You should have a sticker on the underside of your hood that tells you:

and you should have (4) plugs on the front of your motor.

If yours is like mine, it's Cali, if not, Fed

Without scrolling back to see what you have done or replaced, here are the possible causes from the manual:

I have a few more questions... Is it normal for there to be a bit of vibration at idle in a VQ35 Maxima? And is the shifter (4AT) supposed to feel like you're moving it though a box of rocks? My newly purchased Maxima has 154,366 miles on it, is there anything I should look out for? Thanks.

Question :
on saturday my check engine lit up, i checked it out with my buddy's diagnostic machine.
Said I have two codes, i copy-pasted the page from check-engine-light.com and this is what i got :
P0011 "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
P0051 HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 2 Sensor 1)

We tried to erase the codes but the computer wouldn't want to.
Anybody know what this would be worth as in work-wise, like having to undo the tranny and go play with the timing chain ? And how much would this job be worth.
The car has 141xxx KM (90xxx miles). Yes i've gunned it a few times, but no power shifting, no crazy starts, no beating, very easy on her and i've never been past the red-line.
Thanks
Frank

Scroll up and read post #10003 by VQPOWER above.

Edit: Actually, I think only the 2000's came out in either one of those two versions; models afterwards were all Cali spec. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

(Luckily?) My lights have all disappeared for the time being (driven a couple of times since). But for future reference, does it matter which pin you ground against? I would assume chassis ground, since signal ground is probably just meant to be a reference for identifying high/low signals.

Any chassis ground is fine, whether it's in the harness or bolt on the body.

your expertise requested please!

Noob here, hoping you could help me out. Got a 2000 Maxima GLE a few months ago. Just recently noticed it was missing a part. On this picture . . . http://www.partswebsite.com//stores/partsimages/parts3/3799130.gif
. . . I'm missing part #13 "connector". I guess it goes between #17 "intake duct" and #12 "resonator assembly".

http://www.partswebsite.com/nissancatalog/index.php?i=1&model=1099&make=142&year=2000&sectio n=113&catid=30146&type=parts&subcatid=31138&item_c ollision=1&items=none&image=3799130&catid=30146

My questions are:
- What does the "resonator assembly" do? I guess air is supposed to go in there, but it looks like an empty tank for fluid that doesn't have an outlet.
- How difficult is it to install the "connector" myself if I buy one?
- Has damage been caused by the connector being missing?
- Is it a problem to leave it as is?

Thanks a bunch for your time, I really appreciate it!

Here is my question/problem:

My hood release on my '01 is not working. When pulled the hood will not pop up so I can access the release lever. I was going to check the fluids today and I can't get under the hood. I have tried to press down on the hood to reset it but nothing seems to be working.

Do you have any ideas?

get a good lubricant, not WD40, and spray the latch assembly working it manually. i had the same problem and fixed it with a can of superlube(teflon based aresol lubricant) i had in my garage.

fuel "filter" is mounted in the tank with the pump.

No, it's not locking; it's just a limited slip. If you're looking for a trans or for parts, it does however fall under the generic 'locking' category (as I already told you earlier, when you bumped a 6 month old thread).

Hey a friend if mines 06 nissan murano has a problem idling. It's fine when he is driving around, but when he fo instance stops at a light or stop sign then the rpms fluctuate, drop, and the engine cuts off. Since this fwd vq is the same as our maxima I figure the gurus here could help me out?

Is it possible to use HIDs on this headlamp? People are saying that the output wont be that great. Also, does anyone know what size bulbs these are?

It sounds like a vacuum leak. I would inspect all vacuum hoses for leaks or cracks.

Question about my 5th Gen Max

Whats going on? I recently purchased a 5th Gen SE Max with 150,000 on the clock. The previous owner stated that he just had the brakes replaced before I purchased it and had documentation to prove it...like that really means anything! What was performed was a pad slap. The right rear caliper is seizing up and the backing plates on the front are cutting into the front rotors. My question is how can I replace/remove those backing plates for the front? I am also planning on replacing the entire exhaust system, suspension, wheels, headlights and CD player. Will post pics as I go along...thanks for any /all help.

Hi guys,

I got a 2001 I30t from Cali with 114k mi. I've had 2 incidents that I believe are correlated. The 1st happened when sitting at idle and having the doors open, the car just shut off. No rough idle, no CEL, nothing. Started back up fine, but when let sit at idle again (about a minute later) it died again. It's been 2 months and its never peeked its head again. The 2nd time happened last night and this really freaked my wife out. The car was idling while she was brushing the snow off and out of no where, it locked itself. Maybe she bumped something on the way out or what ever, I don't know... She had her purse, phone, etc. in the car but was at a friends where she could call someone. She's scared that it'll happen again where help won't be so handy. I have a hunch (ok, I'm hoping) that the car has an old alarm system in it but no remotes and the brain is acting up. I haven't had time to peek as I just got home from work and really don't need my lady scared of her car. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the aftermarket alarm is wired to kill the ignition circuit when car is locked, and is locking itself randomly.

I sure hope so. It doesn't seem to be a common problem from what I've read. I can't find any info about anything similar to this. Thanks for the help.

Tuning

Hello I found a Apexi SAFC NEO for a good price on ebay, I was wondering how hard it is to hook up, and if It would be good to tune my 2003 6 speed maxima. Does it say the A/F ratio on it? Would I need a wideband sensor to tune? I hear our cars have a bad air fuel ratio at high rpm. Thanks for reading.

hey guys, just registered because i am looking to get into a Maxima, 5th gen specifically , it is a 2000 5 speed, but i have one question, how do you know if you have a 5th or a 5.5 gen Maxima?

i will most likely be getting this

for $4000..

i know the VQ30DE motor is a strong one , but are there things i should look out for?
i have been a Nissan guy since 1999, and i regularly post on www.SR20-forum.com and know alot about the SR20 motor, but now am looking to get into the VQ30DE

or did the 5.5 have the VQ35DE?
