Driver seat loose?

When I come to a stop or speed up quickly I feel the seat move fwd or back slightly like a table on an uneven floor. What can I check/replace/tighten to make that stop? It is driving me crazy.

Thanks

Matt, unless you have a user friendly dealer you'll more than likely have to live with it or pay to have the seat replaced. I had a 2010 Murano and it had 2 seat issues that were both fixed under warranty in 2013.

Later, when I got my 2010 Maxima in 2015, which I had an extended warranty on I was told that the rocking seat issue wasn't covered. My Maxima doesn't rock as bad as the Murano did but it's noticeable.

Thanks! Super bummer to hear this and sad now that the last owner hasn't completed the 100K warranty transfer to me and likely never will.

So it's a broken seat? Any idea roughly what a new one will cost?

There are several long threads that discuss this same issue.

I seem to remember one that documents the replacement seat rail part number.

In Canada the warranty moves with the vehicle, not the previous owner.

I asked my dealer and they told me $1300.00. I laughed and left.

The bad part about these cars is that because they're still relatively new you don't see them in the pick n pull yards. I only see them in the foreign/luxury car yards that charge way too much for the parts. I've only seen one 7th gen Maxima in a junkyard and that was when I lived in California, and it was stripped bare in a weekend.

The seat is covered under extended warranty. I had mine done and I'm thinking about doing it again before my warranty is up. The fix helped for a little while.. The dealer just has to enter the right part number. there is a thread around here somewhere with that information. maybe look for posts by me..

found it.. So my Service advisor was able to find the part to get this fixed. Its part number 87351-9N24B

tell your dealer to enter that part number and it should be covered under warranty. your dealer will be happy, because its a $1300.00 repair for them..

you should also check the lights in your side mirrors. Those go out to.. and are covered under warranty.. I just had both of mine replaced last night. it would of cost $1100.00 but only cost me $50.

its not up to the prevus owner to do that.. I think, you just have to send a check to cover the transfer. Transfer paper is in the back of the manual and can probably be found online.

I got this replaced under the original 36,000 mile warranty. Local dealer replaced the entire seat + track. Cost was $1600 covered for free.

this was an additional 100K warranty and bc of that I thought it was. Also saw something on a form that he originally sent that it all had to be done within 15 days. I guess I could try def worth it. thanks

Does anyone know what the actual problem part is? Just replacing the part isn't an option for those out of warranty. If we know what the problem part is, maybe we can find a fix for it. Thanks.

I have developed the same problem I am not sure what the "fix" is or even if there is one... atleast from nissan./dealer! There is another thread discussing this....

link: https://maxima.org/forums/7th-genera...ix-nissan.html

hopefully this weekend i will try to find time to investigate & see if I can create a solution.

Thanks 2011_maxima. I am familiar with that thread. However, it seems that the swapping of seats even under warranty does not address the issue all the time. I'm going to take out my seat when the weather gets better here to see if I can figure it out, but before knowing the fix, it would be helpful to know what the actual problem is. In the thread you linked, someone wrote that it seems to be a weak bracket. I'm not sure what that means. Does a bracket crack? Is there too much play somewhere? Is there a gear where the cogs don't really hold?

I tried someone's suggestion to lower the seat all the way, and that actually worked--no movement. However, that doesn't seem like a solution. This, however, seems to indicate that there may be some way for those of us who have really old maximas to be able to reinforce the components somehow, and do away with the rocking seat problem.

My Sienna also has some fore-aft movement, but no way does it feel like the maxima. The maxima does not inspire any driving confidence, especially in braking. The sienna movement I do not feel at all under normal driving.

pastaben,
I provided the link to help with more related info, for this thread as well as in case this thread was started w/o the existing thread knowledge (only for help not a critic/complaint ). I tried to look at the seat situation a little this past weekend & it is weird because the seat DOES NOT move when pulled/pushed or "yanked" on.... hhhmmmm???. I agree in that I am not sure a new bracket would be a solution as also lowering the seat is a "fix". My initial guess is that it is something related to the actual seat & the attachment to said bracket/brace? is wearing out? anyway I hope that the car model & previous owners are not so old that it is not an "issue" anymore... but I am beginning to think that there is not a "solution" for this....

good luck & hopefully we can get a fix.

thanks!

HI Mattz, I had the same issue about 2 years ago. I would feel the seat move about an inch when accelerating. Took it to the dealer and after finally realizing there was a problem they "fixed". They couldn't fix the problem so they changed the whole seat. Apparantly, they have no fix. I asked what happens if ti happens again. I was told as long as you have a warranty we will change it . Back then it was about $1800 for everything.
Since then some people have come up with a fix. Go through the posts and try and find what it is.This is a known problem.
Good luck!
