1,800 under invoice. The car was practically just off the truck, only had 8 mi on it.

Was that with TTL?

I just stepped into an 09 navy blue S for $26,450 + TTL, which came out to $29,414 OTD.

I just picked up my 09 sept. 25th. Stickered @ 39,600, out the door w/ fees @ 33,000 with spoiler add, floor mats and splash guards.

Also for further notes had a straight premium down to 31,000 but ended up being sold before the dealership could trade for it. That one stickered at 37,800.

I just left my dealer for my oil change and saw a 09 Radiant Silver S for $29,000.00. The dealer was Passport Nissan in Marlowe Heights, Md. I couldn't see how many miles it had, look like it could have been driven by one of the salespersons. It had a 3 inch scratch on the trunk (Ouch)! I would definately bargain that down, but far as that the car looked good.

Fivespeed...
Correct me if I am wrong, but 6 days ago you were boasting about 2010 SV Sport + Tech for $32,999 or $455 a month?? $6K off MSRP???

Now your getting an 2009 SV for $418.26 a month?

Care to explain???

I have the oppurtunity to order a 2010 Maxima SV w/ Premium Package ( no tech ) for 33,177 before ttl and before the $500 rebate. They tried to find the color combo i wanted, black on black (seems like there is none in my area).

Its $1000 below invoice, before the $500 rebate making it $1500 below invoice. Deal seems ok to me. Thoughts? How long should i expect to wait?

Thanks.

Seems like a good deal to me if that price includes $720 destination. Don't count on another $500 off if this price includes destination.

It includes destination. It was more than a verbal quote. I went there yesterday to order after they wasted so much time trying to find the car for me, and they put it all in writing on the order form: (33,177) + (tax, tags, deal processing) - (down payment) - ($500 rebate). I didnt sign because I wanted to think about it, since they said they couldnt put the order in until monday anyway. If its a good deal I'll get them to fax it over so i can sign it.

Im hoping since its in writing they wont go back on their word, b/c of course I wouldnt be obligated to buy the car anymore and they would owe me my deposit.

Guys looking at getting a 2010 Sv. I was told less than 1k down(1st payment and tax and tag) and less than 370 a month. 39 months and 12k a year. I am coming from a 2006 Pathfinder SE lease. I have seen the post and nobody I see has gotten a lease for under 1k down, less than 370 a month for 39 months. Good deal? I was going to have the dealer pay my last payment(370) and give me a SV with premium and spoiler. What o you think? A pipe dream? What are October dealer incentives?

Not exactly sure what you are waiting for, but I would jump on that deal. $37K Maxima for $32.7K. I am not sure why they told you they cannot put the deal in until Monday because once the paperwork is complete, and this is not a plate registration you should be able to finalize it that day.

Xpcgamer...what is the selling price? Does this include destination? Is there a disposal fee? Is there an acquisition fee? Is there a documentation fee? Does this $370 include tax?

I am pretty sure that amount is Tax included. Dealer incentives being what they where in September that is the "quick" of it. I did not negotiate any as I just stopped by. I still need to have my wife drive and see it to even see if she wants it. What would be a good money factor percentage and residual for a an SV with Premium? South florida,Credit score in the high 7's and coming from an exiting Infiniti Finance account.

Xpcgamer...The numbers you are saying are impossible. I'll explain.
1. MSRP = $37,500 (SV + Prem + Dest + Spoiler)
2. Selling Price = $33,000 (assuming a great deal of 12% off sticker)
3. Residual = ~54%, hence you pay ~46%
4. 46% of $33,000 = $15,180
5. $15,180 x 1.06(tax) ~$16,100
6. $370 X 38 = $14,060
7. <$1000 out of pocket = $15,060

When comparing #5 to #7, your deal is $1,000 short, even with a great selling price.

WOW Looks simple the way you put it. I am seeing that Residuals for a 2010 Maxima SV sport is 57% With a money factor of .00165. Does that sound correct? What is the money factor again? Honestly I have never paid attention to that.
Here's where I got that info

Thanks again.

