Well, have fun - it might be as warm here as it is in California - that would be weird. I've been gathering nitrous parts - pulled the -4AN 16' hose outta the Shark, located a nice Shark nozzle ( ! ) and even an original fuel tap tee, and the 4AN adapter for the NX bottle. Gotta checkout the box of solenoids next.

Yesterday I began doing surgery on a spare fuel tank module to enlarge the supply and return plumbing to 1/2", up from the stock 1/4" ID. Not much room there... The Aeromotive 340 pump and 20' of 1/2" ID tubing is on order, as well. E85 conversion has begun!

After the car runs on gasoline, next will be the NGK 7438-8 plugs and the DW 440cc injectors. (and different nitrous fuel jets for E85). I'm taking the conversion one step at a time.

Found out the eclipse skipped timing and the motor bent valves. Don't have enough money to rebuild a motor right now, so I'm gonna part out the car. So I guess I won't need the nitrous parts now.

Nice, that's cool. Be interesting to tune the nitrous on E85. I wonder if reading the plugs is going to be much different?

Ouch - well at least I know where all the nitrous parts are located!

The plugs read about the same - look for a little grey on the insulator, check the burn ring on the ground strap, and be sure you have a center electrode on each plug !

Cool, good to know.
Next car I run nitrous on, I wanna use E85 as the fuel.

'cause...... I needed some new street tires anyway, and I'll need two different sizes of DRs for different Street Legal events, so I hung them on the car. I like 'em - and the car corners really really well now.

The Wichita IFO was really pretty good. The new track is really smooth, but the big boys were having launch problems. It needs more rubber at the starting line. A couple of KC groups showed (Allero Racing, Revline turbos), and one huge $200 grudge match came up. Top speed of the day was 171MPH, and a few 8-sec ETS were posted. One N/A Honda was clocking 10.6 ETs!

Wichita has a boatload of imports - and the line to get in at noon was at least 1/2 mile long. I met a few folks there from Kansas City - including both Turbo brothers. I did shoot some random pixs and videos - I'll go thru them for posting later.

Windy trip but oh well - it was fun..

Wichita IFO

I managed to take a few pix and videos at the Sunday IFO The wind was brutal, so the videos had some bad wind noise. I mostly just wanted to show the new track and a few passes, along with the really long line waiting to get in, and the huge sandpile across the road from the track. Looks like a new business going up...

The longest line - clear down to the buildings at the far end:

Modifying the fuel pump assembly

I have starting working on updating the fuel pump assembly for the Aeromotive 340 pump and -6AN connectors for fuel output and return. At the price of kinda burning up the first spare assembly, I think I have a good way to get it all done.

340 pump:

WOOPS!

I think that the plumbing is ready to heat up with a propane torch and push into the tank assembly. Since the output from the 340 is 3/8" I built the output adapter with 3/8" copper into a 6AN 90* adapter, but built the return pipe as 1/2" pipe back into the tank. With both sections of the new fuel supply and return lines being 1/2", and using a couple of 6AN stainless teflon lines at front and rear, this design should move a LOT of E85 back and forth.

I hope so.. I've finished installing both larger fuel passages - and just received the DW 440cc injectors as well. Some more pix attached.

These went into the fuel pump module:

Another step forward - notice that the two 6AN cables clear nicely. I still managed to toast the edges of the two connectors, but not so bad. A warning - the plastic will ignite easily and is impossible to blow out. If you do something similar, keep some water next to you. I filled in the open areas around the two pushed-in connectors - used JB 24hr epoxy, after roughing up the area around both of them. Tomorrow I'll check for leaks.

Tonight I finished the assembly of the fuel pump assembly, with the Aero 340 pump fitting perfectly in the OEM pump carrier with the OEM sock filter. I have another OEM assembly in the mail, so I can compare various clearances. Also cleaned off all the crud from the connectors and copper pipe.

I took off today and spent the day working on the new fuel system stuff. I measured how long the 6AN lines needed to be in both the front and rear, and went out to buy even more plumbing parts. I settled on two 1/2" hard copper lines instead on the soft copper. Once I really got under the car, I can see how to run two hard lines underneath the car and sweat-solder connectors on both ends of both lines. The rear supply and return can be done with two 24" 6AN stainless teflon hoses and the front can be connected with two 36" hoses of the same type.

I cut the two hard copper lines off at 7ft, and silver-soldered the 6AN connectors on the rear part, using blue threadlock.(gotta clean those joints before I'm done). I used 45* angle connectors so the 6AN hoses can meet up from the tank. The front will need 90* connectors for better routing up to the fuel filter and back from the regulator. There's lots more to do yet, and I just ordered a couple of 6AN 36" race hoses from Summitt. But - I now see how to make it all work. I sent the DW 440cc injectors to DW this morning for a complete test, and the NGK R7438-8 race plugs are ordered. I already have a replacement stainless filter cartridge for the Aeromotive canister filter - I think I have or will have everything I need by the end of next week.

While I'm waiting on the assorted 3ft 6AN stainless steel mesh lines to arrive, I changed the oil and filter (0W-40 Mobil 1 EP). Then I went to visit my trailer and other stuff at the storage company. I saw this truck sitting there, obviously in use. Do you think it would make a better tow truck for my Shark and 18ft dovetail car trailer?

I wonder .... how big of a shot of nitrous would that beast handle? I hear from the type of fender-mounted air cleaner you see there that the diesel has a blower mounted - so with that and a 1000-shot I bet all six tires would light up! Street Legal, here I come! You could literally smash Hondas !

