Magnaflow 14805 Mufflers AND Magnaflow 12640 Resonator Installation
#41
i got the same set up as you.
14805 muffs
12640 res.
im still nervious about the res cuz like i said my dad drives the car. and i cant have loud cabin noise. like im trying to get 0% drone. so im gonna put the mufflers first and see how loud it is then ill think about the res.
i wanna get it right the first shot i dont wanna cut it and then re-weld it again.

Well i didnt add any res yet but i will tell you this if you want 0 drone then dont add any res , i add it just the magnaflows and i can hear it and it have a nice tone to it , so i think if you add just the mufflers you will be fine with that trust thats the set up i have going and i like it but i will add res soon want to hear it a lil louder.

Hmm, ok, what is it that you don't like about the welds? I mean I guess you can only see clearly the welds on the resonator but I'm curious what you are seeing that I may not be. It is sealed up nice and tight with no leaks.

I have a similar setup with 14807 mufflers instead, but I also have the 12640 resonator. While I really like the tone I want it to be louder from the outside. Currently still w/stock B-pipe but I'm planning to get 2.5" piping over spring break. Will that change volume at all? Or should I just get a smaller resonator and that will make it louder but with similar tone?

Do you have a video? I did the N1 catback with 14816 mufflers and it sounds amazing.Check it out

The difference is using that 6" round muffler versus a 4" round....I'll measure the stock resonator diameter and try to duplicate it the resonator size with a magnaflow of equavilent brand ON OUR 5.5th Gen.....

I agree those mufflers are hanging too low from the car...

HA, well RAZ was talking about how he thinks it doesn't look good having the stock rusty looking exhaust welded to the new steel exhaust. On this point I agree with him. But I think RAZ and EVERYONE else knows that the exhaust is not low. It is the same height as factory if you know what you are looking at. Stay stupid my friend, lol.

So did you paint or replace the rusty pipes?
BTW the vids don't work anymore

Im going to have to disagree, I put the smaller size Magnaflow resonator(14in as opposed to 16in IIRC) on my 4th gen and it doesn't have drone at all. I could be wrong but I think good quality muffler does more to eliminate drone but still sound good more so than a resonator.

And after riding in my friend's Accord w/fart cannon muffler I can definitely say I don't care about the outside volume as much as I do having a reasonable cabin volume w/no drone which is what I have and what I'm happy with. I'll just do the piping for now and wait until after I get y-pipe and headers before reconsidering a smaller res

Yes, it is beefier, about 20% larger than the factory resonator. However, there is PLENTY of room for it and fits perfectly in place with no modifications to the car and no contact with the heat shield. The circumference is not so big that it is close to the ground or anything. The ground clearance compared to the factory resonator is an inch at most.
