There's plenty of suspension info in the Stickies, start there for your research.

Suspension, or other upgrades recommended????

I did read the sticky's, and thats how I determined that set-up. Should drop it nice with my 18" wheels. I'm hoping it will clear that huge gap between the wheel and the fender. Lastly, what are some other upgrades that are cost effective and well worth while??? Thanks

Chattering Noise on cold starting

I have a 2002 SE auto with 80400km which I bought in April 2006.
When starting from cold I get a chattering noise for 2-3 seconds, the motor runs fine and sounds fine .
I did do a search and found some replies on the same problem but nothing telling me what the cause is or how it can be corrected. I have the extended warranty and would like to get it fixed while still under Nissan's warranty if it is a problem.

Thanks for any help

Most likely the VTC (Valve Timing Control) sprocket; there is a TSB: http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/NTB03-060.pdf

H-techs will look good with 18s, will ride decently for the drop they give, and you should experience a decent handling upgrade compared to stock. The last two are assuming correctly matching dampers of course. They're basically a good compromise. If you're really into advanced handling however, you'll probably be disappointed.

There are positive discussions on H-techs out there, but they're mostly gonna say what I said up top.

My car was manufactured 10/01. Do I have an 01 or 02? It was sold as an 02 model and I believe a manufacture date of 10/01 would probably be an 02 model year.

there are ways to figure out what year it is besides the build date.

main thing...engine!!! 3.0 vs 3.5

Man I don't know if it will cover all that or not. Unfortunately I didn't see this post in time and the car is already in there, probably be picking it up soon.

Well guys, coming from England, the date of manufacture is the year of the car, not the model year or the year in which it was sold. So they were legit questions for me.

This is the second used car we've bought since I've been in the US, the first had a manufacture date the same as the year on the title. All our other cars where new and manufactured in the same year they were purchased.

yeah, here in the US, the car can be made the year before the model year. you can also buy them the year before. the 02 model went on sale in the fall of 01.

Well, I called the dealer after I read this and there wasn't anything "extra" they could do. The guy was real cool and I told him I planned on fixing the P0430 myself after I try and spend a little more time diagnosing the problem. He continued with the reflash and originally told me that it only influences the MAF. When it was done, he called me and said the code went away and I have "the latest updtaes on for the computer". He may have just been speaking down to me, but the car is running stronger than it has in the last 2 years and we'll see if the SES light comes back on. Thanks for the help.

I tried to use search and it wont let me so hear i go

My tranny is going into neutral (i think) when im at a stand still about to start accelerating I thinks its going into neutral because when im about to stop i feel the tranny lightly kicking into neutral then when I rev it back up it takes about till 2000 rpm for it to kick back into drive(which i feel alot more)

Its not slipping in any way in higher rpm's.

I just changed my motor mounts the other week. I'm not sure what the sensors control that are on those mounts.

I've read that it can be cpu ? I cant remember or find the post i saw it in.

I just hope I dont need a new tranny,Its been perfectly fine till yesterday.

Well I woke up this morning and theres tranny fluid on the ground where my car was parked.

The car only made it 5ft before the snow was too much.

You can feel the tranny shift and then unshift out of drive and revearse

Does anyone have an opinion? before i waste money on a tow and send it to the shop.

Am I in denial about having to replace the tranny?

The tranny was running pefectly fine for the 2 years I've had the car showed no signs of trouble.

Brake Caliper

Does anyone know if and where I can buy pre-painted brake calipers? Or do I have to paint them myself?

Many of nissan's new calipers come painted silver from the factory, but you would have to do the entire 6th gen brake swap to get them. I would just paint them myself. Google the G2 caliper paint kit.

it is really easy to paint them yourself, even if they're on the car. Buy some G2 brake paint and go at it.

Damn You Guys!!!

Well.. I bought this car last week (03 GLE) swearing that I would keep it stock but after lookin at all 30+ pages of the members rides I just can't do it....

My first round of mods I want, I have been unable to find or links on the board are outdated.

1 - Angel eyes
Where is the best place to buy em? Lookin for best quality that will last and are bright as shiet...

2 - Clear front side markers
I called auto dynamics lookin for these and they said they were discontinued.... Anyone know where I can find a set?

3 - Clear lens for headlight
I dont want to do the dremel approach... anyone know were I can buy a set?

4 - 01 Se tailights
Autodynamic has em for like 70 each. Is there a better place to buy them? Where do I find the harness?

I am going for this look for the lights:

Thanks in advance guys and I will get pics posted once the mods get rollin...

i painted my calipers w/ VHT high temp. caliper paint about 8 months ago but its already startin to fade. Are the G2 kits any better than VHT or is it all pretty much the same?

So since nobody can answer my questions how about this

Will just a regular performance shop be able to diagnose the proablem?

Or is it something I have to take to the stealership?

I'd like to tow it this afternoon so any advise would be great.

thnks.

if you're having a transmission problem, I most definitely would not go to a "performance shop." I would take it to a dealer or to a transmission shop where the people might actually be able to diagnose your problem

Your problem sounds like a bad transmission leak. I've seen cars that act exactly as you describe due to low fluid level.

the silverstars are about as good as you can do without getting real HIDs. Those other "ultra white", "hyper white" and bluish bulbs are junk...

two questions about my engine. First off, is this connector supposed to be connected to anything? It is right behind the drivers' side headlight.

Secondly, is this gap supposed to be here? I doubt it is, but who knows. Is it a huge deal?

well im not sure what that plugs into, where does the wire lead too? get a pic of where the wire leads too.

also with that gap, it is a gap between the scoop and the intake box that has the air filter. that gap being there should not cause any problem because air still goes through your filter before going into your engine.

good eye, sooner.

as for the other connector, it stems out just above the front left corner of the battery/the fusebox in the pic. The wire bundle it stems from... one way leads to the fusebox to the right of the battery, and the other way leads across the grill. I looked for connectors in the vicinity, but there are none that i saw at a quick glance. here's another pic.

thanks. and yes, i'll be cleaning my engine up tomorrow.
