nitrous on highway/freeway?

It's highway where I live.

Anyway, any of you use nitrous on the highway? Like from 60mph or so? How is the pull? Is it strong? I asked because I'm about to take the SC off and swap it into my buyer's car. I'm thinking about getting nitrous. However, I'm not sure if it's worth it. If you don't already know, I'm selling the SC initially because I was going to get rid of the car. Now that I decided to keep the car, I will still get rid of the SC, mainly due to cost(lower my credit debt). Well, it's been awhile since I really push the SC. Today was a good day to really push the car since there were many cars out on a Sunday. I will miss the great pull the SC gave me. How does nitrous compare to the SC on the highway? Let say a 100 shot vs. my current 3.125 pulley SC? Remember, I'm an auto with the VB mod. Will the pull be perhaps stronger with the nitrous? Any info will be appreciated. I'm undecided on whether to go with back with performance or go for looks only. I'm thinking either get NOS or a bodykit. Or maybe both.

Re: nitrous on highway/freeway?

You will miss the SC

Read the FAQ section on Nitrous Oxide Systems web page, notice the one where it says "nitrous is not recomended to be used for more than 15 seconds at a time" IMHO nitrous is not a highway racer item, boost is.

You cant keep the bottle in your car in the summer time in New Orleans b/c it will get too hot.

Playing with bottle temps is a PITA.

You will still need your EGT gauge with a 100hp shot of nitrous.

You will need a fuel pressure gauge.

Yada Yada Yada...

Someone once put it to me like this, Nitrous is like financing your performance thirty dollas a week. Boost is like buying it outright.

As for wich is ultimatly faster, it all depends on your set up and tuning.

A 100hp shot of nitrous is not plug and play either. It will take just as much tuning as a SC to get it right and have piece of mind in it.

Yea, what Matt said.

Nitrous is def not a highway thing (IMHO). Nitrous is meant to be used form a dead stop. I have tried spraying in all 3 gears vs spraying in 2nd & 3rd at a track. I had as much of a difference as .6 based on not spraying in first. Even if you want to spray during highway speeds, you will feel it and it does work, but you wont be getting the best use out of it. Even when i spray on the highway, i only spray just enough to pull ahead of someone or past someone.

someone got 290lb-ft of torque from 100shot nitrous. That was more than enough for him to hang with a 400hp Supra.

Are you talkin about sx7r (Thomas)? He put down 295fwhp & 385lbs on 100 shot. That was a on dry setup.

He is now using a direct port wet kit.

No 2nd bottle yet Joe. I am getting 300zx rims first. They are 16lbs each vs my 2Xlbs chrome rims or my 20lbs MB motoring rims.

Blah! I guess I'll go for the bodykit. I will also get the Level 10 rebuild kit. That should do it for me.

About $750 I think. Not cheap, so I'm going to get a tranny shop take a look at the tranny first to make sure if I really need a rebuild.

tip one { don't spray on topend to get a top speed, you will eat valves like crazy

tip two{personal choice} i never sprayed above 120 mph in my maxima.
id set a mph stopping point for nitrous. it will save a lot of head ache

Why does spraying on the high end hurt so much. Just because you are in the higher gears for a longer time and the heat takes its toll on the valves or what?

You are going to love the 100 of NOS. Sprints car is sick. When we were heaed to the track, DMB and Sprint took off from about 70 and Sprint destroyed DMB. The car is FAST.

I use it on the freeway every once in a while, but you deffintely don't get the same effect as using it on the track, though 40-120 rolls are fun...

eating valves = extreme cold caused by nitrous

don't do top speed tests on the bottle. it will only cost you more money.

lets see..

Bent Valves
Burnt Spark plug.. which cause the car to hesitate which kept activating and de-activating the Nitrous
trap was 97 mph.. which is pretty good since i kept loosing power from 3000 rpms to 5000 rpms.. and the car was jerking.

yeah i brunt out the plugs racing Steve to NJ
