Check page 4-126 in the manual. You can also dial numbers from it using the car's ability to read the handset phonebook. You'll need to make sure the serial port for the bluetooth connection enabled.

2010 Maxima with USB Problem

Has anyone with a 2010 experienced any problems with the USB connection?

I have had my car 2 days now and have had only limited success with the USB Ipod interface.

The Ipod starts out playing just fine but about 20-25 minutes into my trip I get a message telling me to connect to the USB. I am using a 2nd generation Ipod Touch.

Each time I disconnected the Ipod and then reconnected to the USB. The Ipod will not play through the interface at that point.

Several hours later I reconnected and had no problem. This has happened to me two times so far.

Hidden feature

Ok I have found something on the driver info screen that neither I nor the sales people can figure out what it is or what it is for.

On the dash board below the speedometer the driver info screen has several choices. If you go to Options there is a setting called "Dial Effects" Does anyone know what this is??? The only settings for it is (Off/On).

I would post a pic but I am having trouble getting it to work.

Dial effects is the setting that when you start the car, the dials swing all the over to the max and back as sort of "test", when you start the car.

Wow thanks for the link I will search next time. They should have put that under Settings>Comfort and Convenience.
But why on earth would you want to turn that off. That is one of the cool things about the Maxima. I don't think any of the other Nissan's do that, except maybe the GTR.

I could not get mine to work for my At&T Tilt, so I just hand entered in my most important 30 numbers and forgot about it.

Ya thats what I ended up doing, but just found it weird. It would work with a year+ old kenwood bluetooth module, but not with the maxima's BT. Weird!

My current phone (sony ericsson 7 something something) had big issues getting the contact list to transfer. It would not do it from the 'copy phonebook' or whatever in the nav menu. I had to go to my address book and click the update phonebook button in order for it to work. any other way just wouldn't work. weird.

Poor Randomize on CompactFlash Reader

My 09 Max has had no problems taking a 16GB CompactFlash, and I had no problems copying my entire CD library (about 4300 songs) from my PC to the memory card. The CF is even smaller and lighter than my iPod, and less likely to get broken or stolen.

The reason I am posting, though, is that the music randomize capability doesn't seem to work very well, in two different areas.

First, after switching to the CF reader and the song list is loaded, it always starts with the first song from the first album. The RPT/RND setting switches to "CF Card Repeat" setting, even though I always reset it to "CF Card Random" every time I use it.

Second, the randomize capability doesn't seem to work very well. Again, with the number of songs on there, my iPod indicates 15 days of music without a repeat. However, every time I use the CF, I seem to hear the same set of songs over and over again. (What makes it annoying is that most are from my wife's CD collection.) I can keep skipping songs, but after a while, it seems like it just doesn't randomize properly.

Does anyone else have any thoughts/experiences with the same?

At 4300 songs, it sounds as if you've exceeded the amount of files on the CF card that the Max is able to recognize. Check the Audio section of the User's Manual for a specification chart that gives all kinds of CF card (and CD) limitations: number of files, number of folders, number of levels of folders, etc.

I suspect that may have something to do with the behavior you're seeing.

Swapping non-homelink for homelink mirror

I have an 06 Maxima as a company car. I also have just ordered my new 2010 Maxima to replace it. My company requires me to order the base car. I would like to take the homelink mirror from my 06 and place in the 10, which surprisingly doesn't come with homelink on the base S model anymore.

My question is...will the harness and plug on the non-homelink 2010 mirror be the same as for the 06 homelink mirror, or does it require extra wiring?

Thanks.

I am curious to know if other people have experienced or heard of the issues I am currently encountering on my 2009 Maxima:

1.) Rattles from the center console when engine in accelerating or hovering at mid rpm range or road becomes rough.
2.) Rattles from sunroof area while cruising at varying speed on all roads. Occasionally it sounds like the roof metal is hitting the frame? It seems to be more prevalent when the sunroof is open.
3.) Going over speed bumps or any road undulations, no matter what speed, causes the rear suspension to make a noisy decompression popping noise.

I plan on taking my car in to the dealership shortly but would like to get some feedback from you if you have heard of or experienced similar issues or can point me to a TSB that may address one of these issues.

Thanks.

I hear lots of "thuds" from either the back of the car or roof. Sometimes at low speeds over seemingly flat road, often when backing up and turning. Sometimes with bumpy roads as well at any speed. The kids insist from the trunk area though to me it sometimes sounds like the roof. This is my one HUGE complaint with an otherwise excellent car. I suppose I need to take it to dealer but after reading all these messages of dealers not providing much of any service I am currently not up for the hassle I am about to endure.

Like Easter Eggs? None so far that I've seen reported. Some of the features have limited information but, so far, all have been in one of the three manuals.

Have you looked in the trunk to make sure everything is secure (spare, jack, etc?) I experienced the same as you only to find out my fire extinguisher wasn't quite as secure as I thought. A VERY small bit of expanding foam insulation resolved that.