Those are the correct numbers. Money factor is like an interest rate. Money factors can be converted to annual interest rate (APR) by multiplying by 2400 (It is always 2400 and is not related to the length of the loan in months). For example, a money factor of .00165 multiplied by 2400 = 3.96%.

You can check www.leaseguide.com for more info.

Indeed Boone is correct! The residual and money Factor for a 2010 Maxima SV Sport are .00165 and 57%. I would assume a premium would be around the same.

Xpcgamer...using these numbers your deal is mathimatically possible, but imo highly unlikely as the dealer would literally break even.

Sorry for this off-topic question but can't help asking. Is there any way to determine approximately when in the future a leased car's true market value (as obtained from blue/black book) will be greater than or equal to its residual value?

That is, say the lease is for 39 months. Suppose after m months (m<39), the true market value of the car will be $x. Also, suppose the buyout price of the car after m months will be $y. My question is -- how to calculate m for x to be greater than or equal to y? If one can calculate m, he can buyout his leased car and sell it to make a profit instead of continuing till the end of the lease.

Wow...I'll dust off my algebra and calculus notes from the fabulous seventies and see if I can figure that one out!

But seriously, that's a good question. I'll be interested to see the answer.

If you think about it, the value of the car at the end of the lease term should be such that Nissan can sell it at or above the market value in order to make a profit. Otherwise, there would be no need for the additional fees and such associated with buying out a lease or purchasing the car at the end of the lease.

If you do want to try to sell a car at the end of a lease and make a profit, do not lease from the manufacturer's financing arm. You can lease a car through a third party. The catch is that the rates may not be quite as favorable. However, you have to weigh that against what you might make off the car in the future. So, you are taking a gamble when going this route.

Latest round of negotiating. Have received an offer of $35,874 for a '10 SV Premium plus Tech fully loaded (spoiler, mudflaps, mats--in addition, free oil change every 3750 miles for length of loan or lease). Going in tomorrow to see what payments work out to be. I'm thinking that if I can lease for 39 months at $430 or better, I'll go for it. Any thoughts?

Nissan Motor Acceptance Corp.'s September buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 39 month lease of a 2010 Maxima SV Sport are .00165 and 57%, respectively.

Hence, that ~7% difference or $2,300 equates to $35,300, or the average price people are paying for 2010 Sport + Tech, which is a $38.5K car.

NOt trying to burst anyone's bubble here, but dealers are sneaky and you must know how to read between the numbers.
Okay with this in mind, I have been negotiating for a 2010 fully loaded SV Premium + Tech. I have a firm price of $35,874. I would be leasing. The offer made to me is $1,000 down then $478/month (plus they will pay the two remaining payments on my current lease). The lease is written based on 57% residual plus money factor of .00177. I'm inclined to wait the two months, but anyone think there is any wiggle room here? I'd jump if I could get the monthly nut down to $450 or eliminate the downpayment and just sign and drive. MarcNYC...what is the computation knowing the purchase price, residual, and money factor? In your mind what is a reasonable monthy number? Thanks.

JC53...I do not know the residual or money factor for a 2010 Maxima SV Prem + tech for October, but I would assume it is similar to september's numbers.

What are your curent payments now?
Does this selling price and lease price include tax and at what rate?

The residual and money factor they gave you are very good. However, with $1,000 down they are rolling other costs into the lease. There is a $595 acquisition fee + $478 (1st month) + ~$150 in dmv fees, puts you at $1,223. Sometimes they include processing fees, documentation fees, bank fees etc, which can add up too.

All in all I think $478 is too much money. I think you can easily knock that down $20, I would aim for a realistic price of $1,000 down, and $445 a month including tax.

IMO at $478 a month your in G37 territory.

The $478 includes tax at 6.25%. Current payment is $506 (I was nieve when I made my deal on the '07). The $478 is out the door...no other hidden costs to suprise me later. Frankly, I'm probably going to put the "gotta have it now" itch to bed and wait two more months before trading for the '10. Any savings I might realize by getting out of the current lease would be a wash against the $1,000 down. Thanks for your feedback.

What is the formula that I would use to compute the monthly payment knowing the residual, lease money factor and purchase price?
