*NOOBIES* The "I am new here, but have a question" thread..(post your questions here)
Swapped over SE tails and spoiler and the rear disk setup(yes car is going to be repainted)

I've owned over a dozen Z cars. Heres some of my other cars to give you guys an idea of the Nissan in me.

Like I said this ain't my first boat ride.

oic... you're actually doing alot of the stuff to that car that i did to mine (SE ****-end swap, disc swap, 5spd swap). btw there is a thread here about using 86 z31 rear calipers for a 1" upgrade. will clear stock wheels by a HAIR with a tad of filing. o and on the 5spd swap most everyone gets rid of the loopy junction... we go straight from mcyl to slavecyl.
my only question (which most people in here won't like to see).... after a dozen z cars, why NOW a 4-door FWD car?

Well I take my hobby serious and by that I mean I like to play for money. Its hard to make a sleeper out of a Z and I like to line up with some young rich honda guys and they're not that stupid. So, I chose a different platform that runs the vg since I have considerable knowledge of it already. Also if I pop it I have more than one spare to drop in its place. It was either this or a boosted hardbody.
heres a link to my fresh high compression turbo build I did over the winter.

but you can definitely get a turbo VG 3rd gen into the 12's, which should be enough to shut your friends up.
My Brembo Rotors (blanks)..... Need help ASAP
I need to know if there is an OBD-I port for my 89 Maxima and where it's located. I'm having issues with it cranking up (not running, it runs fine, but it takes longer than usual to start up) and I'm going to see if the car is throwing any codes. Thanks.
meh, just use the screw-on-the-ecu method. sure it just blinks at you instead of writing it out in words, but you can do it with nothing but a screwdriver.
My dad has a Snap-On reader which he is inclined on using. That's why I ask.
I need an aftermarket front bumper if anyone has an extra. Preferably a stillen. If the price is right I'll buy the body kit. Has any one went with a coilover setup on their max? I would like to do the serial nine setup and run the 09 350z track wheels or 370z wheels if I could find a pair.
there is a diagnostic port over by the hood release latch/fuse panel, it is tucked up around the release cable i think. i don't know if that is compatible with the scanner your dad has tho, but it's the only semblance of a code-reader port that we have.

You would have to reuse the maxima spindles and weld them on serial nine s13 coilovers. Guys are doing it in the Z's. But your right I don't think it would be worth it. Since its fwd I'm going to 1st run the gxe suspension and if its to soft I'll go to the SE springs and new shocks. Motor and trans is out! Passenger side cv axle bearing carrier was a *beep*. I'll post some pics later. Now I'm going to change the timing belt, tensioner, and stud, water pump, new alt., power steering lines, new belts, spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor. I'm also going to throw on the fly wheel and south bend six puck.

technically i suppse you could cut and weld but that's massively beyond the capabilities of most people, plus, the S is a much lighter car so you would have to make sure that the springs you were using were gonna be the right springrate (perhaps if they are progressive you can just pre-compress them until they have the right starting number. not sure if that is *proper* methodology or not.)
anyhow just go for eibachs and konis. 1.2" drop, good handling, camber curves still start negative like they're supposed to, and a non-punishing ride. and the konis are adjustible.
My dad has several adapters and a friend of his has the programming for the Maxima, so it should work. I'll take a look around the hood release.
Well just in case the scanner doesn't work, any ideas on what could be causing my starting issues? It happened right after I replaced all of my injectors with new ones (not remans). Before I swapped injectors, it was basically a half a second of turning the key to crank the car up. Now it's a couple of seconds before it fires up. The car has no idle issues and runs very strong. Plugs, wires, rotor/cap ect have been checked and they were last replaced after my recent rebuild (about 6000 miles ago). Normally the extra cranking time wouldn't bother me so much, but it seems to put a strain on my battery; it's already died on me twice.
I'm 3 hours away from Indy. I travel there alot to pick up Z cars and what not. Ive also been out your way a few times to pick up a Z or 2. I f you ever see a 300zx around you area give me a call and there might be a finders fee in it for you!
d2 makes a set of coilovers for 3rd gen max's. they run from 800 to a g. they are made you just need to know where to find them.

I'm pretty sure my alternator went bad yesterday since My car won't start and does the "click, click, click" sound when turning the key. I was able to boost it and bring it to a friends house not far away (wasnt home when it happened) While driving the car seems to die, ie. Rpm's go up and down and lights seems weaker than usual.
This all happened when I did a small 'burnout' in the parking lot. Would doing this kill my alternator? Or could it just of made a wire loose between the batt and alty? or could it be something else?
I haven't really had time to look at it. My friend took one of the terminals off the batt to see if the car would die, and it did die as soon as he took it off. He told me he's pretty sure it's my alty.

Quick queation for someone that has done the auto 2 manual swap. Can I use the automatic axles? Capedcadaver you said I need to change the passenger side axle bearing carrier? After looking at both they look the same and I'm looking at someone elses wright up on the swap and they don't mention the axles or bearing carrier. Any insight thanks!

if you think i am full of it, order a set. it would only cost you "$700 to $900" if I am wrong
(then again, it would cost you between $900 and $1100 if I am right)

those are not for the 3rd gen maxima
pretty sure if you search the .org, there's a thread on this.. i remember reading something back last summer, and a fellow .orger actually sent them a letter/email for them to correct the fact that those coilovers are actually ffor the A31 cefiro.
Cefiro chassis code: A31
Maxima Chassis Code: J30
Cefiro chassis code: A31
Maxima Chassis Code: J30
use the search button on the top of the page, lots of guys on here have done 5 speed swaps, and since your auto is dead you can use this as an excuse to do the swap yourself.
questions, questions and more questions
Whats up guys I just bought a 94 maxima se and I have been serching for parts but they seem to be far and few between. I want fully adjustable aftermarket performance everything suspension wise but I just cant seem to find much at all. Also when I bought the car the previous owner gave me another DOHC VE with 40000 M but when I began to search for cams, turbos etc I found nothing. My goal hp wise for this motor is around 310 w/boost, can anyone send me a link with a site that will provide me with the assitance in reaching this. I currently live in Sierra Vista Az and one company I found (thanks to this site) was Cattmans which is based out of Tucson which was good news for me but when I called the number was disconected!? I need help big time ty for taking the time to read this thread.

there is virtually no aftermarket performance parts for the 3rd gen at all. No coil over suspension. you can get Koni inserts which are adjustable but htis about as far as it goes.
No Cams no turbo kits
94 maxima
I bought a 94 maxima for $100 (there is a god) and so far its been great. Everything works the auto trans seems to be good. Since I have owned it I have put over 10k miles on it bringing it to 163xxx. I'm trying to find a replacement carpet, hood supports, weatherstripping, an exhaust, seats (leather if possible), and was toying with the idea of adding a little performance. Any suggestions or help would be awesome. Thanks

u will also most likely need an ecu jwt makes a great non adjustable but nismo makes a fully adjustable laptop ecu
and the transmision will need a stronger clutch for added torque ACT,fidanza, and exedy are all great
....but there no coilovers or turbo kits for a VE

find a good performance shop, someone who is good with custom turbo's and superchargers and everything else, i have a guy where i live that will fully make a custom turbo for about 2g's and a supercharger for about $2600, these arent bad figures really for a fully custom job, it can be done, hell anything can be done, just need to find the right guy to do it, as was said the the VG engine is a lot easier to work with, but seriously now, we all know it will be more fun if its a ***** to accomplish
