5th Gen "I AM NEW HERE BUT HAVE A QUESTION" thread
New at this
Hey I'm new on this really don't know much on how this works but I have an 02 maxima 6 speed and love mods and crazy looks right now my next step is getting some new headers not sure where to find a good brand I've looked on ebay but they usually have generic brands
This forum has a search feature. It is a great tool. You can search just the 5th gen section for threads on headers and exhaust setups. Good luck and enjoy the car!

If the battery is drained while sitting over night, you have some kind of current drain going on. Look though the back seat and see if your trunk light is on all the time. Same for the glove box light. Do you have a Bose radio that doesn't work right? Unplug it. How about the lights in the doors and sun visors?
Otherwise you will have to do a current draw test, a slow, laborious process to find out what is draining the battery.

I've done all that! No lights remain on, but now that you mention a bad Bose radio, I have been having problems with my system. I already put in an aftermarket head unit, the stock one just gave out, it was crappy. The amp on the other hand, Is only powering the right side of my cars speakers, wtf? Think it could possibly be the Bose amp drawing power after the car is turned off?
Anything is possible. You can pull out 2 fuses that supply power the the Bose amplifier and the woofer. The fuses are under the hood by the battery, # 56 & 67. The cover labels them as AUDIO (#56 - amplifier) and SPEAKER (#67 - woofer). When you pull # 56, this will also clear the radio station pre-set memory.
No power what so ever right?
It is possible, but those old style V belts tend to be quieter. One thing I just thought of - look at the crankshaft pulley while the engine is running. If it looks like it is wobbling, the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer assembly needs to be replaced. With the engine off, look at the alternator serpentine belt from beneath the car and see if it is running straight between the crankshaft pulley and the alternator. If the belt looks like it is on an angle, the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer assembly needs to be replaced.
Changing subjects a little bit, did you see this thread? This guy had a squeak and it was his alternator.

I have been searching around about the 300zx brake upgrade for a 2002 maxima and i want to confirm I have my list of parts right. Please let me know if I am missing anything/have anything wrong.
1. 91 aluminum tt calipers from 300zx
2. 04 maxima rotors
3. brake brakets
4. brakes lines
5. different wheels? spacers? will the 300zx brakes fit under the stock 2002 wheels?

do you mean the stock thread full of common issues and repairs? i already saw one thread where back 2007 some one mentioned a hose from south point that had a continuous piece instead of a crimped one.
EDIT: when i drive i tun the wheel till it stops and hold till i have finished backing up, i have big drive way with a lot of cars + i'm a new driver, i was told that is bad to that. if it s bad would matter any more with a better hose.

They have a PSP high pressure hose for $67 bucks USD, is this right one or crappy OEM one that has the same problem and will break again?
EDIT: they also have power steering filters. i didn't even know it had one, whats up wit that? the first one is metal screen, looks like it could be cleaner with brake cleaner. the rest look universal that fit on the return line. at least the first on is bolt $2 bucks SUD but, i'd figure some one here knows where the stock one is located if it has one.

i am new here but have a question......
is there anyone around the atlanta to athens ga area that would be willing to help a brother out with a rear valve cover replacement?!
holler if you can or know of someone who won't charge me a butt load to do it (around $250 labor is my target).

While my hose was broken I tried to avoid turning, especially hard turns on the wheel lock like wiggling out of a tight driveway. The pressure increases the more you turn the wheel and pumps more fluid out. The car is designed to handle this when the components are in good repair.

PO340 Code
This is my first post... I have an 03 Maxima SE that is giving me grief. We have been getting a SES light intermittently for about a year, car was still running Ok (harder on fuel when light on) but a couple of months ago, the TCS OFF & SLIP lights would light up & it was hard starting, when it did start the engine would not rev past 1200. You could sit in the car & stop & start it a few times, then the latter 2 lites would shut off & the car would run okay, but with time this did not always work, so we put a code reader that gave us the PO340 code, I erased the code & all lights were off & the car ran great for a couple of days then they all came back with the same PO340 code, so I went to Nissan & bought the rear (bank 1) sensor, put it on & erased the code again, the car ran fine for a couple of days, then it happened again all the same lights & code. Now I don't know what to do...The part # was different than the original, but Nissan said it must be an updated sensor & it's the one that goes with my Veh. Ser #, the new# A18-19C2 or 2331-6J90B. Any advice/ Is it possible that the updated sensor is not compatible with the original front one & I need to change that one too?

yes I have been working with the P0021 for awhile and I had the PO340 also,
I had to replace both of the Cams sensors to make mine go away so good luck
and dealership is the only thing I got to work aftermarket ones are just terrible

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.
Consequence:
THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES, THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S). VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.

