That’s only the cvt fluid. Tech says it was still ok. I

There is someone that has 130k. Same year.
No cross-country. Just NorCal and SoCal.

How many of you change oil at the dealership?

I changed only once because it was free and still had 4 more but I didn’t bother. They didn’t replaced filter at first oil change. I have marked the original filter when I bought the car. . And checked it after oil change.. same filter. I didn’t complain or anything I just went out bought mobil1 and order Nissan filter online and did it myself

phew, that's what I thought but wasn't sure. My Hyundai auto trans died at 130k so it certainly seemed possible.
I thought the trans fluid should be every 60, or even 30. Is there any harm in doing it more often? I think I'd like to shoot for the low end of what's required and try to avert any problems down the road.

I've owned two Gen 8 Maxima's since they came out - a 2016 Platinum and a 2017.5 Platinum. The 2016 had an issue with the tranny (dirt in the fluid causing hesitation at acceleration - Dealer changed the valve body plate and replaced fluid - Problem Cleared, covered by Warranty), and an occasional forgetfulness of the Seat Memory. I put 45K on her in two years with no additional issues. I traded her in for the 2017.5 and have 30K on her already with zero issues.

It seems those moldings had a bad design, just checked mine and they are loose. Will take it to the dealer on the next oil change. Hope they don't give me a hard time to change it under warranty.

shouldnt be a problem. I noticed mine was loose, hadn't even fallen off yet. Told the dealer about it and they gave me a brand new one.

Tires still have plenty of tread, surprisingly. I get a rattle from under the car at highway speeds under certain circumstances, just haven't had it investigated yet because it only happens when the wind blows strongly from the driver's side.
I currently have a 2017 Maxima S with 18,900 miles. I had a 2016 that I traded in for it. I had the same problem with the rattling at highway speeds on windy days with both models. Took car to dealership 3 times and they finally identified and fixed the problem. Service manager placed himself in backseat and listened to the rattle. We both originally thought the rattle was coming from inside the door panel. Not the case. IT WAS COMING FROM THE ROCKERS!! They took the Rockers back off the car and found a gap where airflow could get through. Technician put double stick foam tape on top side of Rockers and reattached to car. Rattle is GONE!!! If you have any questions, contact Service Department at Joe Machens Nissan in Columbia, Missouri.

I traded because my 2016 got hit (not my fault) and I did not want a damaged car anymore. Once a car is damaged in accident, they're never the same. That's just the way I feel. Nissan dealership was also running a 0% financing on the 2017, so I traded in for it! I just wanted to join the forum to let the Maxima owner know about how to fix the rattling problem he was hearing underneath the car. As I stated, it was the rockers. Double stick foam tape fixed the problem. NO MORE RATTLE!!! Hope this helps. Thanks.

Well said. We do appreciate your info on the noise from the rocker panels and the fix!

Coming up on 5000 miles on my 18 maxima. I'm gonna make an appt for an oil change, but it seems kinda ridiculous to change synthetic oil every 5 thousand miles. In my camry, I changed the oil every 10 thousand miles and even at 10 thousand miles, the oil was as clean as can be. I know toyota reliability is generally greater than nissan, but still..

2017 45K.

5 cross county trips.

Oil change every 5K-6K

Engine air filter @30k

Replaced viper blades

Brakes are fine but squeaking but it seems like a common issue with Maxima’s OEM brakes.

Rattles there and there but it’s nothing to do with mechanicals
And that’s about it.

111k miles 2017 Maxima SR Midnight. Mostly all highway miles as I commute 60 miles 1 way. The only thing outside of preventative maintenance is I had to replace the driver front and back wheel bearing assemblys last week.

I have done an oil change every 10k-12k miles using only amsoil signature series and filters. Transmission fluid change at 60k and 110k and new spark plugs at 110k. Will likely be changing out the brake pads soon. Went to a K&N lifetime filter so I don't have to keep changing them.

I do have a slight growl that's been around awhile. Only happens between 20-30mph and stops after that and things I have read it sounds like normal CVT noise but I could be wrong. Just annoying if you don't have the radio on.

Overall it has been good.

Same here , I tink one synthetic oil change every 5k is a ripoff.

2016 SR with 49,839. Only problem was the driver's seat wobble at 32k miles. It was fixed under warranty (replaced seat frame). I believe there is a TBS on this. I gotta say, reading through the rest of these posts, there seems to be a pattern. Some owners report having a lot of issues, whereas other owners report having barely any issues at all. It makes me question what's (possibly) coming down the road as mileage and age increase. I did buy a Nissan extended bumper-to-bumper warranty at 32k, so I'm covered for just about anything. However, it does make me wonder if my 8th Gen is gonna have the same longevity as my 5th gen (2002 SE), which I traded at 204k miles.

I plan on keeping this car for a long time and I just want to get a safe state of mind that I made a good investment.

Thanks!
I have a '16 SV and I just passed the 103,000 mark. Everything is working just fine. I stay on top of my general maintenance, oil changes, tire rotations, filter changes, etc. so I don't allow small issues to become big ones. I'll probably do a radiator, brake, and transmission flush soon, just for precaution. This baby is mine, so taking care of her is a priority. I've done A LOT of mods...intake, exhaust, wheels, lights, audio, cosmetics, so getting rid of her is not an option. I expect to get at least another 150k before serious work is needed.

Wow, I see some impressive numbers here. 103k, 130k ... I traded my 2005 SL in at 137k miles but I paid a lot of money in repairs past 100k, even though I did do regular maintenance. AC vaporizer, AC condenser, some weird steering relay, etc. Either bad luck, or build quality has improved substantially in the last 15 years.

I use only Mobil1 extended performance with m1 extended performance oil filter M1-108A( they say up to 15K miles between oils changes). But I never passed over 10K still changing it every 5-6K.

I just changed oil this morning maybe I should try to drive it for 10K.

This Mobil1 extended performance is the most expensive oil M1 makes. ( Btw everyone if you visit Advanced Auto Parts you can get the combo deal 35 bucks before taxes for M1 extended performance 0w-20 and 108A filter ) I believe oil itself is like $45

Where do you get your Amsoil?

I just order it from amsoil's website. Same price as I have seen in some stores. I have never trusted M1 EP honestly. Any tests I have seen it barely meets standard for API certification and that certification already has pretty low standards.

I have used the M1-110A filter quite a bit. It's a little bigger than the 108A but has more filtration than the 108A with the same threading.

Dows anyone else have an growling at low RPMs under load?

130,000 Miles, minimal issues

Just turned over 130k on my 2017 platinum. I’ve had to replace the sonar sensor, rear suspension, and sway bar. I drive it hard. It’s made two cross-country trips. 100+mph for hours on end through Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona. Best car I’ve owned. Too bad they’re discontinuing after 2023.

I have a low growl, but only because I did a muffler delete. Engine sounds too good for them to neuter it with mufflers.
