I adjusted all 4 corners today since they had changed a tad bit, with the rears both not 1/4" higher than the fronts. I had to lower the front passenger to match to driver about a 1/4" and since doing that I noticed the same noise when i turned all the way to the right. That is why I say I think it has to do with being low.

Anyways..onto the video. It's still optimizing so bad quality for now. Should get better.

Again, the ONLY time this happens is going very slowly over a bump and when the wheel is maxed turned. If I don't max turn it it doesn't make a noise.

Im not sure exactly what that noise it is but my car does the exact same thing every morning at the Dunkin drive thru. Wheel locked all the way left and once i start to accelerate there's a dip in the pavement and when i hit it it sounds like that to the T. Haven't been able to check it out yet but i don't think it's Coilover related. I need tie rod ends and a ball joint i know for sure so maybe try checking those first.

Wow that's weird, and loud!

What does it feel like when that happens? Does the car twitch or jerk in any way?

It kinda sounds like (of course I could be way off) the c.v. joint is binding up, since it's being tweaked at the maximum turning radius and with it being lowered while turning up into your driveway compressing the wheel up even further into the wheel well while at the end of your turning radius. Turned and compressed suspension causing c.v. joint binding is my theory. Try raising up the suspension an inch, inch and a half and see if it still does it.

Another thing to consider is that unless Rochester had the c.v. axles rebuilt or replaced, you're driving on axles that have mileage on them. This will amplify the problem if this is something c.v. related.

There is something that is binding up quite a bit and releasing alot of force really quickly.

It just doesn't sound axle related to me. There's no clicking or any noise of any kind. It's just this metal on metal screech. The first noise is from going over the piece of metal in the road that is overlaying something. Just like this

The 2nd noise immediately after the the bump where the street meets the sidewalk/driveway. After that there is no noise even when it's still locked.

I could try raising, but I like my ride height

Also, if you listen to the noise, you can hear it change with the change in spring compression. It has like that up and down tone to it EEEERRRRRR

Did you happen to loosen the preload collar when you adjusted them by accident jack the car up and check if there is spring movement with the strut fully extended

Yep its a metal to metal noise that everytime i hear i cringe but i notice my car does bounce a tad when it makes that noise also. Im not sure how low you are Merovi but im a little less than a finger gap on BC coils. I think it might have something to do with what Tbehr said about being low and the axle binding. Its under alot of stress as is nevermind turning and hitting a rut/bump altogether. I have messed around with the dampeners but it always does it.

I just Google'd "MR2 Carrera GT conversion", and that thing is so hideous i'm not even gonna link the photo's on the thread. I'd rather you guys go blind from excessive fapping rather than looking at that monstrosity.

There is no preload to adjust on the teins. The springs can spin freely.

Again, the ONLY time this happens is going very slowly over a bump and when the wheel is maxed turned. If I don't max turn it it doesn't make a noise.

Hope you find the problem....

I would guess CV related as well. If it happens at lock, thats obviously when the axel is at its most extreme angle and then you hit an incline which makes it worse. Or it could be your damper. Do you have boots on your dampers? Lol I have a combination balljoint/CV/steering rack issues, want to trade places? All of that needs to be replaced because I caught torn boots too late. Thats a FML worthy situation if I've ever heard of one

Merovi my top 3 guess

1. Motor Mount
2. CV axle binding
3. Coilover spring binding

whens the last time if any did you have the above replaced or checked?

I know from a few threads other members had noise and later found replacing motor mounts was the culprit. And I know from experience I had a coil spring bind that made noise but never that LOUD!

This was my thought.

Sounds like a snare drum.

The strange part, is you're not feeling anything in the steering wheel when this happens?!?!?!

I can't think of a single thing that would make this noise in that situation dependant on your ride height, that would NOT cause the steering wheel to shimmy, or at minimum, you to feel something through the wheel/car.

My FIRST impression when I heard it, it sounds like the spring is twisting up instead of just turning, then suddenly releases this twisting tension with the bump.
The only way I see this happeneing is if the mechanic messed up and the upper bearing/mount is jammed up. Or could be that the mounts went bad premature. Either way, I do wonder about the install.

Is it possible to get a picture of the coil installed? And have you checked the obvious, like making sure the lower mounts are tight, the tire/rim isn't touching the coil, the upper strut mount nut is still on and tight, the upper mount nuts still on and tight, etc.?

Merovi, as long as I been riding on coilovers and as slammed as I am, I've never heard that noise from my car. Something is installed wrong.

I can feel it in the steering wheel. I've visually checked everything and it seems fine. I'll have to get another look though. All top nuts are tight. I'll get pics on Wednesday.

Just talked pricing on getting headers in. NOPE. I'm not a DIY guy when it comes to headers on a 10 year old car either so oh well. Back to thinking about AFR tuning to get a few extra gains some day.

I can't see the video but by reading the descriptions and then on you saying that you can't adjust the load on the spring really makes me wonder if the install did go correctly.

There was a noise when I installed mine, the top nut on the pillow ball mount was loose, tightened it up and the noise went away, it only made noises over certain bumps

And yes that's hella used

My coilovers haven't even seen an oil change yet.

Do you want to do it with 3.0 timing? Or do you want to do the full ecu swap? It's actually pretty easy to swap with no cel.

The TEINS don't have preload adjustment, they also don't have pillowballs. I'm going to check out the bolts coming up soon though.

Tempting offer for install... i'm more so worried about bolts breaking off in the heads though. That's my fear.
