Is there a self-diagnostics for the engine of a 1990 max, or do you have to hook up a OBD reader?. Or will an OBD even work on it? I still havent passed emmisions.

I took my car to a mechanic to do the CV axles. He said he couldn't put in the synthetic ATF that I supplied because conventional and synthetic fluids will separtate.

Is this true?

i told my dad about that one he couldn't get enough. the best part is they kept trying to sell us the one for the automatic. Moral: when you find a good parts person hang up the phone if they are not available.

aww i'm in yur siggy

but yea... that's why if i want to get the right part the first time, i always go to see Nathan at the Holly Park AdvanceAuto. That dude is no joke. Glad to see they promoted him to management.

Now if i can just get another 2 hours before it starts raining again i just might be able to put my UIM on and start my car! everything else is done (minus topping off PS fluid and coolant)

yea. as long as the bottle says it is compatible with dexronIII (might say it in tiny print on the back) it will work.

if you still wanna deal with all that, it looks like your ride will take it alright. how much clearance is there inside the rear wells? if you dropped it that far, would it hit? how about the front? you can always have a shop roll your fenders for added clearance.

The tires im getting are 215/45/17s So im thinking that that will give me a lot more clearance. And yes 300zmax, im mostly going for the look. The bounce im not concerned with. I think my azz will be quite alright lol . I mean, i understand that its a 18 year old car, so im already expecting shlt to break. I guess it'll help me learn how to fix it that much quicker lol . Then this summer im gettin it twin-turboed wit Naws!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jk

except that nothing can fix the geometry once you drop it. well.. it COULD be fixed, but the parts to do so don't currently exist, and, depending whether those few people who can/would make the parts ever feel like making them for 3g's, may not ever exist. basically you need the control arm to have an extended adjustible balljoint that also pushes the angle of the arm back down some, so that you gain neg camber instead of gaining pos camber when the suspension compresses. also you would then need a tierod location so that the tierod and LCA are parallel to one another, otherwise you will have bumpsteer. go read some of the stuff matt93se has written in the 'Advanced Suspension, Chassis, & Braking' section. you'll learn alot.

i forget who has what drop (besides 1.2 for eibach) but matt himself said 'you can't drop past 1.5" on these cars [maximas] before you start going backwards in the handling department'

plus i heard that you will chew up your axles more with a low low drop.. cuz they're always angled. and you will wear out your tires quicker with a low low drop too.

And thus the great debate

Turbos are not free power as well, they are like a potato in the muffler till they spool. all depends on the application.

it doest take that much power to run a SC. the problem is they run all the time so you are almost always on the boost.

heh, i don't care too much about arguing about it. i'm not aversed to S/C... i just felt like stirring up the coals a little. i heard that the Merc McClaren 630HP whatever-it-is Coupe loses 16% of its power to the S/C (that is, 120/(120+630)=16%).

My headlights dim, radio turns off and my dashboard lights fade while I am driving. When I hit the accelerator everything turns back on. I need a jump to start the engine. I just put in a new battery. Thoughts? Is this the alternator?

it may be, or you have some corrosion on the alternator connectors. you don't say where you hail from, so I am going to assume the US. Most popular parts places will test your alty for proper output for free, so you may consider taking it there.
but it sounds like the alty to me...

Yea yo. But this is the only major modded Max that I know of. I actually have his vid on my Myspace page, so i see it like everytime i get on there lol. He has to have at least $5,000+ in that. Im talkin like access wise, we dont have a lot of mods and products to choose from. We have to do a lot of fabrication or custom work.

My car did exactly the same thing. My car actually died in the middle of an intersection. Me and my uncle had to push it. I was so embarrassed lol. We found out that it was my alternator pulling from the battery. For $80 i went to Advanced Auto with my old alternator and got a refurbushed one. Havent had a prob since

i actually have one of these tho. it came out of a furnace iirc. never tried it. maybe it would work on a really really really small engine (like a 1cyl lawn mower) but there's no way in (or out of) hell that that crap would work on a car engine. not enough air, and uses too much power per unit of air moved.

I really think it looks like a waste of time and money lol i rather buy a "Intake" intake if u know what i mean I just wanted to know what u guys thought about it because they were trying to sell it on ebay when i was searching for things for my car but Im getting some new fenders from the junk yard and i got one question

::::::QUESTIONS ARE::::::::::::::
89-94 Maximas have same body? will then fenders fit right on with no problem? also would it be a good idea to take a trunk lid also?

haha, the electric turbo is total bs. i was just joking if i said anything that indicated i thought it was legit. i just found an electric blower in the shed a few years ago - i didn't buy it off ebay. and no i'm not ever gonna try to use it on a car.

but yea all years have the same fenders and stuff. basically all body and interior pieces are the same, with the exception of the airbag steering wheels vs non-airbag steering wheel.

Took about an hour and a half to get ot off, and about 15 minutes to install the "new" one. I think I went on Autozone to get the instructions. Not sure... But you just remove the splashguard, take the belt off the alternator, and theres like 4/5 bolts. once to take the ones off the holding the alternator theres one with a screw on it that makes it swivel out of place once you loosen it. You take that off and unplug the wires and its off!
