00'vi or DE-K?

Hey, guys, I am in a little dilemma here. What is better to do 00'vi or just swap in a low mileage DE-K motor? Whats the benefit of DE-K and what would I have to modify to put it in or is it just a direct drop in? My engine has around 110k miles, so I am thinking... Any help is appreceated(?).Thank you!!!

P.S. Don't tell me too put in 3.5-give me $$$ for it. It will come next, later

00vi

Your engine is too young to swap out.

More aggressive CAMS? Smoother? Younger? More tolerant to abuse?

What would I have to to do to live the stock ECU. or it is better to put the one from 2000-2001? What else would I have to change? And would the y-pipe bolt straight on?Thank you.

Hmmmmm. No more than 5hp from those cams. 110k is hardly any on a VQ30. But that is just my opinion, if you want to swap engines, go ahead.

i would go with the 00vi. Kevlo is right 110k is still fresh for a VQ30 unless if you were abusing it and were not maintaining it. I have 140 on my motor and i was thinking that if i could find a cheap Dek i would swap if i cant then i will just do the 00vi.

Thats the same thing I figured. I have 140K on my 96 VQ-DE. I purchased a DEK for $590 from a 2001 with only 8,500 miles. Cant beat that price and mileage. My plan was to just put the 00VI on.

maybe put in a DEK and then sell the DE to offset some of the cost. I've seen DEKs for $400 with 55k miles. You could still sell a 110k mile DE for at least $200 or if you have the ability to tear it down, maybe make more than that and do some learning in the process.

Dek swap info

alright I have around 215K on my de. I purchased an 01' dek for $500 with 56K on it. well the motor was only 250 but then shipping and I paid a friend a little for finding it. anway what you have to do on the cali spec(01) motors is take out the swirl valves from the lower intake manifold. Then jb weld the holes. which is all pretty easy. to do that you will have to take the upper intake manifold off. when putting the lower back on you are going to have to buy new gaskets for it. if you want/need to buy the gasket for the upper, you can but its rubber and its in good shape you could re use it. but its cheap to buy so why not. you are going to want to use the exhaust manifolds from your de therefore the y pipe will bolt right up. and when you do that you are going to have to buy exhaust manifold gaskets. after you get the dek in your car, you are going to use the existing harness that you did not take out of your car when you took the de out! thats where you can use your same ecu, in my case is the t/s ecu!! yay! with the dek and the de wiring harness you have to cut the existing clips off and wire the dek clips onto the harness so the plug up. I believe when you wire them up its stripe to stripe and solid to solid. now under the throttle body is the iacv? maybe I dont know for sure but it has to come off and a plate needs to be made for the bottom of the tb. There is some stuff on the dek that doesnt need to be used, tho im not exactly sure what all that is. I am doing this swap on fri so if any of this is wrong let me know. but from all the research ive done, im pretty sure thats what needs to be done.

^^( ) - Your just about ready to swap matt!

the average recycler will give about $.40/lbs for the metal/aluminum. You could throw in the DEK and if you have about 200lbs thats $80. PLus you should be able to sell the coils pretty easily, maybe the KS for cheap, etc.

Yeah Im really excited! I have a whole exhaust waiting to get welded on saturday afternoon after I get the motor in! Im just hoping its a good motor and nothing fell inside the valves while ive been working around it...lol. Im leaving for Liberty University on Aug 14 for school and thats an 8 hr drive to Virginia so im hoping I get everything worked out before then so its reliable for that drive back and forth.

MDeezy did you get ur 3.5 yet?

I've been looking to see if the pathy TB which has cruise control is needed or if everyone is just leaving off the extra cable plate, or if it wont fit.

This has been discussed in numerous threads.
You have to 2 options:
1.) Keep A32 Valve cover and grind down the rear center and rear right coil bosses. A32 Coil Packs are just fine.
2.) Use A33 Valve cover AND buy all 3 new rear coil packs to fit in the valve cover. The A32 Coil packs are too short to reach down the spark plug well with a DEK valve cover on.
