how do you remove the 02 side skirts? I was going to just pull them cuz I thought it was just some tabs on the bottom. Do you have to take the front mudguard off before hand?

Custom 3" catback or a Cattman 3" if you have the money.

Headers? cat back? axle back? Need more info, and a budget.

Also, sent you a PM a while back. Shipping to you is cheap!

I am not looking for real heavy performance exhausts at the moment. A bit low on cash. I am a student Cattman is too expensive. A catback with dual tip (like OEM) would do for now. Budget is around $200-250.

Yeah ...

I just swapped the original power steering belt on my 2001. It took cirque-du-soleil style mechanics skills - it's tight in there, and the tensioner for that belt was happily rusted in place.

1. Read the FSM (the factory service manual - available for download here). Both the regular maintenance section on changing the belts, and the ps pump part.

2. Search the site for the thread with the alternator replacement pictures, just to help you get the alternator/AC belt off. When you soak the tensioner nuts, soak the ps tensioner too (it's way at the back in there) with penetrating oil.

2a. It may be easier to disconnect the power steering hose from the rack rather than the pump. Maybe.

3. jack up the car's passenger side, remove wheel, remove access cover, and put a big light on the problem. Before starting to work, make sure your tools can reach all the places you need to. Stubby tools, and those little ratcheting wrenches can be a huge, huge help. I cannot state this enough.

4. Read FSM again.

5. Get your tools, check those for fit, and then start the work.

Hint: tightening the tensioner bolt for the power steering LOOSENS the belt.

Im new to the forums and recently purchased an 00 SE 5sp with about 90k on it. I have a budget of $700 or so and was wondering what performance mods would get me the most bang for the buck? I was thinking a CAI and catback exhaust to start but any suggestions would be apprciated. Coilovers and such are going to have to wait for now because I live on a dirt road in Maine and I have bottomed out a few times with the stock ride height.

Make sure it is maintained first and foremost. Perform all possible maintenance items before modding.

Ive done plugs, sway bar endlinks and bushings, rear pads and rotors. Other then some minor surface rust in the rear wheel wells the car is mechanically sound.

Its not a matter of slowing down its just the road is that bad. There was a lowered civic that had a hole torn into his oil pan.

I'm having a problem with my car doors unlocking by themselves while driving and while the car is off. I'll lock all the doors then a few minutes later they will all unlock by itself. Funny thing is, the alarm goes off every time I open the door after it unlocked itself. I've tried keeping the windows locked but that hasn't fixed it at all. I've tried locking with key and that doesn't work either. Any suggestions on what else I can do to keep my car locked?

A point in the right direction would be appreciated.

I've found plenty of posts on how to install the 350z dead pedal. However, I can't seem to locate anything on how to install 350z gas/brake/clutch pads. Any tips/help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Clearly, your alarm is malfunctioning. Take it to whomever installed it to fix it....

Gas pedal is plug and play. Just disconnect the throttle cable, unbolt the entire pedal, and reverse procedure for the install.

Brake/clutch you just have to slip the old one off and install the new one. No info needed.

How to remove/replace ECM (ECU) on 2000 Maxima

I have a bad ECM in my 2000 Maxima and am looking at the repair options. One option involves removing the original ECU myself, sending it out to be refurbished, and then re-installing it. My mechanic has advised that this is a tough job and one that I probably don't want to get into. Obviously there is a monetary incentive for him to have this opinion, so I wanted to get some advice and instructions on removing and installing an ECM in a 2000 fed spec Maxima.

For some reason there seems to be no information on this in both the service manual and on the internet (lots of reset/reprogram, but not replace). Either it is quite trivial and no need to document, or just not that common of a job. As for my skill level, I have replaced all of the ignition coils and plugs on this car, and have also replaced the starter.

The bad ECM is not related to the (IVAC?) issue but has to do with a p1320 which has been diagnosed down to this issue by a Nissan specialist shop.

Thanks for any help/advice.

ECU is a 10 minute removal job!

It's located in between the driver and passenger footwells. A small plastic panel on each side covers it, which are held in by 2 plastic clips. The harness can be disconnected on the passenger side. A couple 10mm bolts hold the ECU in place.

VERY VERY simple.

Concerning the two 10mm bolts,I have found the easiest way for me was to remove the radio and the lower portions to view the ECU and remove those two bolts with a long extension.Cut the zipties around the masses of wires and pull the whole thing out.Concerning the p1320, I was able to resolve that issue because of a defective coil on a 4th gen.Funny thing is the car ran fine as though nothing was wrong.IACV has caused issues with ECM for other members.

Front Wheel Bearing rattle. I read somehwere on here last week about a common problem with front wheel bearings going on 5th gens. I cannot find that discussion now.

I have this light rattle up front when I go over over smooth bumps, (i.e. not pothols or patched pavement). I shake the front end but cannot find it. I am starting to think its the bearing. Anyone know where the discussion is on this. I have not yet jacked up the front to shake the wheel. I have no idea where the rattle might by. Sounds like front left.
Thanks

I would start with lifting the wheel and seeing where the movement is.

Yes, it's compatible. You may have a gap below your headlights though.

2000 Maxima

I just purchased a 2000 maxima with 20,550 miles. The car is like new driven only by a little old lady to her hair appointments. My problem is the key will not work in the glove box or the trunk but will start the car and unlock the doors. A dealer told me to spray the locks and to keep working the locks because they have a tendency to freeze up. The dealer also told me there was only one key for the car. Is this true? Any ideas. Thanks

If the key is a reddish or brownish color it's the valet key, which specifically won't unlock the glove box or the rear trunk.

I'd try one of the other two keys (which will be alike, and yours is different) that came with the car.

2000 Maxima

The ONE key I have is black with Nissan stamped on it. It has a little blue square in the bottom. How could I get a master key for my car? The dealer told me they could cut and program me a key for $150. Would it be a master if cut by a dealer?
