*NOOBIES* The "I am new here, but have a question" thread..(post your questions here)
I wanted to first say thanks to all those who have helped me narrow down the problems on my car. My dad was riding in it this weekend when it had a fit and said that it was a stumble instead of a direct misfire. and felt like a bad TPS. I also wanted to say that I had a race with an late 90's early 2000's Ford Focus SVT today and won by about 2 1/2 cars
. Runs bad and still dominates
. Thanks again to those of you who have helped me with my mechanical problems.

Hello Everyone, I just signed up today as my neighbor has a 93 maxima with the bose system. I am helping him install an aftermarket and I am sure I have all the wiring right, Then I noticed the amps on each speaker, Can someone tell me which color wire is the amp turn on. We have power to the stereo but no sound.
Before I get hammered here, I have searched through many posts and even found install info, but nothing on the bose.
Thank
Andrew Las Cruces NM

I am on the Nissan Titan forum, BWM forum, and HD VROD forums, If it wasn't for sites like these we would ALL be lost... well ok maybe just me but hey I have the greasy finger prints on my laptop to prove it!!!

Oh and about the speakers he will be replacing soon.
Thanks Again
Andrew
Many Thanks internetautomar, I printed the diagram out and will work on it shortly.

This doesn't merrit a thread, so I won't make one. I was changing brake pads, but when I was removing the caliper, I noticed that one of the mounting sliders or pins would barely budge from the mounting bracket. I thought it was frozen. Same thing happened on the other side. They were both the same ones. I spent about 45 min pulling the "frozen" pin out to find it had a large rubber thing on the end... That would keep it still? I found it very strange as I have never seen this before. It was the front calipers, they arent dragging and work fine. It must be normal...?
Again Thanks
Andrew
New to the forums
Well anyways I'm new and at the moment broke and borrowing money but I have a passion for my 1994 Nissan Maxima GXE. I love taking a wire brush to my (stock exhaust) and my throttle body since I can't really do much for my car on my budget but I've always had big plans since feeling the 182lbs of torque the VG30E puts out.
So as for my question I'm looking to planning some modifications and would like some input from people who've been in my situation.
1. Intake - I've been hoping to keep my maxima's intake under the hood (no cold air for me unless someone tells me some advantages that outweigh the costs and the extra precaution in getting it through the streets during our occassional floods) but if someone could recommend me something that provides some extra power (and noise - of the good sounding nature of course) it would be greatly appreciated.
2. Muffler - My muffler has started to rust away in a spot or two and I don't care for its styling too much either and as with all my other goals I find my Maxima to sound a bit too tame for me. I'm looking for something with a nice shape and finish that won't be too loud (regardless of what headers, cat and piping I put on it in the future) that I could get a noise violation from one of the more picky areas of the United States (not that my area is one but I still want to keep things legal just incase things change).
3. Traction - I like to accelerate fast, who doesn't during a daily 8 mile 2 way trip down a 45mph street with a gazillion stop lights? Anyways I have some Michelins my mom got from my grandfather when she used the car (and got holes in her previous ones) on it and they are supposed to be great for traction but somehow I don't think so, my grandfather himself spins tires at stoplights and if I didn't practice as much as I have I wouldn't be able to keep the maxima in 1st gear (its auto, which initially ticked me off but I've now come to appreciate it) through the entire powerband and not spin tires. Basically I have to let off the brake ahead of time, let it roll, put it up to half throttle, and then mash it. Don't even get me started on when its wet, even making an effort to go slow I often find myself torque steering. I figure someday these things will lose enough tread that they will handle accelerating from a stop without alot of worry but I still feel like maybe someday I need to get some bigger rims and a good set of radials that will last a long time but still give me the kicks of opening the throttle and not listening to the sound of tires not gripping. Though I don't want to have to fix the speedo to display the correct speed if I can avoid it and I also would like the tire and wheel set to fit in the wheelwells well - I don't need any parts rubbing. Any recommendations?
4. Resonators - I never hear anything good about them yet at the same time I don't exactly know where mine are since all the guides I can find are for SEs, the GXEs are too quiet to be lacking them aren't they? I know there is a rather large section of pipe in the intake right after the MAF so I'm guessing theres a intake resonator in it somewhere and if its removable I'd like to at least test it removed. I would assume the intake setup would eliminate any of these anyways? Either way I think any restrictive parts in my car should hit the road.
5. Air Conditioning - Mine's broke, it was broke for forever and my mom had it fixed when she owned it, then it broke not too long afterwards and my dad despite having a connection to a guy who owns a junkyard which had a nice GXE laying around (though it smelled like the jamacain dude that owned it smoked weed or something in it) doesn't seem to do anything but make excuses when I ask him to fix the crap. As is I only care about my air for those cold nights when the windows get fogged up and I need to see, so is there anyway I can maybe rip out the compressor and stuff and the hardly functional controls and wire it up somehow that I can use it to warm me and my car up but not need to buy r134, fix leaks, etc? I'm not really good with this stuff....I only understand combustion pretty much.
If I think of anything else I'll be back

not really there is a line matching thing-a-ma-bob that PAC makes that can be played with to work with the OE amps. some people have also had luck just bypassing the amps and running straight to the OE speaker which is 1 ohm rather than the more conventional 4 ohm.

