Help! I'm new here and have a question....
I hear it once in awhile in my 2010. Not frequent or annoying..I figure if it gets worse will take it in to dealer but hate the thought of them pulling dash apart.
Just picked up an '11 3.5 SV w/ Premium, Tech pkgs. yesterday. Only one issue so far: my 1st gen iPod Touch doesn't work using the center console USB port. The songs, playlists, etc. show up when I first plug the iPod in, and it will play the first few seconds of a song, but then it stops and will not play again. Is the 1st gen Touch not compatible? Would it work if I upgraded to a later software version?

I know in the owners manual(2010) it lists what version firmware is needed and what iPod will work. I do not own an iPod so I used a Y-cable for my MP3 player. Hope that helps.
Does anyone know if the Door Chirp was removed for 2011? I am talking about the sound the car is supposed to make when you lock and unlock the doors using the thumb button on the door handle. The manual calls it a buzzer and indicates it should buzz once when unlock and twice when locking. My 2008 Altima behaved exactly like that also. Reason I ask if it was removed is my friend also just bought a 2011 and his is also silent. Cant find any information in the manual or on the net. No settings on the nav unit either.
Press the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously until you see the lights flash. That will bring the chirp back.

I am the proud owner of a new 2011 SV-Sport-Technology Maxima. I have 3 questions.
1) I ordered a sub floor trunk organizer online (Nissan part # 999C2-MV001) and the deepest compartment hits the top of the spare tire and makes it sit about 2” too high. Is there a trick to this that I don’t know about?
2) How do you get the speed limit to show on the GPS map? I have that feature turned on but it never shows. I’ve driven on plenty of main roads and the Interstate highways, but no speed limit info.
3) Lastly, when changing your oil filter, what do you do to keep the old oil from getting all over the car frame that is right below the filter.
Thanks very much for any help.

The wheel you show in that picture isn't a 7th Gen Maxima wheel (at least that I'm aware of).
You could try "US Wheel Exchange" if you want to check out some factory Maxima PVD chrome wheels. They are $pendy though....

Still looking for answers to questions #1 and #3 (see above).
Ill try that again. I tried it once it cancelled and restarted the short horn beep when locking with the remote. I am talking about the small chirp sound when you use the thumb button on the door handle. The manual calls it a buzzer.
Update on #2. I finally saw the speed limit dispalyed today while driving on I40. So I guess there just aren't many areas around here (Nashville) where speed limit info is available. My Garmin unit shows speed limits on about 95% of the roads around here.

I'm no longer new here but I do have a (likely stupid) question about the NAV screen...
I like to drive known routes that I don't need intimate directions using the Status screen. That way I can also see song title AND Artist for my iPod playlists. The simplified route directions at the bottom of the screen are great... distance to next turn, remaining trip mileage and time, etc., but I have to say the blue arrows or lanes stacked along the left side can confuse the heck out of me sometimes when I'm on multi-lane highways. Sometimes they're all straight; sometimes there a combo of straight and turns, sometimes they're different colors...WTF?
Can someone give me a few pointers as to how I should read those dang things? Thx.

iPod question incoming.
I just bought my 2011 SV with monitor package this monday. Everything is great expect this one minor issue and I figured I'd ask here before I run back to the dealership.
I have a 120gb 5th gen iPod that I had been using with my aftermarket Pioneer stereo that was in my RX-8.
It's fully updated on firmware and have never had a problem with it.
It's currently plugged in to the USB port in the center console of my Max.
When I first turn the car on it doesn't recognize the iPod is there. After a few minutes of driving the car will switch from whatever I'm listening to, FM, XM etc. To the iPod interface, and there is every thing and all is well.
I changed iPod cables and also tried my iPhone 4 with the same results. Is this normal?
Thank you for any help.

Ok, all the other forums have this thread for our newer members who have less than 15 posts and can't post a new thread. So, instead of threadjacking someones thread to get your question answered, do it here!
Please tho, search first. It's VERY likely your question has been asked by someone else.

"Trim around the wheelwell opening"
I noticed a 7th gen w/Sport Package (not a 2011) yesterday with color matching trim.
Is this standard on the Sport model and not on the Premium?
My 2010 SV Preimum has no trim around the wheel well openings
.
I did not see a prior thread on this so.............

