NOOBIES: "I AM NEW HERE BUT HAVE A QUESTION" thread. Read FIRST post BEFORE posting!
A few posts back, Ive explained a noise, a low groan coming from my new powersteering. It is a cardone and prolly reman'd.
I talked to a mechanic, he said it's probably the way the rebuilder did the valves and is common. As long as the noise doesn't get louder, it should be ok.
But he said you could use some Lucus for ps's and it would quiet it up some.
Any experiences about doing this?

In my experiance using Lucas (and i use it in everything) it will definatly prolong the life of whatever it is in, however as far as quieting your PS, I'm not sure how well that would work. It's likely that it could since it seems to make the fluids thicker (for lack of a better word) and it holds to moving parts better.
As far as using the Lucas PS Stop Leak (the only product that i know they have with the words "power stearing" in it) Here is a quote from LucasOil.com :
"It is 100% guaranteed or your money back. It is also totally effective in reducing slack, squeals, and hard spots in worn rack and pinions. Your results will be immediate and long lasting."
As a long time lucas customer i can only recomend that you try it. If nothing else it wont "hurt" anything.
Another product you might want to look at would be just adding a little of the normal Lucas Oil Stabaliazer instead, especialy if you dont have any leaks.

1156 or 1157
blue tinted bulbs will get rid of the yellow look.
Drop the caps, seriously.
Well it probably won't idle worth a damn, you'll be down on power, get crap MPG, and you'll end up destroying your converter.
If you're having symptoms of a problem, you'll get a much better diagnosis by posting the symptoms, not what you may think the cause is.

By 'feels like a spark plug is not working', do you mean it misfires, runs rough, lacks power, what?
Oh, I have these blue bulbs I don't know the brand but you can find them in any Schucks store. There should be a section for regular bulbs and such and then a section for "performance" things like orange tint bulbs, blue tint bulbs, and just in case you need to know our clear corners use a 1157 bulb the ones with two nubs. The blue really shows if you do the bulb mod, where you trim off the higher nub thingy on the side of the bulb and then put it in backwards.
I need some advice, I have been adjusting my e-brake handle and when I first got the car, the e-brake would go up 20-30 clicks and still not stop the car, after adjusting it for the first time, it went down to about 5-15 clicks, and I could feel a strong tension in the nut when I adjusted it, and after I tried to get the clicks down even lower, the tension all of a sudden went away, and I could turn it for as much as I want to make it tighter and it won't get tougher to turn like it did before, although the lowest I could get it to was 10 clicks. I don't know if I started to turn the bolt onto the cable itself or if the thread on the nut is broken. But I can't feel any tension, and when I looked behind the rear tire I found where the cable meets the brakes but I didn't find any adjusting bolt or anything.
Should I release the bolt or just leave it alone and not try to make the handle any lower?
Sorry about the term mixup, I used the words bolt and nut in there to mean the same thing, sorry

Checked the battery? Connections? Hit the starter? Tested the starter?
Did it just one day not start? Do the dash lights and everything come on, then go off when you turn the key to the start position?
Thanks for a fast respond. I see that I should put more info in here.
Checked battery, charged it and cheked the connections.
Havent tryed hitting the starter yet (Not shure on where it is..)
Havent tested the starter.
Just one day, after staying still some few days, it wouldt start.
Everything in the dashboard lights up like normal, and everything goes off when trying to start.
I have notised that the clock has reset itselv, dont know if it has something to say.

If you remove the intake plumbing, it's easy to see.
You can see it here:
A small update.
Tryed with jumpercables, no start, still just clicking.
Lights in dashboard are on when strying to start the car. Clock is not resetting more and I just get a clicking sound.
Tryed tapping the starter with no luck.
Urgent need for help.

Anyway, I would pull it out and bench test it (well I would try something else first, but you should just pull it).
Is there anyway your alternator or starter or whatever is not getting power? When I accidentally used up all the power in my battery one day, it wouldn't start and when I did try to start it all I heard was just clicking

'97 maxima SE Horn chirp
Hi all, I bought my '97 maxima about 5 years ago from a fellow i used to work with at the time. It seems that when he would come to work and use the remote to lock the doors i would hear the horn chirp. When i purchased the car it never really occurred to me until now lol that it does not do it. Seems i read somewhere that pressing the lock & unlock buttons at the same time will either able or disable this chirp and the hazard lights should flash. I have tried this however it doesn't seem to be working. The lock , unlock , panic & trunk buttons on the remote all work so i do not think its defective.. Any suggestions on getting it to work...
Also another question that i have been wondering for quite some time is the feature that rolls down the front windows with the remote. Is their a way to roll them up with the remote as well?

No, the factory system will not roll the windows up.
Have you ever watched how long the hazards are on for when you lock/unlock? Now imagine the horn going off for that amount of time every single time you approached or left your vehicle.
Loud and annoying, it wouldn't be long before you changed it back to stock.
There's a reason no one uses the horn.

Read the forum before posting questions, it could very well save your time.
For example, top of the first page: http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...2-sensors.html
Which means that bank 2 would also be referred to as the left bank or the front bank.
B2S1 is the front O2 sensor in the Y.
pmohr, just went have the Maxima aligned and it was brought to my attention that the 17" Arelli Q rims that have been on the car since i have owned it are warped. I guess im going to have to buy another set. Where is the best cheapest place to buy chorme rims online? I checked out tirerack.com but most all the rims listed have to much void in them for my tatse such as narrow spoke type designs.

But mostly just google.
They do this with the factory key fob, it is 1 for driver 2 for the rest of the doors and they lock again after ~30 seconds if you don't open 1 of the doors.
Starting Problems
I have a question. I have a 1996 Maxima GLE. About two years ago, I had to wiggle the key to start the car. Eventually, it would not even start. I installed a ignition switch and it worked perfect. This all started about a week ago, the car would start in the morning. I sometimes could drive it to different stores and it would crank. However yesterday, I started it in the morning and drove to a store. When I got back in to start the car, it would not start. Tried wiggling the key and still no starting. Tried the battery cables, still no luck. About 6 hours later, my dad took me to get the car and it cranked right up. It seems that when it is dead cold, it will start and after starting it up, and getting hot, it will not start until it cools down. Takes about 6 hours to cool down. I hear no clicking, just the dash lights light up and the radio plays. I replaced the starter last year. What is causing this?

If it's not trying to start, have you tried starting the car in gear lever positions other than Park?
Have you tested the starter? Where did you get it from?
