Re: Re: Re: Wet, Dry, Direct Port, everything...

I'm not talking about him, I'm talking about the guy who fried one of his piston rings due to running lean, and come to think of it, I think he was actually running a 135 shot... He replaced it and the engine was fine...

To the other gentleman.. dashingmax - if you get the proper gauges and do the right setup.. you will be ok

You guys are not helping here...

C'mon... you guys are not helping here.
Now you're talking about "Blown Engines", "fried piston rings", "blown fuel pumps"...
Its gonna take a lot of guts for me to take my kit to the shop, day after tomorrow, and tell him, "Please install it for me!" I'll beg him to charge whatever he wants but make sure that the install is PERFECT and keep my fingers crossed...YIKES!!!

In the "NOS info for the masses" you guys said that a 50-60 shot kit is safe and one can run blind with it.
I added the MSD RPM Switch, A/F Gauge, NOS Pressure gauge, Bottle Heater/Blanket, Remote Bottle Opener and I still do not feel safe.

Is adding the EGT gauge enough...NOPE! I'll then need a Fuel Pressure Gauge...is that enough...NOPE! I'll then need a new Fuel Pump and a Fuel pressure Regulator...is that enough...NOPE!...

And you know what, after all this... I can still get screwed if these are not installed correctly!!

I dunno.....Pardon my dubious, cynical attitude but I sincerely adore my Maxima and it doesn't miss a beat (touch wood) and I would hate to lose it all for my greed for 50 extra horses!!!

here goes.. dummy down version..

what you need..

40 shot:

you can run blind

50 - 60 shot:

a/f gauge, fp gauge, egt gauge .. if you have fp and egt.. a/f is optional.. actualy a/f should be with an additional o2 sensor.. or its just inaccurate..

70 shot - 100 shot

a/f gauge, fp gauge, egt gauge, fuel pump .. if you have fp and egt.. a/f is optional.. actualy a/f should be with an additional o2 sensor.. or its just inaccurate..

Just install the FPSS that comes with the kit. It detects when there isnt enough fuel, it wont open the soleniods and wont let it spray.

They don't make a direct port for maxima

Best, however, expensive and would require serious installation and modification to stock engine. NOS does not make one for a Maxima.

Why does it sound like we are trying to talk you into this???

That's funny, he posted that to you because he is using a NOS direct port kit, and your saying it doesn't exist. Make any sense? They do make kit you can use, it just has to be a custom installation. If you want NOS, install it, if not, don't. You will not find anything that add's 50 HP to your car without some possible side effects, PERIOD. Youve already spent all the money on this stuff, either do it or don't, it's not gonna affect me, or anyone else, plenty of people here use NOS and are completely happy with it, if we haven't convinced you by now, we never will...sheesh...

I guess I was misinformed by the person on the NOS tech support line. I was told by a person, who should've been an authority on NOS products, that there is not a "out of the box kit" for Maxima. Apart from custom installation, the kit itself will need "professional" modification to work for Max...

I am not expecting you guys to talk me into NOS. So far, I value you guy's opinions and experiences and therefore I look for assurances for I am getting involved into something I don't have first hand knowledge about...and that is it. I am sure that the now proud owners of NOS were also nervous when they first got into it... I am going through the same cycle that you probably went through earlier...

What spark plugs are recommended? I heard the 300zx plugs are a step colder than the Maxima's plugs, but I was also told that they are the same plugs......

Here is a page I found, not Maximas, but might be interesting. Has info and pictures. Also, I didn't know NOS was the only company that makes nitrous