Defroster Creating smoke and smell
I have a 92 GXE.
1st of all my a/c system only works on full blower. 2nd when i initially turn it on there's a faint smell of raw fuel but dissipates after a few mins. now when i turn it on it doesn't blow hot air anymore even though i put climate to 29Deg Celsius (this is on idle). when i rev up to say 2000rpm it finally gets warm but now there's a pungent burning smell and light white smoke comes through the air vents. it doesn't even seem to defrost the windshield... it creates even more smog
i know nothing about how cars work, any help would be appreciated, even if you can tell me what i should be replacing so when i go to the mechanic he won't charge me for a bunch of stuff that my ignorance would give in to and pay.

2. the raw fuel smell is most likely leaking rubber fuel hoses under your intake manifold..
3.Are you saying your windshield fogs up even more when you turn it to defrost?.
If so,then you have a leaking heater core..
Thanks man. I figured that that was the case as I had one before and am pretty certain that it was an 92 SE. I guess that it was more along the lines of the luxury trim of that car. Although it was previously my grandfather's, he sort of got the stripped version of it. Did the SE have the VG engine?

1. sounds like you have a bad blower motor resistor,or a bad climate control unit.

i still need some feedback i don't wanna get rid of my baby
combine that with a sohc(vg) vs dohc(ve) and you get better power(among other upgrades the ve has)
Cv axle problem
Need some help on getting right cv axle out. I've got a 90 se with 5 spd trans.Got everything taken off and can not get the axle to come out.Looks like it has rusted to the housing where the 3 bolts are.I have looked at other post and seen other people have had the same problem, but did not say what they did to get it off.I have worked on trying to seperate it for about 4 hours and have very little seperation.

Hey guys, I'm new here and I activated my account but I think something happened different than it was supposed to because I can't post my own threads. It says that it has been disabled for me either due to it has been taken away by admins or my account is awaiting activation but its not...help! I need to get some answers!
Hello all. If i were to buy a y-pipe but did not put on headers or a catback would i see any gains. is it worth it to put the y pipe on alone? or should i wait a couple months, get the catback and put it on all together?
ok so you're a wannabee

It also was "professionally" serviced about a year before I took it off my mom's hands....I didn't like the job they did, they worked on the AC and were supposed to stop the brakes from screeching cause my dumb mom assumes her brake pads are going to fall off and get her killed when they screech. Well....the brakes actually were rubbing with the pedal not even depressed before we took it back the same day to have that worked out, so I have very little faith in professional service and I'm going to assume that they did absolutely nothing right that day
As for waiting I've been thinking about this for well over a year I'm pretty sure as soon as I have money I'm done waiting, the VG30 deserves higher output.
Now could you shut up about routine maintenance? Just cause I don't specify that I just did a 60K doesn't mean I didn't. It's a well maintained car and even the body is devoid of the signs of aging aside from the single small dent on the passenger side door from back when I thought it was safe to park my car on the curb like everyone else on my street does....someone stupid hit it and I think its the guy across the street but I can't point any fingers. I've seen about 2 handfuls of 3G Maximas in my city over the past year or so and ALL of them sound worse and look worse than mine (including my door ding), no exceptions regardless of driver age.
Routine maintenance is done for the most part, me and my dad did the 2nd 60K at around 122K and its only got 3000 miles put on it since, the oil is good and basically everything I give a damn about is out of the way (its not like hood struts and AC are needed in florida when you are native and have worked here in orange groves since you were 4)

Wow, that is the way to get the guru's to give you advice.
okay, i'm hoping i can get alot of help here, it looks like i will anyway. But, here's my situation, I have a 93 GXE with 170K, i'll admit it's nothing special right now, but it is my first car. I'm 17 and debating on all of my college plans, but i want to make the max better too. I was wondering if my plans may be too much; (i've already installed new speakers all the way around and a new Alpine head unit, all myself)
-replace head unit with indash GPS (or get a very nice portable kind like Garmin or w/e)
-find some nice 17" or 18" wheels (chrome or silver paint similiar to stock color --not sure)
-two tone leather seat conversion (cream and brown)--the car is pearl--color code is defined as "satin white pearl metallic tricoat clearcoat" incase you were wondering why cream and brown)
-maybe dual exhaust or just a nice (but not retarded looking) chrome tip
-window tint
-maybe some subs like one or two 12s
-a possible digital dash conversion (IF POSSIBLE???)
are these dreams too much considering the age and mileage of my max? should i tone the plans down, add some, take away??...i'm open to all opinions, and reply to this post or PM me, either one is fine
all opinions are appreciated thanks
