Issues playing music from USB drive?

I have a 2018 Maxima and I've had issues playing music from a USB drive. I've tried 2 different ones and had the same problem. Music will be playing and then it will skip or stop randomly. Then what happens is strange. It basically makes my entire radio non workable when this happens. None of the buttons will work. I can press them and nothing happens. I have to pull out the USB drive and give it a few minutes for the radio to work again.

I assume that the format of the USB drive isn't the problem. It does work. It just chooses not to at times. Plus, I've used this same USB drive in an aftermarket radio in my last car and I never once had an issue.

Because of this, I have copied all of my music to my phone to play it via Bluetooth, but I prefer the USB drive so everything shows up on the radio and I can navigate through the music that way.

Any ideas?

And on and on.

Just search USB in the 8th generation forums and you will get more information than you will ever need.

My bad. Read your post before my first cup of coffee.

I had the problem of the radio not connecting to bluetooth occasionally but it would always work when I took it to the dealer. The service manager suggested I call Nissan and submit a case therefore have a case number for the dealer to reference and get the radio replaced. I did and they did and the radio was replaced. Works perfectly now except the problem with the USB drive skipping around and restarting. I tried to listen to audio books using the USB drive and it would often restart at the beginning of the book. As you have done I now just have the books on my phone and listen to them through the radio via the bluetooth media player.

One advantage of using the phone is that if you have multiple vehicles you always restart where you left off in the other vehicle.

Yeah, i'll just stick with the Bluetooth option I suppose. I just hadn't seen anyone else mention their radio bugging out as well.

Plugging in an old iPhone or iPod touch also works well. After all the troubles with USB, I tried hooking up an old iPod touch and it has worked flawlessly ever since

I don't use those, but thanks for the reply. I have searched in the past and I knew people had some USB issues, but I didn't know it was that bad. This is definitely something that I will consider when my lease is up for my 2018 Maxima. As much as I love the car, music is a must and it's making it more difficult.
