Navi version delima

I have 2016 sr. Last night driving around downtown, was not at best, kept re routing. I had to give up and use my trusted gmap.
Today looked at map version, and it say dodo version is 13-14. What the heck is goinig around ? Is this common among others as well?
And last, did you take this dodo navi to dealer?

After reading all the links, I think I will stay away from map upgrade. Thanks @RickSmith

Yep. The navi maps are maybe the greatest sore point of the 8th gen Maxima. Most 8th gen Maximas come with outdated navi maps, and it can be expensive to get an updated version, and expensive to have the new version installed by the dealer. Both Nissan and their dealers are in business to make a profit, but this is an untactful and very bothersome way to do it.

But I still love my Maxima, and am constantly making up excuses to crawl in and head out to, as Mean Mary James sings, 'To the shores of anywhere.'

Here is a case where "Outstanding would get in the way of Good Enough" Skip the upgrade! I am in hog heaven with my Max nav especially coming from at non touch screen Acura which was basically non functional dash dressing.

Yeah, great stuff there, esp. if you have the phone burn time. I have had absolutely no prob. yet with my nav. Gets me where I'm going whether Wisconsin, Fl., or in between. First time she lets me down I'll upgrade, but now you guys have me wondering if I can DIY without hosing my system, or even letting dealer do it........and hose my system.

You do realize that the vast majority of us that did the update, did so with no problems at all? Someone who had a problem is drastically more likely to post here.

*Which* update?

My dealer attempted THREE times on my car - and failed. Was on with Nissan Tech Line and got nowhere. Ordered a new nav unit - which had same old (13-14) maps.

Also attempted on other owners' cars before giving up.

So either a) I was too early (I wasn't), b) Tech Line are a bunch of imbeciles (possible), or c) there is a bigger problem.

I totally understand that your experience was very frustrating.

The latest maps update for the 2016 Maxima is user installable - no need to involve your dealer. It's no problem at all to install as long as you're patient. Don't get worried if it seems to be sitting there for a long time - just let it run until done.

Yes, quite a few here have bought the update and installed it themselves. But there is quite a bit of removing and reinstalling the old and new cards, and if we allow any interruption of the power to the unit, things come to a messy end.