I did remove any items from truck, did not check spare or jack however, and still heard the noise. It sounds more like loud creaks and I swear moves around the cabin. Seems to happen most when both wheels are jarred. Meaning if I just go over a pot hole or something dont ever hear it. But sometimes backing up on smooth parking lot I will, going over gravel road I will a lot. It is rather loud and drives me crazy. I have even thought its something to do with the sunroof. it does not sound like its coming from another part of the car, but rather something in the cabin making the noise. Its really the only blemish in an otherwise terrific car.

There is the secret Diagnostic mode on the NAV unit.

Here is what you do, but if you screw up something don't blame me.

Follow these steps to enter [at your own risk] into the diagnostic mode:

- Start Engine [required if you want to see all available diagnostic options]
- Turn OFF the Audio system
- While pushing the SETTING button, rotate the radio's VOLUME control either clockwise or counter-clockwise 30+ clicks.
- You will then be put into the diagnostic mode.
- Use the BACK button to get to previous screens.
NOTE:
Holding down the SETTING button and rotating the volume **** a 2nd time will put the diagnostic mode into a more "detailed" state offering more options.

NAV questions

1. Anybody know how to save an address as a name instead of just a street address? I would like to save Wrigley Field (home of the Cubs) as "CUBS" and not a street address.

2. How do I save a spot as a favorite? A friend lives in a small town, which the NAV can't give me guidance towards, yet it shows all of his street names just fine - really weird. Anyway, I'd like to just park in front of his house and save his location on the NAV with his name (same as question #1 above).

3. If you've paid to apply the very latest NAV CD updates, please type in Rosemont, IL and let me know if the NAV can find anything (i.e. hotels, gas stations, etc.) in this town. This is a very old suburb by O'Hare airport (2nd biggest airport in the US - based out of Chicago, IL) and yet the NAV says it can't give me guidance within this burb - but it does show me all streets just fine. This really irritates me since this burb is older than my little town, and yet I can navigate anywhere in my town just fine. Hell, my street just got put in 6 years ago and yet my NAV can give you guidance to my house just fine. I swear, I never have any of these navigation issues with my 5 year old Garmin.

4. Do we have any NAV voice choices besides the gal that's talking? Just wondering if there's another screen where I can select a different voice.

Thanks

Basically it's all in the Navagation manual. Rather than typing out all the instructions. I will list page numbers.

Answer for #1. Page 6-17

Answer for #2 Page 6-5

Answer for #3 I have not done the update. So I can't help you.

Answer for #4 She is the only voice we have. I call her Anna.

Here is where you can download all of the manuals online to use on your computer from Nissan.

2010 Handset Phonebook

Just purchased my 2010 Maxima with Sport and Tech package. I synced up my HTC Touch Pro and my Handset Phonebook was downloaded. It displayed exactly like it is in my phone which is Last Name, First Name. However, when entering the car a day later and my phone auto-connecting, my phonebook was now showing First Name, Last Name. I did not make any changes to my phone prior to getting back into my car that day and still have not. However, my phonebook has since gone back to Last Name, First Name. I really would prefer First Name, Last Name. Does anyone know why this happened or how to change it back and forth?

Vehicle Information Display

Does anyone know how to reset the display that is under the speedometer? I reset the MPG display on the Nav screen but cannot figure out how to reset the other display. Is this a dealer reset only?

How's it going fellas... Currently own a 97 maxima and about to trade it in for an 09. I have a nice set of rims for the 97 which I want to put on the 09.

Rims are: 19" 5Zigen 5zr Copse in Black Chrome (Hyperblack)

I saw that the lug pattern (114.3x5) is the same b/w the two maximas, but I'm a little worried about offset and width of the rims. I believe the rim size I currently have are 19x8 (rear) and 19x7.5 (front) and an offset of 43mm. I also saw that the stock 19s on the sport package max are 19x8.5, which might pose a problem.

Does anyone know the exact offset for the 7th gen max? Will these rims fit there nicely, or will they look outta place? I can probably change the tires to the same spec as the sport package 19s and can add shims to change the offset.

Thoughts?

UPDATE: Found this site: http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

It will give me exactly what I'm looking for. What I still need to know though, is what is the offset for the 2009 stock nissan maxima 19" rims? I'm trying to match that look as much as possible.

The exact offset for the 7th gen Maxima 18" wheels is 50mm, and I am almost positive the offset is also 50mm for the 19" wheels.

I'll let someone here who has replaced their OEM stuff answer the question of whether your proposed setup will be fine.

Another question I had (and yes, I searched)...

I'm trying to put an aftermarket Navi/Sound System in there mostly because I don't like the factory nav or the bose. I saw on cruthfield that they have an adapter for a double din for the 09 maxima. Does this replace the monitor, or does it replace the radio controls part?

I think it would look pretty ugly if you had 2 monitors in there, but will have to make it work, I guess. I also assume that you can't really replace the factory monitor because it contains the air conditioning information.

Also, is there a place where I can see what speaker sizes fit in the car?

