I just got my 2000 Maxima GLE and had it inspected. I'm really lucky that, with 160+k miles, the overall condition is quite good. The only problem is the upper strut bearings need to be changed. I'm a newbee that I know nothing about it.

Do anyone can give me a picture to let me know the difference between strut bearing and strut mount? If I want to DIY, will it be very difficult? If the problem is ignored, how serious will it get to be and how can I tell the situation?

Every reply will be appreciated because I need any suggestion from you guys. Thank you.

Another question, for a 2000 GLE with 163K miles, is it helpful if I use highmileage engine oil? What's the difference will make? Thank you.

m.xie...I would say use the high mileage oil. I have an 03 SE and I use the Mobil 1 10w30 High Mileage. But then again, my car has been burning oil and I just got it. I'm not an expert, but I think you should.

I have a question...who has a list of recalls for the 03 Maxima? I don't think the one I just bought has been taken in for any of the recalls issued, if any.

2000 i30

Not sure if 2000 i30 questions will get answered, but it's worth a try.

The car start cutting out a few days ago. The codes it threw were P0158, P0159 & P0160. I replaced the MAF and when I started it again it ran horribly for about 5 minutes (would not idle, cutting out when you pressed the gas), and then cleared up and ran fine.

I checked the codes again and got the one for Coolant Temperature Sensor (P0115). This part was replaced about 6 months ago, but I pulled the connectors from both it and the thermal transmitter. The connector on the thermal transmitter was extremely gummed up, so I cleaned it and reconnected it. I then cleared the codes.

I had no SES for about two hours, and then it came back on, although the car ran perfectly. Now four days later, it has started doing the cut out thing again. In addition, in both cases, the fans started running full bore from the moment you turned the car on, whether the AC is on or not.

I just hooked it up at Autozone, and it's now throwing all of the following.

P0115 Coolant Temperature Sensor
p0138 Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 (Circuit high voltage)
p0139 Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 (Circuit slow response)
p0140 Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 (Circuit condition)
p0158 Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 2 (Circuit high voltage)

I bought another CTS and will change it tonight, but I'm wondering whether the thermal transmitter should be changed as well.

Also, I've read different opinions on whether the ECM should be flashed after MAF is changed or whether it's enough to disconnect the battery for half an hour.

Any opinions are truly appreciated.

Is that Block PLate really worth it? Has anyone had any problems with their Max since the install?

That's up to you to answer.

No known issues. Unless you do not follow instructions, but that would be your issue, not the product.

I tried searching and found these questions asked but couldn't find a definitive answer.

1) Will a 00-01 stock head unit (non-bose) work in an 02? I may just go aftermarket but want to know if this is an option. Right now the car has a cheap pioneer head unit in it that I am not thrilled about.

2) What is required to make 00-01 se tails work on an 02? Some people said you need a new harness, others didn't.

I'm considering purchasing a 2002 Maxima that was purchased from Canada. It still has the metric guage cluster. What are my options other than just reading the small mph under the larger kph? Would I need to do a full cluster swap? Any idea on cost?

How about the climate control?
If you swap the gauge cluster you'll reset the mileage. Between that and trying to convince your local DMV that the Canadian "certificate of ownership" is the same as a "title" it's more trouble than it's worth.

As far as going to Fahrenheit on the climate control, you can swap out the circuit board with a used one from a wrecker. I could not find a C/F switch in photos of the circuit boards, and while the display as spots for it, for all we know it's hard-soldered to go one way or the other.

I appreciate the metric measures, really, but yeah, the odometer readings really seem to confuse Nissan mechanics and DMV people stateside.

Pick a used one up with your used Fahrenheit-measuring climate control and try it. The other thing to try is to look at online places like Crutchfield's and see if they group harness adapters for stereos for 00-01's differently than 02's.

To get the climate control and the stereo out, there is some guy who has videos on how to do it on YouTube.

2) What is required to make 00-01 se tails work on an 02? Some people said you need a new harness, others didn't.
There are only two bulbs in each side, one for turn signal and one for tail/brake lights, so I'd say that's unlikely.

Swapping strut bearings pretty much requires removal of the front strut. Most people replace the whole front strut mount, and think long and hard about the strut too.

