The dimples are wear indicators, when they are completely gone, it's time for new rotors..

I can build you a turbo kit if the price is right. It would have to be installed by you unless you bring the car to me but I can fab the Y charge pipe, down pipe, hotpipe/intercooler pipeing. Its actually quite simple.

Bringing the Maxima Back to Life

So I have been working on my Maxima for a while now since it finally died on me. I almost have it all back together now except I have two hoses left that I got mixed up. They are between the throttle body and the AAC valve. So if someone could take a pick of that hose entaglement area I would be truly grateful. oh BTW it's a 90 VG30E

are you referring to the two small vac lines under the TB or the big lines from the intake elbow?

a bit of a general question but would it be hard to swap the stock 92 GXE seats for some Sparco street seats? the car audio show is coming in a week and theyre going to have rims and seats as well for dirt cheap and i figure thats the time to get a pair of Sparco's. would i need new side rails or anything?

Hello, I've had an account here for a while, and I couln't post, I always figured something was wrong and I'm not allowed to, and I just today figured out that I need to make 15 posts before I can post a thread... :P

Ok, so I have a 92 Maxima, I did an engine and tranny swap, I swapped the VG30D engine for the VE30dE, and the transmission from auto to 5 speed. There have been lots of kinks, but I have been fixing everything slowly and everything is looking smooth, the car is very powerful and I have high hopes for my maxima

The biggest problem I have right now is rough idling. The car idles at ~700 rpm, and the needle keeps jumping up and down and eventually stalls. Twice it happened to me that the car stalled and wouldn't turn on anymore, and I had to tow it both times. After I leave it overnight, the car starts again...

I'm still not sure what's causing this, but I have two ideas, either the fuel pressure regulator, or the PCV valve. The pcv valve is ~$5 so I want to replace it and see what happens, but I can't for the life of me figure out where it is located on the VE engine!

If anyone can please give me a picture with an arrow pointing at the PCV valve, I would really appreciate it, I'm going crazy trying to find it.

also, if you h ave other ideas about what could be the problem or how to diagnose it, please help. I already took it to a mechanic, and he told me it's the gas pump, I replaced it and the problem is still the same. Please help me, and thanks in advance

Hey john, the pcv valve is right here on the ve---> http://forums.maxima.org/6161957-post3.html

Sounds like you might have a bad mass air flow sensor, crappy idle, stalling is consistant with the maf being defective..Just unplug the maf harness and take it for a low rpm spin(the engine will not rev over 2500rpm with the maf unplugged) if it idles smoother and doesn't stall, replace the maf, but first make sure the harness plug is clean of any corrosion..

Other things to check are all your sensor connectors for corrosion (green crap) and make sure all the vacuum lines are in good shape and in the right place..

so i still have the paaapoof sound coming from my exhaust when the cars at idle. plugs, airfilter, oil, pcv were replaced and i checked the comp at school with the scanner we have. and it came up with the coil having a fault. i swapped it with my friends and it didnt change.

91 vg with factory moded intake tube and drilled box, and a custom 2 1/4 catback with just a resonator. premier head unit and a kicker amp with alpine type s speakers

plans: paint factory rims black, cutsom intake, flip out colant line from throttle body delete

Yea the two vac lines under the throttle body. I know where the other two sides are but I don't know if the one closer to the firewall goes to the right one under the TB or the left one under the TB.

yes, unless you want to go modding to make things fit.

Hey guys. I have a 90 maxima se 5 speed. there are bearings going bad within the trans as well as the throw out bearing. I want to replace these parts or maybe the whole thing. i was wondering if there are different 5 spd transmissions for the 3rd gen max. if so, what one will i need?

motor mount Question

i have an 04 max and need to replace the front motor mount But there is a wire coming out of it. I would like to know if this wire is a sensor or something else, and if i can replace it with a after market mount without a wire.

