I just got an 02 6spd SE and love it, but I have a question. Is my clutch slipping? If I'm in gear and stomp on it the engine revs but the power arrives about a second later. I've never owned a car with variable timing or and electronic throttle and was wondering if that might be what it is. I would hate to have to replace the clutch in a car that I've owned for, let's see, 3 days, but I've kind of fallen for her and would do it. Is there any way to tell for sure what's going on?

Can anyone link me to MetalMax's "big 3" upgrade? I can't link it VIA search or find a sticky.

I don't wanna make a new thread for something so small. Thanks.

Most people will try to tell you its just the really short low gears coupled with DBW (drive by wire) throttle. That may be what you're experiencing but maybe not. My 6 speed has the same thing you describe. It feels like an automatic tranny would right before it down shifts correct? Kind of a lag? There is a TSB out for this issue. Search in the stickys and you'll find it.

Kind of doubt its your clutch but for the record how many miles you have? Mine is on its way out at 70K. Slips like crazy when I shift into 2nd at WOT.

does anyone have any thoughts on this CAI? i dont like the stillen, its too short, and the injens cost a little too much. also where would this sit in the engine bay of an 01 3.0L?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-01...spagenameZWDVW

thanks for any opinions

That looks like an Injen knock off. I wouldn’t get it. Injen is a poor design on these cars. You’d be better off with a Stillen.

Better yet, get ANYTHING but an Injen or Injen knock off.

What browser are you using? If it’s FF, try opening the thread using IE.

Stillen/JWT/Custom/GAB.

do you know exactly what parts i need for a custom intake. i.e., sizes, lengths, maf adapters, couplings?

does this kit include all the right parts?

Easy check is to put the car in gear with the e-brake on and slowly let out the clutch in 4th gear. Should kill the engine immediately when the clutch engages if the clutch is still good.

You can also do some roll-on acceleration on a hill in a high gear, if it is slipping you should really feel it.

+1 for this method...did it in a saturn once and i could engage the clutch and free rev in 5th...while stopped.

oh, and thats not normal. you shouldnt get any lag with a 6spd. clutch would be the first thing to check but i also think you would know if it was the clutch

Posting this in here because I'm sure it's in this forum somewhere, but I just can't locate it.

I am experiencing a rear brake rubbing/groaning sound which I believe is covered by this TSB:

Service Bulletin Number: NTB01084
NHTSA Item Number: 629200
Summary Description:
EXHIBITING REAR CALIPER HUM/GROAN NOISE. *TT

Any idea where I can find a pdf?

Engine Mounts Chirp!

Hi guys I Have a 2000 max se auto that gets a strange chirp sound from the engine mounts. I tried looking for this thread and couldn't find it. Is this a TSB and also will I have to get this problem fixed?

Thanks

I hit a curb going around 35-40mph... enough to put a bulge on my tire.... and mess up my alignment....

i got it re aligned.... and balanced all the tires...

now... i notice something... and i dont know if it was there before or not...

when taking off.... if i dont give too much gas... just releasing the clutch pedal.... about half way... and the car starts rolling off.... i can hear creaking sounds.... once i give it a tad bit of gas... it goes away ...

im worried that i messed up one of the suspension components... the tires plus alignment guy didnt say anything was broken.... but then again i doubt he checked it properly...

i checked my CV boots... they are alll still intact...

I've had cars that had struts that creaked when it was cold but it went away during warmer weather.

ok, i'm not a newbie, but i have a random question that isn't worth starting a new thread for:

i'm looking at this car to buy, but the carfax said it was repaired at a facility after a front end collision, so i'm inclined to stay away from it... but it's a REALLY nice car.. and i am curious about the severity of the accident.. if it was just a fender bender, then it's not that serious and i could buy it, but if it was a big impact then i'll definitely stay away.. is there any way to tell if the airbags were ever deployed on that car? maybe by looking up the VIN number on some database somewhere?

I had actually found the service bulletin before, but the description was so vague that I wasn't sure if that was what was going on with my car.

I'll definitely give these a shot. Has anyone had the clutch replaced? I don't have the equipment to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. Any idea what it might cost and should I have anything else done while I'm in there (flywheel, high-performance clutch, etc.)?

I think if the airbags were deployed, depending on the price of the car and other factors, it would most likely would've been totaled. You can go to the shop that repaired it and ask them

Can you bark the tires shifting into second at WOT? If you can I doubt its shot. But with a 107K I'm thinking (assuming its the original clutch)

There are no significant power gains from adding a muffler on our cars. They flow fine.

So if I have the e-brake on and let the clutch out in 4th or 6th it stalls. As the car warms up it seems that the lag/slipping gets better. It doesn't do it in 1st gear. I'm stumped.

i don't know what shop it was.. the carfax just says:

Collision Repair Facility
Pennsylvania
Vehicle inspected after an
accident or other incident
Damage to front
A vehicle inspection completed
by your dealer or professional
inspector is recommended

CARFAX began reporting information from this source on 05/06/2005.

The salvage/junk/rebuilt section of the carfax is guaranteed with no problem. What does that mean though? Does that mean the damage was only minor? Should I still stay away from it? Keep in mind that it's a REALLY nice car.. lol

EDIT: I just saw that both the airbag deployment check and structural frame/damage check have no issues reported. Is this car still ok to get?

Have someone who really knows what to look for look at the car. If you want the car that badly, thats what I'd do. I'm guessing this is a dealer your buying from?

No one can really tell you without seeing it, etc. but if it doesn't have structural/frame damage, then the repair must've been the bumper or something which is not bad at all.

to Kyle00, and to add:

In the case of a muffler, the stock unit has proven itself and it can support up to 250fwhp, so, unless you're putting down more, or have not been able to break 250 with it, I wouldn't worry.

I would tend to doubt that its your clutch. 107 k isnt that much for a clutch these days unless its been driven really hard.

I have the same hesitation that you do. My buddy who is a mechanic at nissan is going to update my software per the TSB and see if that helps the problem.

It will probably be just after the holidays and I can let you know how it works.
