exhaust rattle

I have been hearing what seems like my exhaust rattling but I dont know if i have a leak or not, it does not sound a like leak meaning there is not a loud noise coming from the car. the exhaust rattles when i shake it so im assuming that i need new exhaust hangers, does anyone know good place to get this fixed in the south new jersey area and approx cost. Also should i just change the exhaust out it is a 2003 nissan maxima se 105k and I live in the northeast so im sure there is a decent amount of salt damage on it. thanks

First thing is do a physical inspection of your exhaust. It can be a hanger that is gone or loose, or it could be a loose heat shield. Another possibility is a cat breaking up, do you get a "bees in the can" kind of sound?

You will only really know for sure by doing a full inspection.

There are many gaskets or seals that could leak oil, and they'll all leak from the engine bay; that's where the engine is.

There's no possible way to say 'how bad' it is without 1, knowing exactly what is leaking, and 2, knowing how much it's leaking, by rough quantity and time.

Without any knowledge of what gasket or how badly it's leaking, you can't hope to get much help with it. Find your RO from when you took to Nissan, or have a shop take a look for the leak. Also, if it's been leaking heavily, it'll likely be close to impossible to find the source of the leak without washing down the entire engine bay.

Ok so i have a double din installed running my bose system through the scoche harness. I want to keep the bose speakers I just want to add a one channel amp and add a sub to the system. Would I just add the amp to the sub out on the deck?? or would I have to get that Pac adapter to bypass the amp.
Sorry for my ignorance on the topic...

Correct, just use the subwoofer RCA preouts from the head unit.

Ok cool. Currently this is what I am planning to buy.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A2LYDS8AIU9VMR

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A12KEZCG9I0IOM

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I know the sub and the box are good, but would the kenwood be a good combo with the alpine?

Also, what would be a good wiring kit to purchase.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!!

Just make sure to check your oil every day until you get it fixed...

New to the forum. Just picked up an 03 6SPD LSD. love it so far. I tried doing a search on the issue and nothing came up, so here goes. My drivers heated seat isn't working. I know its not a fuse cause the passenger seat still works, and they are on the same circuit. Im going to take a mulitmeter to the switch to see if its getting power. Does anybody have a wiring diagram for this or any ideas as to what might be wrong?

Thanks a bunch!

I had to take my whole driver's side seat apart to get to the heating element (which is just a really really thin wire). Turns out this wire had a break in it, so I got some old earphones and soldered some of the flexible earphone wire to the element to re-establish continuity where the break was. It was a hassle, and pretty intricate work, but my seat's working now.

Every ~60,000 miles or so (give or take) if you have stock platinum plugs. Some might say up to 100K...

So my brother ended up getting a grounding kit for his car but never ended up using it. So with it laying around, i decided i am going to put it in the max. I know there are certain benefits (whatever people are claiming: smoother idle, 1-2 increase in hp, quicker response in this and that) but being that I don't really know where common places where things are grounded, I am lost. So basically my question is where would be good places to run the wires. (I know there isn't really one objective answer to it and that the wires could run to many places but just wanted to know where would be a good place to start...)
Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Looks fine. Get a good kit with decent RCA cables. Anything from Stinger or www.knukonceptz.com should be fine.

Quick google search for "maxima grounding kit" brought me to this thread:
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...g-kit-diy.html

I'm sure there are others that can give other locations. Good luck.

Loss of power on 03 Maxima

I just bought an 03 Maxima GLE 3.5 that was wrecked, but still drives. Currently getting it fixed up. Very clean car with 75,000 miles. Drove it home about 100 miles and car drove great. Got in it a few days later and the car sounded like it was missing and didn't have any power and the check engine light was on. I believe the car had been sitting for 6-7 months so I changed out the oil and filter and it still runs like crap. I'm new to the Maxima's so don't know much about what to look for. Any ideas?

Thanks

As was said above make sure you get RCA cables, but also make sure the kit has an amp turn on lead and at 8 gauge or less wiring. Do you have an aftermarket headunit with RCA preamp outputs? If not you'll need a line-output converter to get the sound signal to the amp.

Thanks! I was afraid of this. Oh well.... Im going to pull the switch to make sure that's not the issue before tackling the seat.

Well the check engine light would likely give you a good indication of what the actual issue is, so I would have that checked by autozone or something (assuming you don't own an OBDII scanner).

But based on your description of 'missing' and 'no power', if I had to guess, I would guess Mass Air Flow sensor or ignition coils.

Get the codes read and find out for sure.

As soon as it is fixed up thats what I'll do. Hopefully nothing major. My brother had a 2000 model that started giving him fits and he just sold it and bought a new Hyundai Sonata turbo. He replaced some coils like you were suggesting and some other nickel and dime stuff. Thanks for your help and as soon as its painted I can post some pics.

Ie been reading up on coolant flushes, and I read somewhere about a relief/bleeder valve. If there is one, where would I find it on a gen 5.5? If there isn't one whats the proper way to "burp" the system.

Thanks!

CLR, and/or muratic acid. Although be very careful with the acid, use it at a dilute concentration.

After cleaning with those you can hand polish them and they should shine up real well. But...they will look like that again after a few thousand miles anyways...

Could be a number of things...but as simple as a spark plug. I would change the spark plugs and run some fuel injector cleaner through it to see if it clears up the issue. The code is probably the general misfire or if you are lucky, a specific cylinder. Only way to know is get the code checked and do a search on here.

Underneath the radiator, theres a plastic plug with a philips head slot on it. It's about the size of a time. Can't remember if it's driver or passenger side. I BELIEVE it's driver's side.

To burp the system, Put the front of the car on ramps and let the engine run with the heat on full.

Idle control question

I'm new here, just bought my 01 AE about a month ago and it has been stalling at red lights. I've been reading a lot of post on here for the past few weeks, but I still have a few questions. Can my ICV be cleaned? and should I try that first? If not, where is the cheapest place to get one? Thanks!

I have MAF cleaner and throttle body cleaner, would either work well or should I use something different?

Thanks for the quick response. Is there a write-up somewhere of how to get to the ICV or will it be obvious to me when I get in there?

I've seen it before, search around.

And buy a spare tire cover while you're at it! (see my signature)