Cliff's Notes:
Loosen the three bolts at the top of the strut that hold it to the car, mark the two bolts that hold the strut to the knuckle so you're close on reassembly, jack up the side of the car, remove those bolts, unhook brake lines and ABS wire from strut, and remove. I don't remember if you need to compress the spring and stuff to get the bearing out, but it's two pieces of plastic between the top plate and the lower one on top of the strut. Reassemble in reverse order. Repeat on other side.

You can do it, but you'll need a wheel alignment after. It should not be your first DIY car repair.

There are a bunch of threads on this - use search and look for "front strut mount".

Having problem with my AC fan control. Everything was working fine then last week my fan control stop working correctly. The fan control from 1-3 no longer work but 4 still work fine. So now i either have my AC off or FULL blast. Heat and AC still working fine, I think it might just be the control is broken ?
btw, i have a maxima 02 SE. Everything is stock in the car, head unit and all, so the electrical never been messed with.

I ended up passing on the car that was brought in from Canada. I found one much closer to home that I'm picking up Saturday. Thanks for the info though.

you have to heat them up so the adhesive loosens up then you can take them apart...put them on a wet towel on a cookie sheet and put it in the over for a few minutes

Nmex - yes it does I've done it to mine within the last month, only difference between what i did and some of the writeups I've found on the .org and elsewhere was i used a dry towel and i had to "substitute" something for a cookie sheet. (was moving and stuff was packed)
250 degrees, i checked on mine quite a bit just because i had never put anything like headlights in an oven before.

hey guys, this is my first post here. just wanted to start by saying i have been on here browsing even before i picked mine up last week. its an 02 with 140 kilometers. i love this car so far, especially when i heard the vq35 came in the 02 with the 6-speed and factory HID's and all the other options, it was hard to pass up

now the issue is my service engine light came on last week but i was wondering how to reset the engine light or if there were any trick ways to get the code or narrow it down without a reader (i am a honda guy and there was a way to do this, but im new to nissan)

this site has been great, ill be around alot more

There is a way to read the codes with the pedal dance, but a reader is so much easier.

i recall seeing somewhere that you could do the diagnostic screw thing on the ECU and read the lights blinking on the dash and get your code that way, but only from 95-99 and 02-03 I THINK....apparently my 2000 won't do it.

Did my 01 headlights just 2 days ago, set the oven to 225* and left them in about 12 mins....i also checked on them a lot since it was my 1st time. I painted the bottom part of the reflector while I was at it to minimize the glare from the HID's I just installed

I used a cookie sheet and wet towel as well

Thank you for your valuable advice. I will change to high mileage oil next time. Burning oil is really an alloying problem. I just got rid of my 97 Camry because of the oil problem, and only this problem.

Thanks for the reply. I bought the car this way. I think there was an aftermarket sound system installed at one point.

Are there aftermarket accessories that allow for DIN style car stereos to be installed? Where would I find one?

Thanks!

You might want to look into Crutchfield. They have accessories to go with the sound systems they sell that are car-specific. No other place comes to mind now.

Im looking to buy an 02 maxima , can anyone tell me whats a fair price to pay for one with under 150k. Im seeing a lot of ridculous prices like 7-8k with over 100k on dash. Is it me or are these people buggin. I could get an 03 for that price. Or add 2k more and just get a 6th gen. KBb is saying 5100 in good condition with over 100k. So why the hell do people want 7k for theirs?

reheat them...then hold it together in several places with pliers until it cools and dries...if you dont do it right and the headlights will get water in them and fog up

Im looking at a wrecked 2000 max auto 3liter, not too bad, only $200. I plan to use it at a local circle track where usually only 2nd gear is used. I cant find it anywhere, does anyone know how fast this 3liter auto will go in 2nd gear?

Depends on the overall diameter of the tire/wheel used. On the correct size, ~ 60 -65MPH.

now for the next issue, i know many of you know that the BOSE HU cuts out on the drivers side sometimes and the sub also seems to go out sometimes. Is there a DIY to fix this. i know its not easy but i have done more complicated **** so i dont seem worried plus my dad is an electrical hardware engineer so that helps lol

Transmission Slips 2001 maxima

2001 maxima transmission slippage when I run around town. RPMs go down, push throttle, revs up but car does not move. Check engine light came on, indicated transmission. Dealer says they check it and nothing wrong. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? change tranny oil, filters, etc? Any guidance would be appreciated.
