Think I may have got screwed...

I have a 2000 SE 5spd...Recently my clutch was sticking, and wasn't releasing correctly. So I took my car to a local mechanic. They initially said it was the clutch master cylinder, which they had replaced back in july, it was under warranty so they fixed that for free. After that was done it still wasn't working right. They told me they needed to take out the transmission to see what was happening with the clutch, and came back that the clutch needed to be replaced, and flywheel resurfaced. Cost...

Parts:
ACDelco Clutch Kit = $320.54
80W90 Gear Oil/Pint = $3.96 x 8 = $31.68
------------------------------------------
Total for Parts = $352.22

Labor:
Replace Clutch, including taking out transmission = $541.13
Resurface flywheel = $52.00
------------------------------------------
Total for Labor = 593.13
------------------------------------------
Total = $945.35

Did they need to take out the transmission to see what the problem was? and is it necessary to take out the transmission to replace the clutch? Did the really require 8 pints of gear oil? What is a reasonable price for labor for replacing a clutch? and too boot...clutch is still sticking...

Especially since it is much harder to rebuild an automatic correctly than to replace a clutch correctly.

----------------

What probably happened is your car was driven too long with a bad clutch master and it caused excess wear in the clutch. $900 is about the going rate for a FWD clutch.

kinda late to ask if you got screwed.

as i always say, "people that say a mechanic screwed them over, LET the mechanic screw them over. you agree to let them do repairs before they start it."

Would that even cover the cost of the parts? I thought the kit was >$200, and with labor???