Post this question in the 6th gen forum mang, we don't have any wires coming out of our motor mounts on 3rd gen maximas..

only difference in trannies is the engine they're attached to. 89-91 is the VG like you have, and 92-94 is the VE engine w/ VLSD trans. if you want to use the VLSD one you can bolt pattern is identical but some bolt sizes are different between the 2), you just need the hubs and axles off the VE car as well.

throwout bearing takes 1 minute to install once the tranny is down. comes as part of any clutch kit.

awesome. at the moment its just my winter car. i have a cbr600 and a sv650 that i ride during these warmer months, and i have my autocross integra that i take out on occasion. so its probably not going to be a sports project at the moment. but if i run across a VE motor with the VLSD then plans might change.

thx for the info. i will definitely stick around on the forum so i can learn more!

well if you are in a snowy-ish area (or really for any reason at all) you're gonna like to have the VLSD on your winter car. protip: try your best to get the shifter yoke off the new tranny, and replace that oil seal on the striking rod. mine was rusted on, and i leak about a teaspoon of tranny fluid a day, running or off. and of course new axle seals. of course at the parts counter remember to call your car a "1993 SE (DOHC)" at the parts counter when getting any parts for the tranny, to ensure you get the right parts and not the ones for the VG or the 4th gen (sometimes they pretend 94's are 4th gens... no idea why). i've had to remember to call my car all sorts of different things at parts stores for all the mix-n-matchery i've done over the years.

there is a lot of good info in these posts that are replies, import-boy. I can almost promise you that, much like our replies about the "maxima coilovers," this will help alot if you read, take notes of what is said (there is an accumulation of many years of experience with these cars, so somebody ought know what is what).
that said, based on what you have explained, you have a misfire. double check your fire, by doing what caped said above, then check your injectors, as internetautomar suggested (should test out between 10 and 14 ohms each). you will most likely find the cause somewhere in there.

also, gotta ditto what greeny said about video. wanna hear this to be 100% sure, vs. my current, 98% sure.

first try removing the IACV (the actual name for the 'idle solenoid' someone told you about) and cleaning it. it's the sort of can-shaped thing on the battery-side of the intake manifold. they usually get carbon buildup in them over the years. post back if cleaning it doesn't help. we'll go from there.

Thanks, I did a search before posting, and I looked at that picture, but I'm still confused on where it is... I'm looking everywhere, I can't find the thing on my engine :P If you can please give me a better picture I would really appreciate it. And no, it's not the maf, that was the first thing I tried, I have the old one from the vg engine, and that didn't do anything. I'll take some pictures later and try to show you guys what I have going on, there are a few things that I'm not quite sure are done right, maybe you can look at your VEs and tell me. Thanks in advance.

Ok, pics of the question areas would help us if you need help with posting pictures, i have a picture posting instruction sticky also--> http://forums.maxima.org/3rd-generat...step-here.html

The pcv valve is on the back side of the rear cylinder head, closest to the passenger side strut tower and power steering hose..

So I finally got moved back home from school for the summer and started messing with my newest max.

The problem is the brakes. There is no leak in the line, fluid is full and if I pump the brake pedal a for a bit...they do bite. But if I let it set for a minute or two the pedal pushes right to the floor.

Its this my brake master cylinder? I have a parts car so I think I'm just gonna swap it over a see what happens...if it doesn't fix it no harm no foul. But I figured I'd see what you guys think too.

sounds like the master to me. look for marking on the booster indicating a leak.

Oh wow thanks alot, that is NOT where I was looking at all... Thank you so much!
Does the VG pcv valve fit on the VE? I bought a new one for the from auto zone, and they gave me a PLASTIC valve, that has no threads.. Edit: In fact, the one I got is the same one in the second picture of the thread you linked...

I know how to post pictures thanks
I'm just very busy at the moment, I have a huge test for my college this Friday, and my girlfriend is leaving on Monday for a three month vacation, and I'm trying to spend as much time with her as I can, so I'm just using another car at the moment and not working on the max until the 12th.
I'll try to replace the valve today though.
Thank you very much!

Yup, they gave you the vg pcv valve, no it will not fit the ve engine, you need to always specify VE30DE when ordering parts, otherwise they will almost always give you VG30E parts..

no, it's not the VG, I specified it's for the DOHC, it's just plastic...
I tried pep boys first (they are across the street from my house), and they had the metal one, but i didn't get it because it was for the VG.
I have the old VG engine in my guarage, and I see the only difference is the hose connection is bigger on the VG.

But the one I bought from auto zone was plastic, it says pcv valve on the box, but I'm not sure if it is that..

Anyway, I tried to get it out, and it's in a crazy location, I can't even get my pliers around the clamp! I'm gonna have to go get me some new tools

I tried pep boys first (they are across the street from my house), and they had the metal one, but i didn't get it because it was for the VG.
I have the old VG engine in my guarage, and I see the only difference is the hose connection is bigger on the VG.

It's mislabeled\ or mis-categorized in their system then, all aftermarket ve pcv valves are metal..

Should look like this.

Yes, It is a pita to get the hose off the pcv..some long needle nose pliers make it a little easier.
