If anyone has any comments on if these are decent price/quality and if they will fit please let me know. If they don't fit, is the best bet to get the Cefiro ones?
Unfortunately, they are not a direct fit. Go for the Cefiro's.

i think the front end can be replaced with i30 panels but why??? a lot of money to have a front that doesn't match the rear.

(supercharged). ok when i bought the car from a friend it had a the check engine light on and he told me it was from the rear o2 sensor and a map sensor. so i bought those and put them in properly. the check engine light is still on. so i had the codes read and th p1130 code came up (swirl control valve) so i looked at that closely and found that its not connected... my problem is there is no connector in my engine bay for it how is that??? is there a difference in the fed. and cali wiring harnesses or what im at a real loss right now

Starter?

Been reading this board for a long time, but never posted.

I have a '96 SE, 5spd manual, 133000 miles and up til now has run great.

The check engine light came on last week, but I didn't have time to deal with it. After being away for 5 days I tried to start it--put the key in the ignition, radio and lights came on, but no cranking, only a clicking sound. I tried to jump it, but still only a clicking sound. From searching here it seemed like it's the starter...but I'd appreciate any imput.

I have done body work but never any real work under the hood, but I'd like to try to fix this myself. Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like the starter from the gist of it, but you really should check and see what the CEL is and report back. Takes 2 minutes and small screwdriver. Then use the CEL diagnosis sticky in the 4th gen forum to see what it is...

Welcome to the org!

Engine stalling, P0100 in '96 Maxima SE

I have a '96 SE with 412,000 miles. Recently it has started stalling from time to time when I take my foot off the gas; sometimes it happens once or twice a day. I have also started getting a P0100 code and an engine check light. But often the engine stalls without sending the code, and sometimes I get the code but the engine doesn't stall. (I've had the check light turned off several times.)

Other than stalling, my performance is unaffected and my MPG hasn't changed.

The dealership and an independant mechanic both ran diagnostics and both told me I needed a new Mass Airflow Sensor, so I bought a Bosch MAF, installed it myself, and it has made no difference. It still stalls and I still get the P0100 code.

The car also has a heart murmur--ie. my timing chain is starting to rattle--so I don't want to spend a ton of money replacing one part after another.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I hope it's really heavy duty tape. Over time, that won't last IMO. Of all my years on the org, I've never heard anybody using the deflector you've described. OEM used deflectors (even new) are pretty affordable. Maybe you want to consider returning it and going OEM?? OEM does use clips.

I don't know if you can tell from my pictures but w/e,.... both my front fenders have rust on the tips that ate off about half an inch to an inch ,at the front and I think one has rust bubbles right at the top of the semi circle...now my plan was just to cut off the damaged area ...

....weld on sheet metal , prime , paint etc , and see if I can shave off the rust bubbles and maybe fill it or something ....HOWEVER I was wondering how much would 2 new fenders cost me all id have to do is just paint them ...

Starter-Parts store rebuilt vs Nissan OEM

I hope I am doing this correctly. My starter recently went out on my 95 maxima. After much help from the Chilton book and a few friends, I went to a local parts store and purchased a remanufactured starter, and installed it (sat afternoon). Drove the car all afternoon/evening on Saturday and also on Sunday. Went shopping Sunday early evening and when turned the car off, was making a grinding type sound (figure maybe it was the fan rubbing on something as i had hit a deer and have yet to have core support repaired)thinking that it was the fan i went in and shopped for about 10 min. Came back out to hear the same sound, except not as pronounced, but now smoke was pouring from under the hood with a strong electrical burning smell. I had seen somewhere on the net where if you use a parts store starter versus a nissan oem starter you will be replacing it at least once a year if not more, does anyone know if this is true. I am iffy on posting this part as you said not to post check engine until i checked on codes, but i know nothing about codes, but after the new starter was pu t on the check engine light came on...but the starter and everything acted fine. After putting new starter on I did notice that the sound the car made when cranking it up was different than with the original starter, sounded different after the cranking sound...kind of a "winding down" sound. Is this normal, or is it just because it is a different starter? The parts store offered to replace the started as they thought it may be defective since it is under warranty. Can anyone help. I used to be Honda/Acura person and this is my first nissan and I LOVE IT, but dont love this problem as I dont know how to proceed now. Thank you in advance.

I just had that problem this year. It's better to get the fenders, unless you just want to Bondo it up. the metal will keep going and the bondo'll fall out in a year or so. fenders are really cheap - $100 or so if you shop around. Don't know where you're at, but I got mine at Maaco real cheap.

My car has the custom maxima "dual" exhaust that they were selling years ago. I have had enough of the exhaust, and it is starting to rust and want to replace it. The problem is that my bumper is now cut for the second exhaust tip. In order to replace the bumper all i need is this right? And obviously it will need painted but that seems really cheap.

Once you remove the screw on top of the corner light, the rest is done by prying with a screwdriver and a cloth to protect the corner light/headlight. Yes, I know........crappy design. Just go slow and be careful. Once it 'pops' out, you'll see the ball/socket.