You are the first person I've heard of not liking the factory navigation. Is there anything in particular that you do not care for? I do agree that the Bose could be a lot better. I'm okay with the highs but it just does not have enough going for it at the low end. I thought I could deal with it but it is starting to really annoy me.

HEY TO ALL! NEW TO THE FORUM JUST HAD A QUESTION..I HAVE THE NEW 09 MAXIMA AND MY QUESTION WAS HAS ANYONE PURCHASED STEEL RIMS FOR WINTER MY TIRE SIZE 245-45-28. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY ONLY HAVE 17 IN STEELS THAT IT WILL NOT WORK ON MY 09 AND THAT I CAN ONLY USE ALLOYS . IS THAT TRUE OR IS THE DEALERSHIP JUST TRYING TO GET MORE CASH OUT OF ME SINCE THE STEELIES ARE CHEAPER.

Since I live in the sunny south, I know nothing of the travails of trying to pilot a Maxima through snow. But your dealer is not totally correct.

He may be right about steel wheels for passenger cars topping out at 17". I have heard that before. But that is good, and what you need, because winter tires typically have higher sidewalls, and using the 17" wheels leaves room for those slightly higher sidewall tires under the fenders.

But I feel he is wrong about steel wheels not working on the Maxima, because there are posters here who are doing exactly that. You will lose the Tire Pressure Monitoring System with steel wheels, but for a few winter months, that should not be a big issue. One hitch is that you may have to pay the dealer to reset your Tire Pressure Monitoring System when you put your alloys back on next spring. I will let the Yankees here fill you in on the details of switching to steel wheels for winter.

As an aside, there are those here on the ORG who consider posts in all capital letters to be the equivalent of shouting, so don't be surprised or take offense if someone asks you to 'lower your voice.'

Lightoverthehorizon, I agree with you on the sidewall thing but you are talking about making up 2 inches. that is alot more sidewall. You would have to go with wider rims and tires. not sure the width of stock 09 rims and tires but know my 6th is 18 X 8 1/2. so if your stock rims are 19 X 8 1/2, then you might have to go 17 X 9 1/2 or 10 to support a higher sidewall without making it look like a balloon is wrapped around the rim. Remember you drive a car not a truck. Reading what I wrote is a bit hard to understand, but I don't know how else to put it. Don't settle for a lower profile tire, especially during the winter. Wider rims and tires are also a plus during the winter. More rubber to the ground.

Actually, the wheel/tire size on all S, SV, and SV + Premium package '09 and '10 Maximas is 18". Only the Sport (probably 10% of the production) has 19". The poster asking the question has 18", so the steel wheels would only be one inch smaller. It is far better to have extra room between the tire and the wheel well in the winter, in case chains need to be installed. Also, the rear wheel wells on the Maxima are lined with fuzzy sound deadning material that tends to pick up and hold ice, and several here have had that ice accumulate to the point it rubbed against the tires. We definitely don't want to fill these wheel wells in the winter time.

not true... you do not want a wider tire, creates crushing of snow, turns into ice, loss of traction.

you want regular width tires or slightly less, more agressive tread, and a higher sidewall.

crushing of snow is inevitable unless you have a hovercraft. It will happen regardless. I agree with agressive tread. Tread design is critical for traction not sidewall height. I have low profile tires that I use in the winter that worked awesome. I tried using chains and cables. Cables are way better than chains, but don't work that great. When I drove without the chains and cables I did just fine. Just find the right tread design and you should be fine. Sidewall height is for comfort of the ride. The higher the sidewall, the more cushiony the ride, the bigger the possibility of a sidewall blowout. I am no tire "expert", these are just my opinions based on my experiences. If you are riding on stock 18's as lightleftoninthehouse said, then I recommend Continental Extreme All Season tires if you live in a 4 season area like Washington state.

question on Bluetooth Phone

For whatever reason, after I finally connected my phone, and added contacts WITH voicetags, I would think I could simply say 'Call Home' and it would dial my house - it always worked with way with my Infiniti - same system. Yet, it does NOT ...

Anyone else experienced this problem? And, how did you fix it?

Thanks, in advance!

I don't do a lot of calling from the car, but when I do it is indeed the "Call Home, Call Bride, Call Mistress etc" and works well. Just to determine the "situation" is the system connecting via bluetooth to your instrument and trying to dial but is unsucessful, or is it not responding to voice commands at all?

I actually had some initial problems pairing my phone as the instructions on Nissan's site do not show 2010 yet, so I used the 2009 instructions - yet, I had to do it 'backwards' so to speak and let my phone find the car rather than the traditional way of the car finding the phone.

In any event, once it's synced, I was able to make/receive calls, and I do have Alternate Voice Command set to ON for voice recognition, but it just does not recognize the commands, even after doing all the 'training' of my voice. Very strange .. I say "call home", and it just does not understand!!! Very frustrating!

Strange...do any voice commands (I'm going out on a limb here and assuming you have the Nav Package) work?
