The motor will absolutely handle it, the concern would be with the CVT. I doubt it would last long with consistent use.

Better off with a wet shot..... Less chance of things going boom.

Colder plugs would be nice to add. Can hook the knock sensor to a switch as well to retard timing.

yes i am able to do that knock sensor wiring, but the cvt is what worries me to i wish this came in a 4L or a 3.5 bi turbo! thinking of turboing the engine as well just need to do some research on how much boost it can handle with the cvt nothing like the cvt rpm sitting at max rpm and the cars just flying with acceleration thanks for all responses greatly appreciate you all

Yeah... CVT won't take the abuse or heat from a turbo...

I really think that the CVT is close to it's safe limits at the stock 300hp. I would think 350+ would put it in the danger zone for sure.

A turbocharger heats the transmission?

I keep reading that and I keep asking why.

Lexus LS600 has 416hp

I may be wrong but don't think the Lexus has a CVT.

It's a hybrid with a CVT. Maybe they get away with it because the median age of the buyer is 84..lol

the fact is CVTs can handle considerable horsepower. What the magic number is in the Maxima I don't know

It ain't sitting on the CVT. And the new Altima comes with a turbo, guess that CVT won't last.

I would not trust it one bit. The other thing is the new VC turbo as well. Really worried Nissan is going to stick that 4 banger VC turbo in the next Maxima along with the CVT. My heart breaks even typing that.

I agree. The VQ is what set the car apart from the rest.....With out it, not the same appeal. That is why I will not own another Altima..........I would live with the CVT...not with out the VQ

Please take a video. I want to hear the cvt blow to pieces in little bits. You seriously bought the wrong car if you are wanting to mod like that. 31k could have got you a car that handles mods well.

300hp this car is not under powered. If you wanted more. Should have bought something else imo.

Try at your own risk.

you might be able to get away with it in quick burst to bring on the 300hp quicker, as long as you don't exceed it by much. Better get yourself a S trim that's already out of warranty if you wanna try that.

I've owned highly modified cars that were better suited for the track when they were "done" (you're never really done when you start down that rabbit hole). I'm certainly not going that route with my Maxima, but if that's what you want to do, don't let anyone discourage you. Put the wet shot on, I'd love to see it. Go with a turbo after that if you wish. Nobody really knows what the CVT will handle. Be the first to find out. Everything is rebuildable, replaceable and upgradeable if you have the funds.

You can spray it and it’ll be fine just make sure it’s a wet shot. Suggest fresh trans fluid and a cooler as well as everything else I mentioned.

If you want to dig into it for real, you can 6spd swap it and do anything else your heart desires.

The Lexus comes with a direct-shift CVT, so it has one gear for take-off before the CVT kicks in. This saves the torque from ripping apart that tranny.

Read this thread and then tell me if you want to add nitrous/turbo to your 8th Gen....

Two CVT transmissions and lots of $$/headaches later....
Read through the thread, paying special attention to posts #186 and #188