Emblem lights
Hey, I'm new to this forum, so I'm not too sure about protocol. Simply put, I've got an 01 Nissan Maxima and its the best car I've ever had. I've seen a lot of cars with rear trunk emblems that serve as running lights and as an extra third brake light when you brake. So my question has to do with the wiring. Would I wire it up to the license plate light? If so, how does that hook up to the brake lights at all?
The Rock Auto hose is said to have a permanent "buzz" and considered crappier than the OEM hose. My OEM hose lasted 120K so if the replacement lasts that long I think I'll be happy.
While my hose was broken I tried to avoid turning, especially hard turns on the wheel lock like wiggling out of a tight driveway. The pressure increases the more you turn the wheel and pumps more fluid out. The car is designed to handle this when the components are in good repair.

i'v read most of the entire thread. i think it's user a error not part error. any one who had buzzing sound never mentioned how they bled it, one dude mentioned noticed instruction on the eldeman line AFTER installing him and another poster said they DIDN'T follow those instructions and both had a buzzing sound.
other posters with buzzing sound admitted to starting the car turning the wheel WITH OUT turning the wheel with the engine off FIRST, as per nissan hand book.
1 posted he had a hug leak and no sound then no leak and lots of sound, while other post about air bubbles or small leaks causing the problem.
i'm certain if you have noise you have small leak or connection that is not air tight, or air bubbles.
i still haven to found any evidence of the 1 on continuous piece PSP pressure hose that i read about in one thread (that i can't find).
also it is still possible that those aftermarkets do have an improper diameter causing the buzzing sound but, i'm definitely leading towards user error.
EDIT:
From a purely hydraulic point of view the buzzing/noise that emanates from the pump can only be caused by 2 things. Air in the fluid or cavitation. Cavitation will ultimately lead to pump failure. Why? When a hydraulic pump is trying to move more fluid than can be delivered on the suction side a negative pressure builds in the fluid. This causes a temporary implosion of vapor in the fluid which over time damages the rotating element and chamber in the pump. So if the Edlemann hose diameter is known to be smaller than the OEM hose, and the installation of the Edlemann hose normally results in a buzzing/noise my expectation is eventual pump failure. However, this is pure speculation on my part and without researching the forums for PS pump failures after the installation of this hose I may be off base. I only know what causes cavitation and that it is bad for hydraulic pumps.
If that theory about the warmed up power steering fluid was true, then you shouldn't hear any noise when you move your steering wheel while parking your car after a decent drive; at that point the fluid should be pretty hot.
I think the noise is always there. You can't hear it when you're moving because it is just drowned by road and/or engine noises.
EDIT: I drove today a car just like mine, with a power steering hose just like mine, and there is definitely no noise at all. I guess I'll look into following the bleeding instructions on the Edlemann package, as noted by nismopc a few posts above.

I just completed changing out the hose.
I did the bleed without the engine turned on for about 5-7 minutes and was surprised how much air was really in the system. When the air bubbles finally stopped after about 6 minutes, I noticed the fluid level had gone down from the "Hot Max" mark to just below "Cold Min".
I then added in extra Dex III and did the bleed with the engine on.
I'm happy to report that I have no noise at all
. I did not remove the other hose from the pump nor use the cap that came with the hose pkg from rockauto.
Folks who do have the noise might just need to bleed again or try a flush?

These posts really speaks for them selves.
I'm thinking people doing these repairs don't understand how a hydraulic system works and just how sensitive it can be. proper bleeding has to be from what i'm reading.
Guess i learned some stuff today.

You can keep resetting the code and when it comes back, maybe it will indicate a cylinder. No guarantees. If you read enough threads on P1320, you will see that many guys replaced all the coils, a pricey fix.
Hid xenon repair
Hi I have a 02 max gle with hid headlamps it would seem the previous owner hacked up the wiring to get the headlamp work but now i have one lamp low beam inop and the other flickering when driving. Dealer saying to repair I would have to replace both head lamps and replace wiring harness to headlamps cause of all the hacked up wiring done costing close to 5000. 1250 for each headlamp and 1750 for the harness . Any clue on what I should do?

Hola guys
I'm new here, obviously. I'm 16 and I ain't got all the money in the world. But I found a CIA on eBay for $50 and it says for 95-99 maximas only. I have a 2001 maxima, and I believe it has the same vq30 engine as the 99. Will it fit? Or does the 99 differ from the 01? Please reply asap. Thanks for your time.

Can't find the plastic ring part number that goes in the end of my VQ35 injector..

16412FA is the o-ring, I need the plastic spacer that is at underneath that.

Mine cracked when I popped the rail off to do the LIM NWP spacers.
The o-rings and all those plastic spacers look like they could use replaced.
Thanks in advance.

The plastic end thing is called a pintle cap. Since they don't show in the parts list, I suppose you will have to get them aftermarket.
I googled nissan pintle caps and got this:

I would always replace the o-rings if they have been in use for a while. If you don't want to get them from the dealer, your local auto store should have them.

That pintle cap doesn't look anything like the one I have as well, but I do appreciate the effort.
Air temp sensor?
I Recently bought a MAF Adaptor, and a POD Filter. Every thing fits fine except for one thing. On the 01 Maxima there is a Sensor connected to the orginal air box, which i belive it is the AIR Temp sensor... There is a slot for the sensor on the MAF Adapter, but the sensor is unable to reach all the way there. HELPPP