Assuming you have a 97-99 Maxima, yes, that's all you need.

that is all you need, but sometimes eBay parts aren't as good / high quality as they should be.

Once place to get quality OEM parts for wholesale is Pinnacle.www.pinnaclenissan.com

I dont plan on buying from ebay, I was surprised with the price I thought it would be a few hundred for the bumper not 100 or less. I was dreading buying the bumper but it looks like it wont be too bad.

Ok, my question

I recently picked up a 95 maxima auto at a very good deal and I was told of the 2 problems it has. One was that it needed a new control arm bushing on the passenger side and the other was that it shuts off randomly. Usually once every 3 to 4 days but it starts right back up. He told me he thought it was an idle control sensor. I didn't believe it. So I took the car to a shop and they told me I had a oil leak somewhere and it was eating at my bushing which is why I needed a new one. Any one ever heard of this?

My other question I did a little research on and I've read the problem might be I need a new cam sensor or crank sensor due to my random shut offs. I looked at both on my car and they are both covered in oil from my oil leak. I took it to a shop and they checked the codes and it came up with the usual knock sensor code, and a temp sensor code. When I did my research I read its probably the crank/cam sensors. So what should I look into replacing?

I paid 125$ from pinnacle Nissan a few years back, and O too was pleasantly surprised. Keep in mind, it is called a bumper cover, not a bumper. The cover is just the plastic / composite you see there. The actual bumper is metal, and bolts onto the subframe.

Since you only want it for replacement and you weren't involved in any sort of crash, it will be fairly cheap. For me, I had to do some fabrication on one of my bumper mounts so that the bumper cover would be straight when mounted to the actual bumper, since I did hit a wall.

Huh, this one looks easy.

The dead LCA bushing is easy to fix and is also a common problem with older Maximas. It is typically caused by a PS fluid leak. The power steering fluid leaks onto that particular bushing and breaks it down. I was too lazy to fix the leak, so I just got a new LCA. You can get them from eBay with the bushing in for ~ 60$. It shouldn't take more than an hour to replace. But, you may want to try and pinpoint the leak and fix it, that would be the smart / correct way to do it.

Your other problem is most likely caused by the engine coolant temp sensor (ECTS), which you mentioned turned up in the codes that were read. Search for ECTS sensor on here. It's a cheap part (less than 40$) and wont take more than 10 minutes to replace.

Ok. But would a faulty ECTS cause the car to stall?

I have a 1999 Maxima and I have currently replaced all spark plugs, MAF, all filters, 2 coils and fuel pump. The car had 2 coils not working properly so I have replaced those. The rest of the coils are stock so are the injectors and those are on my list to replace next so is the computer since someone presses the dianostic screw in to far and it broke loose.

Question 1: The car misses badly when stopped or moving at 20mph or less. It is random not all the time.

Question 2: I have a OBDll actron Cp9135 it works on my truck, but not on my maxima. Is this a computer going out or the plug?

Question 3: The car is cranking over fine, but it takes longer to crank now then it use to. I am just wondering if it's all connected somehow with all my problems.

Question 4: I am planning on taking some C-4 with det cord and a blasting cap and watch this baby go up in the sky if I can't fix it I'll make it look like scrap then.

If any one can help me please do before I drop another grand into this.

Should replace all of the coils, chances are the other 4 are going to crap out on you before long.

Why do you plan on changing out the injectors? Do they test bad, or what?

Run a ground wire from the battery to the starter, it may help it start up quicker.

No real reason to use det cord and C4, a couple hundred feet of det cord should destroy the vehicle quite nicely.

oh no C-4 and det cord needed I seen 2 155mm rounds in a VBIED in Iraq and boy it flew across the road about 40 feet great scene. I want to do that to this maxima so bad, but I will change out the coils since that's on my list. My car has 163,150 miles on it now so I just want to park it and get it running good again. Thanks for the help man I appreciate it.

I have searched around and had no luck. Does anyone have a photo or diagram of where the turn signal flasher is located? I know it's near the fuse box by the driver's feet. A link to another thread that already answers this would be appreciated as well. It's a 1996 Maxima SE.

Thanks in advance,

- Cory

I'm almost sure its your oil sensor , rusted up maybe if it has not been changed in recent years if ever . I had mine replaced about 3 weeks ago , the area is moist with oil right ? I still have the old one in my trunk but my car is like frozen right now. But if it is just pop it out clean the area and put in a new one , cost me 20 $

Cat Question

Is the factory cat on our cars held in place by 4 bolts w/ nuts or is it 4 studs threaded into the actual brackets of the cat....this muffler shop is trying to tell me its prob studs and it'll take hours to burn them out and replace the hardware for 40 or 50 bucks...and im not buying it

4 12x1.25 studs, that are a complete PITA to remove except when you blow them out with a torch. If your cat or Y has never been off, chances are they're going to break a stud when pulling the exhaust off.

What are you 'not buying'?