Diesels love nitrous. I bet the motor would eat it up. The drivetrain on the otherhand, maybe not.

That thing looks like an old army 5ton. If it is it will probably handle anything that you decide to throw at it. Just remember there's no power steering, no seat belts, manual, and doesn't go over 45mph in it's stock state. lol!!

It's a monster.... I bet one of the rear axles weighs more than my car. It's called a deuce-and-a half, I think, referring to the load capacity of 5,000+ lbs. ( Wiki data ) and has been built since 1949 in many forms. Supposed to be a huge in-line six w/turbo and one of several transmissions - and it's freakin' HUGE! And this one is street-legal - in Kansas, anyway.... just some entertainment while I'm waiting for a bucket of parts to show up.

Lol!! Yep. I drove a few of those when I was in the army. They had pretty much replaced them all with there newer trucks by the time I joined. I thought they had deuce and a half's and 5 tons, but I could be wrong. Now pretty much National Guard and civilians are the only people with them. I've actually seen one in a neighborhood in Maryland. lol!!

So, are they fun to drive? Especially on the highway? There is a web site that sells these trucks... www.100dollarman.com and they seem to have a lot of inventory and different models available. Hmmmm... I wonder what it would cost to ship one from California to Kansas ??? Using one as a tow truck can't get much worse mileage than my 2003 Frontier pulling 5500 lbs of car and trailer - about 7 1/2 MPG... (and probably go faster) plus it would make a neat pit vehicle!

They're kind of like semi's. They have enough tq to rip a house off its foundation, but not enough hp to get past ~55mph. lol! They are geared for pulling and towing. We were told to always start in second gear unless we got stuck or had a load that was just that heavy. I don't remember what kind of gas mileage they got because I didn't drive them enough, plus when you're in the military you don't pay for the gas to fill those vehicle. The unit pays for their gas.

Oh, they'll be fused together and coated completely. The two lines will run down the same path as the OEM lines and be clamped to the body. I just need parts-in-hand to be sure of how the 6AN lines will lay out on both ends - and the straight 3ft 6AN lines are still pending shipment from Summit. The Aero fuel filter and FPR both use 6AN / 3/8" NPT fittings and I had to order a few 90* pieces for this project.

Did you know that 6AN lines from NX and Fragola are actually 4AN (1/4") inside diameter at the connector? I've been looking for 8AN prebuilt lines but there is none available. I'm not real happy about how much smaller the 6AN lines have measured out. This is true of other lines, as well, but going from 3/8" ID down to 1/4" ID is .... disappointing....

I figured.... a special problem in the northern states. eh?

I got the 440cc DW injectors back today from the DW checkout. All six still worked very well. The six varied in static flow by 1.8% total. Flow rates were from 435cc/min to 442cc/min, with passing grades in Leak Test, Spray Pattern, OHMS, Ramp times, and Voltage Load. Very impressive results for injectors with about 20,000 miles on them. I bought them from VQmagic as used injectors, and he had been pleased with them.

They'll be going into my car for startup with E85 when the plumbing is finished.

The new spark plugs showed up on Friday. I got these from Race-Mart who had the best price I could find. You have to buy a box of four, not individual plugs, so I have eight of them. Ain't cheap, either. A few photos of the boxes, what the plugs look like at the tip, and a comparison shot on the racing plug next to an OEM plug. These are heat-range 8 - there is also a heat-range 9 available.

The last pair of 6AN 3ft hoses are supposed to be here on Tuesday. Maybe I can finally start putting things together. I intend to put the entire fuel system together first and test it with gasoline, to check for leaks.

I finished the fuel lines today and tested the pump, lines and hoses. First I blew out everything with nitrous, because it was fun. Used a 12-volt battery to run the Aero 340 pump. Everything seems to work and hold pressure - I guess I'm ready to install everything. I think....

Just a comment - I hung the new fuel lines and tried test fits on the rear and front 6AN fines. The rear hoses will work fine, but the 3-ft 6AN hoses for the front turned out to be too long. I ordered a pair each of 12", 18", and 24" 6AN hoses, but still have only received the 24" hoses. Seems that Summit doesn't always have things in stock, and so reply on the manufacturer to ship things now - and they still haven't been shipped - from NX. Shoulda bought from Jegs....

I'm still waiting on the NX Maximizer 4 nitrous controller, as well. NX has posted the download and setup instructions on their web site, but my Feb. 24th order is still hanging out there. Bummer. Here's a link to that page - the Max 4 downloads are at the bottom. Any nitrous guys should read the Installation and User manual. It really does have real-time A/F management while spraying!

Progress is crazy slow - nobody stocks 6AN lines - at least, not Summit "your order will be shipped from the manufacturer". Today I figured out how to lengthen the two ft 6AN hoses. I have some 6AN-3/8 NPT adapters, and I bought some 3/8"NPT-1/2" copper sweat fittings, so I can just make extensions for both the supply and return lines, and get the connections just right! Duh. I sure wish I had thought of this a week ago.

I still don't have any shipping notice on the Max 4 - NX hasn't answered my Email about my Feb. 24th order. Any decisions on Maximizers will have to wait until I get the new one working. "parts in hand", you know.

Good thinking on the plugs - sure, I'll sell the two extra to you. I still have one more, just in case. $65 shipped for the pair? I'm still not used to these prices....

How's your car coming? Got a chance to wup up on Aaron yet?
