When I replaced them I got the wrong plugs and bought 'one step colder' NGK irridium plugs (BKR6EIX-11).

Is there anything bad that this could be doing to my car? I do not have turbo, sc, or nitrous.
Maybe some slight (unnoticeable) power loss, but other than that, nothing.

my car is at 84k miles on its original spark plugs. i don't plan on keeping my car for another 100k miles so im going to get some NGK copper spark plugs. i read that I would need to gap them to .043. How about do i do this?

Also, I read that the NGK Platinum plugs come pre-gapped, is this true?

All VQ NGK plugs do. (Come pre-gapped).

I've never had to gap a single set of plugs for either my Maximas.

what tires would you all recommend? also is there a group deal or site i could purchase 4 new tires from cheap or should i just go through sam's club or costco??
Definitely Costco FTW!

If they have what you are looking for in your size that is. Costco carries or can get most BF Goodrich and Michelin tires. If you have stock 17's and are looking for 225/50/17, you cant go wrong with the michelin pilot sport A/S. They are a bit on the expensive side but from what i hear, they are worth the money. If you arent worried about snow, the BFG G-force sports are pretty cheap ($110 each) and have decent reviews. You could also have them order the BFG g-force super sport A/S and try those out.

I just saw that they finally came out with the BFG Traction T/A in that size as well. They could probably order that for you as well. That is a great all season tire IMO.

To do your research on which tires, use www.tirerack.com

I'm new to all of these mod's and still learning daily Tires seem to be an easy decision but whats the difference between 215 to 225 and up?? Is the size 215 just there recommendation. will going to a larger tire effect anything on my car? again everything is bone stock. I def. want to get something worth the money.

i have a stock 3.0 5th gen with 141k, my friend is cleaning out his garage and asked if i wanted his 5.5 SE B pipe and muffler they only have 50k on them

my question is, are there any benefits to swap them?

i can only think of these 3
exhaust might sound different/deeper
might gain some horse
benefit of having parts with less miles ie rust.

thanks

I have another thing to add to this, when it says 215/50/ZR17 what exactly does the 50 mean??? If i used a 225 or 215/45/ZR17 would it not fit on a rim that suggests 215/50/17???

is it true that NGK plugs come pre-coated from the factory, and putting anti seize would be unecessary and may cause some sort of chemical reaction? I read that from somewhere and just wanted to make sure.

You can also check out the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires. Definitely a lot less than the Pilot Sports. Just recently replaced the Yokohama 520s I had in front with the MXM4's and there is a noticable improvement in off the line traction (especially when the road it wet) and how quickly the steering responds. I paid $119 each at Discount Tire.

thanks all for the tire input. i wasnt aware of all of the information retaining to tire specs. but im still a little confused after reading the tirerack's website. as stated previsouly if i go with a larger tire 225/50/17 on a stock rim, will that cause any problems that i need to be aware of?

How wide is the stock wheel?

Again, use the Tirerack website, find the tire you like and want to purchase, look at the tire specs, and in that spec sheet you will find a list of minimum wheel widths to go with that said tire.

It's not that hard.

IMO, 225-50 looks fine on a 17x7.

Radio Size

I've searched for hours and can't find out what size a non-Bose radio is. I'm looking to get a Double DIN nav system to replace my 03 SE's factory tape/CD/Radio. When I look it up on Crutchfield, it says that the 03's can't take a Double DIN, which annoys me as I'm really digging this one I want to buy. Anyone know if it'd fit, and if so, will I have to do any mods to the thing it's connected to that holds it in place? (obviously, I'm using technical terms to sound smarter here ) Will I be able to reuse the current trim around the radio or will I need to get a 'blank' one?

Sorry for my lack of technicality, this'll be the first time I've ever put a non-factory system in a car.

Is it worth spending 200$ for a short ram intake? like one of those weapon R ones or http://www.berktechnology.com/shop/p...History=basket

Is there any way to buy a filter and attach it somehow to the stock one for like 40$?

some people think its worth it...there isnt any noticeable performance gains but the sound is nice and it looks nice in the engine bay. most common on here is the berk one...thats what i have.

Your not paying just to put a filter on it. You are also paying for a smooth pipe as opposed to the restrictive rubber midpipe. I have an Injen intake on my 3.5. At first I ran the the whole cold air tubing but I lost bottom and top end. I took off the cold air tube and just ran the upper tube. 10x better. Gained back bottom and and top end. Short ram FTW.

'01 Maxima SE - AUTO DIGITAL Climate Control:

I need to replace the three bulbs in the AUTO DIGITAL climate control. Three quick questions:

1) Does the stereo need to come out in order to get the climate control out. Are they connected by a bracket?
2) Once I get it out, are the screws obvious that get the face plate of the climate controls
3) Any write ups on getting the climate control out on an '01

I put down my best dyno numbers by using an AutoZone ricer filter directly on my MAF. I wouldn't recommend this w/o proper knowledge, since it's not that simple, but, in short, a good intake is more than just a filter.

This is my first post, and I'm sure I'm gonna tell someone to tell me to search sometime.

But I just came into ownership of a 00 Maxima GXE. What would be the first thing you guys would work on, aesthetics or performance? I also want wheel. I know the patterns. Does anyone recommend that 350z wheels?

English?

Most people will always say performance. Brakes and suspsension first.

I'm all for performance, i like that people who pull up next to me think that my car is slow (or has bad performance) because it doesn't LOOK fast...then i just smile when i try to see them in my rearview

Thanks

Thank you for the replies regarding using 93 octane fuel. I just came back from the station and filled up with 93. It feels pretty much the same, but if its better than so be it.

Any tips on resetting my computer, e.g., how would I do this and is there any downside to doing it?

Thanks in advance, Tom

Same here. I used to have a '77 Cutlass with a 350 and all the bolt-ons but I still have the whitewall tires that were on the car when I bought it. Really fun blowing the doors off people with what looked like a grandma car. Ended up going with 60 series blackwalls on the factory rally wheels. Few months later, I swapped a 455 into it. Rubber from a 20 mph roll with horrible 2.73 gears.

Same deal with my Maxima, going to leave the stock wheels and muffler on the car so I don't get revved on by every ricer in town and so cops don't give my car a second glance and most importantly, so other drivers go when I leave them in the dust.

Thank you for the replies! I think I'm going to go for the performance. What would be some of the first cost friendly additions you would make? (Keep in mind I'm a full time college student so exhaust systems and such take some time lol)

If you're a full time college kid, party, screw, drink, and mod your car after college. modding isn't cheap, that's the point.