.I am using 1" wide by 1/2" thick black hard rubber on my white 7th gen Maxima. It is not noticable next to the dark wheel well opening because I sanded the white paint showing inside the wheel well and painted that area black.
No 7th gen Maxima comes with trim around the wheel well openings. When you see such trim, it has been added after purchase. I always apply black hard rubber trim around the wheel well openings of every vehicle I buy so as to reduce the chance of careless drivers damaging my paint by opening their door against my car.

If I may ask, where did you order or buy this trim from?
Almost any auto store either carries this or will order it for you. I have lots of boxes of molding remnants left over from five decades of doing this, so often don't even have to buy new molding. I have bought black rubber molding from places like Advance Auto, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, Carquest, NAPA, etc, etc. Any big auto detailing shop should have molding on hand.
The size doesn't have to be anything in particular. I like 1" wide because it doesn't look as wimpy as narrower trim, but can still be curved around the opening. Wider molding gets harder to bend, and doesn't stay on quite as well. Any thickness from 1/4 inch up should work, although anything over a half inch thick might not look 'cool' with the smooth style of the 7th gen Maxima.
I load my wife's trucks down with molding, including very wide and thick side molding. I work very hard to trim the molding very neatly, in order to give an 'OEM' look.

Hello 1st post here.
I have been some reading on here and there is great info! Im picking up a left over 2010 sv for my wife on Monday. We are trading in a 07 Tahoe in hopes of saving some $ due to the gas prices. Her job requires her to have lengtly travel times. The talk about $90 oil changes at 3750 miles and 93 oct fuel have me a tad worried. We care nothing about high performace. I hoping she will be fine with 87 oct and normal 5-30 oil change? I went to the dealer planning to get an altima but she fell in love with the maxima. The Tahoe averaged about 15-16 mpg real world on hwy, can i expext to get 10 more mpg out of the Maxima? Also the Tahoe had a oil monitering system and we could get 6,000 miles out of an oil change due to all the hwy miles and few start and and stops. Can we extend the maxima to 6,000 on reg oil and gas if its mostly hwy miles? Also are there any updates to things to look for in this maxima, it only hase the cold package. Thanks for the help!

Here is a link to the 2010 Owner's manual to help you answer some more of your questions.

Imago Del - Both Nissan dealers I use automatically put 5W30 Shell dino oil in on every oil change without even asking. This meets all warranty requirements. Especially for highway driving, dino is great. I once used nothing but dino in a Maxima for 206,000 miles in Atlanta commuter traffic, and not only had zero engine problems, but saw that car still tooling around town several years after letting it go.
In 2010, Nissan changed the 'premium required' warning to 'premium recommended.' Midgrade is close enough to premium that I have run midgrade after the first 18 months on every Maxima I have owned (have owned nothing but Maximas since Oct 1984). Nissan says we can use regular in the '10 and '11 Maximas, but that this will result in measurable performance reduction. With midgrade, I have not been able to detect any performance reduction. Your wife may do OK with regular, but make sure there is not even a hint of pinging, etc.
I would still recommend oil changes at each 4K or so miles with dino, even with mostly highway miles. With a synthetic blend, I would not hesitate to go 5K to 6K mostly highway miles between changes, and, with a full synthetic oil, I see no problem with maybe 7K mostly highway miles.
Whenever you find a few moments, scan this board and you will pick up on the things going on with your Maxima.
Welcome aboard!

My connection is flakier than yours it seems. The whole reason I wanted the monitor package was the supposedly great iPod interface. I'm taking it to the dealership today to get it looked at. I'll post whatever they find.
I just purchased a 2010 Maxima, but I cant for the life of me figure out what model I have? I believe from searching the forum that the Maxima S is a base model, and the SV is the premium w leather, and other options?
Another question is I have noticed that my car does not have the side view mirror turn signals on the actual mirror as other Maximas Ive seen do have.
Also I have noticed it has the inserts on the front bumper for the fog lights, but no actual lens for the fogs but rather a plastic cover?
I have leather interior along with sunroof, and dual power front and passenger seats so Im confused as to what model I actually have...

You have an 'S' with leather special ordered by the dealer. Every level above the 'S' has the LED turn signal lights on the outside rear view mirrors.
These are the four levels:
S
SV
SVwith Sport package
SV with Premium package.
Various technical/navigation packages are either unavailable, available or included with each of those levels.

I am averaging 20-21 in town and around 26 on the highway. Wish I could get 28 MPG on the highway like some posters claim. When I am on the highway I even put the tranny in manual and put the tranny in 6th gear after I am up to cruising speed. Keep in mind that I usually do 70-75 MPH on the highways here in and around Washington DC.
